@sajathmenon4 жыл бұрын
I actually saw that Smartphone marketing hype video first and came here to view this one..both these videos are eye-opening videos especially for people in India. You are one of the oldest KZbin reviewer and I remember in 2011 you reviewed Samsung S plus which you had just purchased for personal use. You replied to me at that time when I commented that I had bought the phone for 20k. You asked me from where I had bought it..i said on ebay but you bought it for 24k or something i guess. My salary was around 15k at that time and I realized I made a mistake by purchasing such a costly phone even though I liked it very much and was excited about it but I made up for my mistake by using it for nearly 3-1/2 years he he..and I only needed to change it because of RAM issue (it had only 512 MB RAM as you know). Nowadays my budget is under 20k even though my salary has increased to 40k and I make it a point to use at least 2 to 3 years. I will never make the same mistake of purchasing a phone which is more than my monthly salary. Guys, remember, it's not worth it. We should stop this Indian mentality just to show-off our phones. A good all-rounder phone in the range of 10k to 20k is more than enough for your daily needs.
@kirann58914 жыл бұрын
@@sajathmenon what you realised I recently acted the same way. I bought Redmi Note 8 6gb/128gb. I'm damn happy for its purpose ie for email,. whatsapp, calls, memory, occasional photography. I could have bought easily 50-60k phone but settled with 13k phone even though my salary is 5x of what I bought.
@rohitvarma72644 жыл бұрын
Im thinking to buy phone which is around 3times my salary, although I use a phone for over 2 years, I only buy new one when they are no more in good working condition. i was in a dilemma whether to invest that much for a phone through emi or to buy a mid range and save the money for other aspects. After watching the two videos the marketing hype and this one, now i came to a clarity that not to buy phones if you don't have enough money in hand...Thankyou sir for your valuable videos..

Someone had to say this! I'm very glad it came from someone like you. I'd say if someone has 60k to spend on phone, spend 20k on the phone and rest on a vacation with your family. Ten years down the lane, you wouldn't remember which phone you had, but you would definitely remember the vacation you took. Few other points I want to highlight: 1. People should spend more on the experience rather than the product. 2. US made and imported products attract a lot of taxes. All Apple devices cost less in US than here. Also, the earning power here is significantly lower than US. Young or old, rich or poor, buy a mid spec phone. Use it thoroughly until you receive at least three service updates and four security updates. And when the phone manufacturers declare they'll not be able to support your device, only then buy the latest mid spec phone. Tech reviewers must do some CSR activities like this and inform the audience that holding on to your 2 year old phone is sexy too and not just buying phones frequently.
@rajamishra57753 жыл бұрын

And just to put what he said into context for the Indian audience: An average software engineer in the US earns about 4000 dollars a month (2k fortnightly for 1-4 years of experience). The most expensive iPhone is still less than half a month’s salary. To compete, Indian engineers pay 3 to 4 times their monthly income for the same phone. (30k a month * 3 for a phone worth ~90k) Honestly, get phones that are close to half your monthly salary and use them for 2+ years. My 2 cents. Awesome video man! Much appreciated!

Very good advice, sir. Bought my OnePlus 5T in full for 30K when it came out in 2017, and still rocking it to this day for almost 4 years now, I might even use it for another 2 years or so. I don't see any reason to go out and purchase phones on EMI to upgrade to the latest and greatest unless the current phone I'm using is completely unusable or broken to the point it would cost more to repair it than getting a new one. It's best to save a sufficient amount of money to buy the one you can afford at full price.

The most reasonable and practical video out of all the tech-reviewers on the Internet. No one talks about the value of money which is so counter-intuitive in such a tough economic condition in the Country. No sense showing off if you have to be in debt(EMI) to have the product. The brands you are loyal to, are in no way loyal to you.

Mitch don't agree, get a last gen iPhone from US and use it for 3-5 years and sell it for a good price repeat the process. These iPhones are any day better put and outlive their android counter parts. But you need to be smart enuf to find a good deal and a frnd in US who is willing to buy and carry it 😉
