Great price breakdown and what we should all be charging. I agree 💯 on the quality higher prices compared to the photo mills. You explained it perfectly and I hope more photographers start charging their worth. Thanks for all the tips, you’ve helped expand my skills over the years!!!

Thank you, Nathan, for a terrifically informative video. I prefer the 20% client base myself. I see how, just starting out, many will go for the low-hanging fruit as it were, but that's the road leading to the bottom. Thanks again for yet another excellent addition to your library of videos. I'll be subscribing to some of your online courses soon.

Well reported Nathan. Always appreciate your input on the RE photog world. Been doing this now for 10 yrs and recently increased my prices after over 3 yrs since my last increase. Market is slower since interest rates increased everywhere ~ still anticipating it will pickup soon. Looking forward to your next video

Terrific video - fascinating and thought-provoking! Thanks, Nathan. I'm scratching my head wondering - with such a significant disparity between the respective required incomes and the median household incomes, what income figures are being entered on their mortgage applications??!

Thank you! I thought so as well. I think at best there's a lower bar for higher-priced regions, but at worst it could be predatory lending. It's quite obvious here in California where not only are new home buyers scraping to get something they barely can afford, but insurance rates have doubled and in some cases tripled in the past year, making the total impound higher. I never like to spur conspiracies, but it does smell like a bubble market. Bursting bubbles have historically been a boon for real estate vendors like photographers as more houses rush onto the market with sellers underbidding each other to get their properties to sell at above-water debt-prices. It keeps us RE photogs busy, while sellers take the hit. I'm keeping a close watch on this and as it develops I'll for sure have more videos on this subject.

Hi Nathan, thank you for doing all the research to produce a great video!! Do you have the stats for Hawaii by any chance?

Thanks! I don't, but you could get fairly close from the California markets since we're priced somewhat similar.

The photo mills make it especially difficult for me as a beginner. They charge locally only $130 Canadian for 25-45 photos close to Vancouver one of the most expensive cities in North America. Despite using flash and a pretty difficult editing system workflow people won't take a chance with me and go for the dirt cheap crappy HDR guys consistently.

I know it may seem difficult, that's the same problem we all face, but it's something you can overcome. The same was the case when I started out, but it's only a temporary problem if you address it correctly. As I mentioned in this video and others, 80% of realtors won't make it past two years in business and will spend less, spiraling down with their lack of budget being partly to blame. Instead, you need to (1) Target clients specifically on those who have been in business for more than two years, the 20%, but also (2) Prove you are better than the photomills, not just in quality but customer service, turnaround, and more, and that won't come with an email blast or cold calling so... (3) Work with one or two agents within your 6-degrees of separation that can help you grow, getting you MLS exposure. As a beginner, you can't expect to broadly market yourself and hope to immediately attract realtors who will use you; they won't know why they should. You have to prove yourself first. I discuss these things in great detail in my book on business techniques for REP, here's a link for Canada if you'd like to check that out: www.amazon.ca/dp/B07FB47JRT

Hey Nathan, unrelated to your video but I am having some issues with the Flambient Process. When combining my ambient shot with my flash shot, using 50% opacity and auto-aligning layers, I find my image to still be a bit blurry, not as crisp as either shot seems before blending together. I am not sure what I am doing wrong - perhaps a bunch of things. I'm using a tripod and a flash trigger so I'm not physically touching the camera... Would love a video on troubleshooting for this process! Thank you very much for your videos. - Whitney
