Here in Brazil we don't have to tip, only if you really want, everything is so expensive to tip all the time. Commonly in restaurants we used to pay 10% of tip, but isn't an obligation. Travelling to USA is so expensive to pay tips I know it's cultural but for me is a embarrassing situation.

It is so complicated. I really prefer when the service is included. And sometimes add a tip when it is a student. But I admit it is a good way to communicate his (un)satisfaction.

I am dutch, and i don’t tip sorry, i work hard for my money, i can’t tip everyone 15-20%. i’m not waisting my money. I pay the price, that’s it. but i do round the amount. so for example if it’s 12.60$ , i will give 13$. Here in holland people don’t tip and if they tip it’s because they are really happy, probably max 2€ not more

In France they add the " service " in the prices of the dishes or the drinks in bars and restaurants because people stop tipping and because of the minimum wage wich is high compared to USA (and I think minimum wage is recent in America). And I have never heard of other situations where it is good to tip in France (I think at the hotel but I never had the occasion and I don't know a lot of people who go to the hotel...).

There is different tipping culture in Russia. It's expected to tip 5%-15% at a restaurant. If you are unsatisfied, you don't have to tip so it's not mandatory like in the US. It's not necessary to tip at a bar. It's OK to tip a taxi driver if a ride is good and long enough. It's also an often thing to tip a hairdresser but I wouldn't say everyone does it all the time.

This is insane. I went to the USA once and I left feeling like I should have tipped in some situations. This time I wanted to search not just how much to tip and when, but also how, because I felt a little awkward sometimes, you know? It's like "here's a buck" *pat on the head* "go buy a nice lollipop". It's really weird always having to pull your wallet for the "smallest" things that are part of someone's job. It's obviously a cultural thing and I'm not gonna discuss it, but it does feel weird. Should I be discreet when handing money? Should I be like "here you go" *handshake*? What if I forget to tip? What about fast food restaurants like McDonalds?
@viniciuscavalcanterj6 жыл бұрын
When I went to US, I wasn't noticed about the tips. So I gave just one dollar on the bed every morning in the hotel. Now I can imagine the reception of the room maid.

Hi Christina! In 2011 I went to NY with some acquaintances and staying at hotel, one of my acquaintance gave to the porter tip of $15 for bringing our baggages, but this one demanded $20. A question: when you go to a shop, you have to tip the cashier or the shop assistant too if this latter helps you?

I don't want to visit USA already. I'm afraid to get confused now by all of these rules of tipping. In Ukraine we don't need to pay everywhere for everything. We can leave the tip at a restaurant if we want, but it's not necessary. Unusually people tip at a restaurant, but if they don't want to do it they shoudn't explain their act.

I think that a honest situation is to do your job properly and honestly. If you get a wage for your job, do it well without any tips, or say the customer before serving the full price for your service. If your wage is so low, just say good bye to your boss or ask him to raise your wage. It will be honest.
