Glad to see some people like you analysing phone to price to usage instead of suggesting to buying new flagship. I am a moderate user with exceptional battery life preference. I own Galaxy M51(7000mah battery) which i bought around 250-300$ price range 4yrs back and recently tab S7FE(10090mah) for ~400$. fun part is both of them on par/outlasts current apple/samsung flagships interms of battery life. I guess this mid tier feels gifted. fast enough processors so that phone won't lag, avoids luxury features that only very few people use in reallife to save the manufacturing costs

You raise some really nice points and yes absolutely these questions should be asked before buying a smartphone. But you know what, most people these days are looking for everything - i mean good camera, good screen, good battery. Like an all rounder. But there's hardly any phone that have all these. And i think it's actually very intentional from the companies who make phones. That's why we have base, pro and ultra models. Let's say if any company just makes a phone that is an all rounder then it wouldn't help them.

I'm pretty mad that I've bought this Oneplus Nord N10, back in 2021. Not because it's like a more cheaper phone. But now I've really learned and understand, much more about OS and security updates. Which I'm realizing are really the bread and butter. To seeing how many years your phone will hold up well and make it your money's worth. I had my last security update back at the end of 2023. And my phone has been pretty much struggling ever since. I'm deciding between eirehr the Oneplus 12r, A54, A35 and I've even been looking at the Moto G Power 2024. As a much more cheaper option. But the main goal is to have a phone, that will actually work well for many years to come.

Instead, for me at least. The tech became obsolete at 2 years because of the processor and hardware being old. That means, no such thing as having software updates for an old device that is going to the trash anyway. And I'm currently on a samsung j7. I think it's like a 6-year-old flagship phone and so I don't put any banking apps or Amazon or eBay or anything like that on the phone . It's also a great size phone only a 5.8 in screen with curves on both sides fits your pocket really easy it's actually really nice phone the fingerprint scanner is on the back and it works every time 100%.

I’ve had an iPhone 11 for about 4 years and the battery is terrible. I need something with a decent battery because I’m usually at work for most of the day and I alternate between listening to music & podcasts and watching KZbin. When I get home I do some design work on my Mac and so I’m pretty much locked into the Apple ecosystem. I am considering the iPhone 16 mainly cause it has a better battery and looks good, I’m not too fussed about the camera, sound, or ai. I intend to keep it for 3 - 5 years and figured it would cost me around £15 a month, which isn’t too bad considering I’ll be using it more than anything else. I agree £799 is expensive for a phone.

Been there (iPhone 11 and then 13 mini, even worst). Fortunately, I'm not totally stucked into Apple ecosistem (I still have a Windows PC), so that brought me switching to Android with the Galaxy A55. Sincerly, I'm not regretting. 1 year usage and my iPhone 13 mini did not last more than half a day under stress situation. Paying 800€ for that triggered me. I saw that more like some lacking of honesty. That stopped me to consider another iOS model like the Plus ones.

@@andre96millerthanks for your reply. I ended up going with the 16. The battery is miles better but still decreases quickly when watching KZbin. I am happy to only need to charge it once per day as opposed to multiple times per day. I admit it, I am trapped in this ecosystem 😢

Nowadays the price of the phone is rarely a reason not to buy it... the basic performance is usually pretty good even in sub 100€/120$ low china budget phones for basic tasks. But I REALLY struggle to get a new phone because they are getting way too big... I used to have a Samsung J5 which was perfect with a 5 inch screen. Now my current (already kinda too big) 5.93 inch phone is about to retire but I can't find a decent compact phone in the 4.8 inch - 5.5 inch range to replace it. Tech youtubers consider a 6.2 inch screen compact already

I think a older but good condition refurbished flagship phone is the best if you want a budget friendly option. I don't like the less through build quality and design of cheaper phones. I really enjoy an old iPhone 11 Pro with a new battery, it's a comfortable size and the screen still looks way better than many cheaper phones + has faceid. I think that it comes down to the person, I like having some premium things around, so I think it's ok to buy a expensive phone if I want to. Phones are so good nowadays it's not that bad of an idea to even buy a brand new flagship, since it will last for 5+ years for sure as long as you don't break it and swap the battery if needed.

After watching this video, I reflected on why I am currently using my iPhone 15…. I switched from a Samsung Galaxy Android phone to an iPhone because of the Apple ecosystem, Apple Family sharing for iCloud, music etc, and for the screen time features that aren’t available on Android. iPhones are more secure because of the regular software updates….
