Having worked in hotels for years I highly recommend tipping housekeeping daily. Housekeeping does not pool tips and the attendant changes almost daily for a room. So if you wait til the end you’ve stiffed several housekeepers.

Good common sense advice. I usually stay at Caesars Palace and find the service very good there, so I have no problem taking care of all the people you mentioned. They remember good tippers too which can help.

I agree with tipping people for different services, but especially in Las Vegas, the cost of food and drinks is very high. Can't these greedy companies pay more decent wages?

It comes down to culture. Restaurants have operated this way in every part of the United States for 150 years. Companies have come to rely on this system, and changing the system wouldn’t reduce the cost to the consumer it would merely change they pay. Businesses are not going to internalize the cost, they’ll merely raise their prices to make up for the increased labor cost.

They absolutely could. Casinos in LV made huge profits over COVID and afterwards. And they had the nerve to try and make more money with parking fees and worse gambling odds. The channel is right to say the casinos would use the excuse of having to pay real living wages to raise prices, but it would be just that - an excuse. That’s part of the reason strikes in LV have been so successful: workers get so little, the casino takes your money and expects you to tip instead. Not only that, the IRS expects these workers to make certain tips, so when you don’t tip, you’re literally taking money out of the workers’ pockets, not just “not giving.”

I’ve been around the world and seen countries where tipping is excessive, and countries were tipping, is frowned upon. I’ve learned from my experience that tipping often leads to an entitlement attitude. I love countries like Japan, and New Zealand were tipping is frowned upon . My first trip to Japan, I left a tip because of the quality of service and food and hospitality. The shopkeeper was an old lady who chased me down to blocks to give me back my tip and refused to take it. I wanted her to have it, but she would not take it. I learned that there is a certain honor and pride in the service that is provided.

Well done! We always tip housekeeping staff very generously and do it daily! Uber drivers also receive a nice tip when friendly and NOT driving like they are preparing for the upcoming Formula One event. There is only one thing that determines if restaurant servers will receive a generous tip from me... that is in how they treat your drinks, refills, etc. They cannot control how the food will taste or how it is prepared, but being attentive to your drinks is absolutely crucial. We literally just returned today from a weekend Vegas trip. The goat cheese appetizer has been removed from the menu at Mon Ami Gabi. However, we asked the server if he could still have one made for us. He made it happen and brought one out. It was simple but yet, a highlight of our trip. He received a $40 tip on a $60 bill. Also... Karma is huge for me. When I am tipping generously in Vegas, I seem to have better luck on the machines. Go figure! lol Please keep these videos coming!

Tipping in LV is different when having the conversation about overtipping… because LV is service heavy and many people are doing very traditional jobs that tipping is normalized. But flipping an iPad for a making an overpriced coffee at Starbucks doesn't require tipping. It is amusing to me that fast food returns don't do this, yet Starbucks does and is literally a fast food restaurant.

Here is my philosophy on tipping and I'm not changing it regardless of location. 1. I do NOT tip retail employees for doing the job that they are paid to do. PERIOD. 2. I do tip service employees, based on the quality of service they provide. PERIOD. 3. If you don't get a tip from me, you are either working under Rule 1, or you need to rethink whether or not your service level merited a tip. Because it is not a given.

Agreed. Tipping universally creates an entitlement mentality. You get a paycheck for doing your job. You should get a tip if you provide service above and beyond. Good customer service used to be a part of just good business practices .

Myself and 2 friends were on the slot floor at the TI, and we were heavy handed with the tips for cocktail waitress because it was 1 am and she was very fun. A guy sat down next to us, got a drink, and didn't tip. She stared at him, then walked off. We never saw her again. He ruined it for the three of us

I use lyft when available or taxi when not. I like to tip them using a red chip from which ever casino I'm exiting. Same with house keeping. be sure to write a note: Housekeeping for the tip. Definately tip daily.

We don’t place a lot of sports bets, but when we do we generally use the casino’s mobile app or one of the kiosks so we really have to frame of reference here. But we will say, the concept of tipping the clerk when making a bet seems unnecessary. MAYBE when cashing in a sizable winning ticket, but not while simply placing a bet. Thanks for watching!

Many restaurants operate on a tip pool. The person at the counter takes the order for every guest in the restaurant. The guests pick a table; their drinks and food are served to them. All tables are set and bussed by the workers. In ALL restaurants it's best to tip using a card. Some employees and managers will steal from the workers by pocketing cash left on tables or the bcash tip pool. If a manager steals from tips on cards it's easy to prove and prosecute. I worked at a place where a manager stole thousands from the cash tip pool left by one famous customer... she was fired but we did not get paid any of that money. Some of the nicest restaurants are cash free.

I tip maids on a daily. You do not know if the same person will be cleaning the room your entire stay so tip daily. My issue is we tip BEFORE the room is cleaned and stocked and shotty services can lead to the following housekeeper getting shorted. If we go on holidays we tip extra to seriously thank them for coming to serve us.

We don't place a lot of sports bets, and when we do it's usually through the Bet MGM app. That said, no, the only time I ever won a substantial sum on a sports bet and cashed it in in-person I did not tip. Percentage tipping on servers gets ridiculous when for example your at Gordon Ramseys steak and having Japanese Wagu for $49 an oz and your bill is $400+ the expected tip is $80. Considering waiters have multiple tables turning over in less than an hour, they often will be earning more than those they serve do....

One that had me this last trip. Got a cabana at mandalay bay. You pay twice essential. $400 for the cabana...they also restock the fridge with waters and sodas. So how much do you tip them? You also have the waiters/waitresses who bring drink/food. Thats easier. That was like $150, so tipped like $35. (About 20%)...but the cabana 10% is $40. They just pointed to the cabana and filled waters once. Also got one at the palms (which has a minimum spend) and they automatically add 18%...so just added a little. Question is...whats the norm for the cabana/water people. Looked on line and people are everywhere from $5 to 20% (which would be $80). I split the difference and did $40. Still felt like the waiters did more for less.

Tipping the cabana host does seem ridiculous. I don’t think we ever have. Nor do we tip on the cost of the rental. The server is the only one actually helping you out so that’s where the tip should go and only on the food and beverage ordered.

As an English guy, tipping is an alien concept - here it's rare to tip full stop so going to Vegas really is a step into the unknown when it comes to tipping. I'm fine with tipping waitresses and taxi drivers but I find it really odd how you are supposed to tip bar tenders now 2$ on already expensive drinks, I even had a bar waitress in Caesars tell me that it's $2 minimum and $5 per drink if you are happy which is mind blowing given how expensive drinks are now. Also why are tips expected in buffets? I mean this feels totally bizarre given by nature it's help yourself! Equally I can't get my head around why tips are expected even more now given how expensive Vegas has become now over the last decade when it was affordable and plenty of good deals offered at most hotels and free drinks in the casinos were common place. Anyway my rule is when tipping I always add 20% to the bill. P.s watch out for the places that charge a 20% service charge, many expect an additional tip on top of that!

Resort fees aren't really for anything specific, they're merely another revenue stream for the hotel. They definitely don't get filtered down to the housekeepers. A housekeeping tip is merely a gesture of gratitude toward an employee that is almost certainly not earning a living wage. The roots of the tipping culture in America are kind of murky and it definitely isn't a good system, but it's what we've got and changing it is almost impossible at this point. Great question. Depends on the pickup wait time (did your flight get delayed and they sat a long time), service (did you have to handle your bags at all) and then distance from the airport (NYNY or Circa?), how was the experience (friendly? Offer of water?) How did they handle the arrival and the unload and handoff to your host or doorman? Did they call in advance to make sure you were met at arrival? When I'm going downtown it's anywhere from $60 to a C-note depending on all that.

For someone living in Europe, Uk to be more precise this sounds so crazy . The companies should paid their employees fairly, not the clients. I do not tip and I should not feel bad because I don't want to overspend my hard working money when a company refuses to pay their employees. Especially in Vegas where the profits are astronomical. I can't believe that after all these years the tipping culture still going strong. If all these people you mention in the video will stop working and strike for just few days, it will cost the companies a fortune and they will start paying better. Your point is well taken, but it is a firmly entrenched culture that isn't going to change overnight, if ever. Failing to tip in this culture doesn't hurt the employer one bit, and nothing short of a complete and total boycott would ever change that. Well , the power of people can change things, that's how history was written. And it does hurts me and my pocket, it's not my responsibility to pay for other peoples wages. It means that for every trip to America I will need to put aside few hundreds of $ (and basically burn them). I will literally be giving those money away. The issue is that it's a vicious circle of people not doing the right thing or anything about it, like you said in your comment. People will tip, server, bartender, bellhop, etc will get their money and companies will never pay their employees. So that's where the issue is. Anyhow ... we can debate this issue forever 😁😂. @@damtrip I'm not about to defend the system, but right off the top they absolutely do not have the same entry requirements and they do not pay anywhere near the same wage. For starters the fast food employee is making $12 to $15 an hour, while the restaurant server is making more like $2 an hour. The tips ARE their wage. It doesn't make any difference whether or not you like the system or find it equitable. If life was about how HARD a person worked then a garbage man would earn more than a CEO. The system may not be a good one, but it has been entrenched in this culture for more than 150 years. As it stands, if you come to the United States and don't tip your restaurant server, YOU have screwed them. Just because you don't agree with a culture doesn't mean you just ignore it and do your own thing...

It is against both house rules and licensing regulations for a non vendor type host to receive ANY tip from a customer. However, casino employers and department heads generally look the other way when hosts receive things like chocolates, ties, a bottle of wine (given that they are of the inexpensive variety and they can be "shared" amongst the staff). Now for the unofficial what really goes on lesson. High end customers understand and learn the intricacies of giving the "hundred dollar(s) handshake" to their host. (descretly - think not on camera - NEVER on the gaming floor) They give fine ties, (think Feragamo) fine wines (think Crystal) etc all of which can be sent to their homes or given over dinner when they visit or accompany them. Especially at Christmas time. Heck, ordering that extra comped bottle and simply taking it out the door and then handing it over to your host after dinner is so routinely done that the matrei-d' (don't forget to tip them) will have a bag ready for you. Smaller players can and do take care of their hosts - a twenty dollar handshake is just as appreciated. Even the effort of making an attempt to take care of them is appreciated. Many professionals will turn it down and explain that it is not necessary (and they should say that). But they now understand what you wish to do. Whatever you do, NEVER jeopardize their job by doing something openly or on camera....or in front of their boss!

I'm sorry but I refuse to tip table dealers. When you lose, the dealers have no problem taking your last dollar. But when you win, a tip is now expected. Sorry, ain't gonna happen.

25% across the board, 10 bucks a day for room maid...Throw the drink girls at lease a 5 dollar chip PER drink AGREED Valet 5 bucks each drop off.. WE have success with a $ 50 tip at the front desk,, DEALERS after a decent win throw them a few nickels,, OR as you're playing make bets for them NEAR your numbers. You'd be amazed how close they can DROP the ball really close to your number
