I see a lot of people asking about CPU's, specifically about upgrading from an i5 to an i7 (or ryzen5 to a ryzen7) so I wanna give some tips. An i7+ CPU is NOT imperative to gaming an i5 is plenty if you're on a gaming budget. An i7 is really only necessary if you are in need of something that needs to run severe multi-tasking (streaming while gaming is a great example) or powerful rendering software or video editing software. The i7 is a good gaming chip but it is really only necessarily NEEDED as a productivity CPU and Im not saying that you shouldnt buy an i7 if you have the money, an i7 will most likely pull you just a few more frames in games but nothing very substantial. If you're on a budget, grabbing an i5 CPU is PERFECTLY FINE as it is well able to run games. If you want more performance, throw as much money as you can at a GPU and make sure not to cut corners on RAM, RAM is VERY important when a large portion of heavy set maps is needed to be rendered at a single time.

So is it a smart decision, as someone who doesn’t own any computer at all, to go to the website advertised in the beginning of the video to buy a complete pre-built pc that’s easily customizable? I want to get back into pc gaming but am staggered by the cost to run triple A games in high (not max) settings. What is a logical price to pay for the most easily upgradable? Looking to pay X amount of dollars in order to run games like black desert for the next year or so than I would invest in upgrading.
@Jerome-iwnl6 жыл бұрын
From my experience, you upgrade your GPU more often than your CPU, which means you'd be better served investing in a good CPU (6core 12 threads or higher) and a gtx 60 series and later upgrade it to an 80 series. If you dont plan on upgrading anything, then getting a better GPU (1070+) and a worse CPU (4c8t) will yield better results in the short term.

This is a story about a long term "future proofed" system seven years later. Seven years ago I purchased an I7 2600k, 8 Gigs ddr3, and a GTX 960TI, over the years I upgraded RAM to 32 Gigs, Graphics to GTX 1060 and called it a day. The pc games i like, ran fine on 1 or 2 cores 7 years ago, but became more sophisticated over time. Today many games utilize up to 6 threads, and after 5 years the i7 is still keeping up as it provided up to 8 threads. Today a quad core - non SMT or lower, is at a disadvantage. My I7 is still effective, though now overclocked to 4 Ghz. The time has come. The platform is outdated, the hardware is 7 years old, and it's just time to move on. The i7 turned out to be a great investment. Buy a good CPU in a new build to lay the foundation of the system. Expect to upgrade the GPU and Ram as time goes on. If this trend holds true, my new Threadripper 2920 12 core should carry me into the nex 6 years or so. It appears that 5 to 5.5 GHZ on modern processors may be the limit for silicon. I'm not counting on Ryzen 3000 to blow the doors off. Rather, Increasing core count and multi-threaded games seem to be the future. Hopefully, I'm on the right track because my new TR 2920, 16Gig, RTX 2060 CyberPower PC is arriving on Thursday :-)

A quad core i5 and i7 would perform much better in games - the only times I've had CPU issues with an i5 is with SLI. Overclocking the CPU also helps
@Jerome-iwnl6 жыл бұрын
PC Centric well, if you're anything like me, then you'd have chrome in the background while playing games. I found that this made my i5 2500k bottleneck my 970 (i get stutters and high cpu usage). So i ended up upgrading to an i7 3770k, and that pretty much did it for me until now. If i bought the 2600k in the first place, I would've had better performance, and it would have lasted me longer without an upgrade. PS. The 2500k was only mildly overclocked, since i was 16 and I didnt know what i was doing, and the 3770k wasnt overclocked at all. I feel the 8 threads are so useful for multitasking.

@Jerome-iwnl6 жыл бұрын
Jack Young i dont get the argument. Im going off my experience historically. Sure i5s are 50% faster, but arent games more demanding as well? Aren't they actually more cpu intensive? I mean, back then, the 2500k wasn't bottlenecked at all, but now, the 8600k is being bottlenecked in games that are heavily multithreaded. Also, graphics cards have evolved dramatically since then, so much so that gpus are actually more likely to bottleneck cpus now than ever before (that i remember)

$1000 is about right if you want all new modern parts. Especially if need to include a monitor. You can certainly build a new pc in the $500 to $600 range but it won’t game any better than a $1000 pc from 5 years ago. At that point consider buying a used pc add an overkill gpu will give you the most fps per $$ spent. Looking for deals will help trim cost s bit.. tech deals just put together a beast of a system for $900 because he found an R7 on sale. But even that just had a mid range gpu 1060 6gb.

Then I go one step down from there and imo just having the cpu water cooled with the latest i7 8700k coupled with a 1080 will definitely hit the sweet spot for 1440p gaming plus provide additional resources for oc'ing the cpu thanks to the water cooling.
@bruhmoment22626 жыл бұрын
Air cooling (in most cases) gives around the same cooling as water for around half the price if you get a good cooler. I'd recommend the Noctua NH-D15 for $50 or if you can't find it for that price i'd go for the Cryorig H7 for $30~

I mainly play my games in 4k since I play things like Fallout 4,FF15, Farcry 5, Agony, and Ark. None of which demand too much fps to be playable so I went with the 1080ti and 7700k last year and it doesnt disappoint. Long story short I prioritized Performance and Visual with buying a cheaper but not trash psu, storage, and motherboard. Now of those titles after overclocking both i only lose fps occassionally in FF15 which it will dip to 45-50 fps sometimes. With that being said I think I will keep this setup for a few years until I have to start lowering settings to gain fps back to my target 60.

That's obvious, but those are the numbers for a solo player. And I never understood the PC builds that started with "take an i7 xxxx K". And now comes my but. In modern games often happens more- The game is recorded or streamed (or both) and there is a constant communication with the other players. Will the numbers fit then?

Man I wait every week for you'r videos as they are very well set out. I got the maximus x apex and gskill ram so decided not to over do it on rgb fans as the board and ram are more than enough for the white define r6 so I went for the nuctua industrial 3000rpm 140s for pure cooling. What I have done tho is put swarovski crystals inside the case to give that extra little wow look.

My almost 4 year-old PC starts to grow old... GTX970 Strix + i5 4690K. I'm waiting for Zen 2 (Ryzen 3) to grab a 3700X or 3600X and probably a NVidia RTX2070.

what would u recommend for a gaming desktop for Flight Simulator X Deluxe Edition? 🙏🏽
@mjz1874 жыл бұрын
You should be fine with a 1080ti and anything over Ryzen 3k. Also check out the games recommend pc specs for the best experience :) Hope I wasn't too late

Flight Simulator on fhd 120 fps you have to buy I5 9400F 2.9ghz , 16gb Ram , Rtx 2070 Super , ssd 480gb , and msi b450 Gaming

+PC Centric just watched your old gsync video and i got a question! I got an fairly new amd system and a good 144hz freesync monitor.. the only thing that needs to be exchanged is the graphics card. I would spend the money and get a 1080ti cuz it dominates all the other graphics cards in that prizerange, but I'm a bit worried that i lose freesync. Since my current graphics card only delivers like 60-90 fps on low graphics in most games wouldnt the 1080ti deliver a smoother experience anyway (with way more fps)? Also you can cap fps in most games so if i set it to 144 (matching the monitor) a 1080ti should deliver them anyway which would make freesync/gsync irrelevant right?
@Jorozzzzz6 жыл бұрын
Dont worry about losing freesync cuz with 1080ti + good CPU you can max the FPS cap on most games and if you see screen tear just enable vsync.
@bruhmoment22626 жыл бұрын
An RX 580 8GB will be perfectly fine for 1440p and right now it's $250 and as a bonus you get to keep your freesync

I've always said that your GPU should be half of your budget and then fill in the rest. For gaming GPU will always be the deciding factor when it comes to performance

What processor is best with 1050 to oc?
@bruhmoment22626 жыл бұрын
I'd go for the Ryzen 3 2200g for $100 and wait for AM4 B450 to release later this year, and while you're waiting, I'd recommend overclocking your current CPU if it supports it.
