This is probably the best visual explanation i've seen on youtube on how to complete a root pass. Peps take note, this is how you do it.

So, Abraham, when you run out of rod you just re-establish the pool and continue with your new rod? Is it bad to freeze the rod to get comfortable and then continue again with the root? Thanks for your comments and the example root pass.

Really excellent video. Thanks. But you did not mention key hole. How important is that. Do you have to see the key hole all the time while you weld or can you assume its there and have full penetration. ??

Everyone is gonna steal my theory but the Way I figured is you need enough to cover the space between walls for reinforcement so think about that I terms of how much off it would take for that to happenn

here is one for you, ER80S-Ni1 wire, GMAW-P with 95/5 gas mixture (95Ar/5CO2). I just had to do a 3g weld test using that and it was one of the hardest tests ive taken. the ER70S-6 with 75/25 ran fine. any chance this is something that could be talked about? its a hard wire and mixture to use if you've never used it.

Hi. Why are you welded inside?
@bjen20055 жыл бұрын
@Abraham - Does anyone walk the cup in the bevel anymore? I notice on here that everyone has a tendency to free hand the torch and never walk the cup. I always done a 3/32 land and just a slightly smaller gap so I could lay the tig wire in and kind of let me thumb apply pressure to the rod so it was buried in and just walked the cup.
@abrahamjasmine5 жыл бұрын
B Jen yea people still do, but the reason we encourage free handing the root pass, is because in really tight spaces you won’t be able to walk/wiggle the cup. But yea it’s okay to walk, or wiggle the cup, at the end of the day, it all comes down to your ability and what you prefer to do.

@ifitaintrounditurnitdown17355 жыл бұрын
@@agustinhernandez6094 You can run a 1/8 gap with a 3/32 filler. As long as you can freely move that rod inside the pipe. Yes a 5/32 gap will work as long as it doesn't close up on you and if it does, grind it back open or grab some 3/32.
