I owned an 06’ Tacoma that I went through all the frame replacement thing. That cost Toyota more than the truck was worth at the time. They didn’t change all those frames out of the goodness of their hearts. They did it before someone got killed in an accident and got sued. Exactly the same thing is happening here too. Btw , currently 2019 Tundra… long live the V8, it runs perfectly, I’m keeping it forever! 😊

I'm one of those who had their faith restored in Toyota by this recall solution. You have to remember that the rumored fix for a long time was a short block when everyone was very skeptical. Toyota has a reputation for reliability and this is going to cost them A LOT of money to make this right but they showed they're willing to do so. Time will tell if they need to expand that or not. Meanwhile, I grew up as a GM guy. They still have issues with their cylinder deactivation after having it for over 15 years now. I don't know a single GM that has reached 10 years old and doesn't have the GM Christmas tree on the dash (i.e. sensor lights).

I work with a guy with a 2015 Silverado 1500 that has 275k miles on it. AFM never disabled even. Guys try to compare GM's bad lifters to Toyota's bearing design failure, but I don't see the parallel. A collapsed lifter doesn't destroy the engine if the owner stops driving the vehicle when the lifter fails. Flawed main bearings such as the one affecting the V35A does destroy the engine. And Toyota's response was often to interrogate the owner as though they caused the failure despite likely knowing they had a lot of warranty claims for engines with main bearing failure. And instead of giving customers a new factory fresh crate engine, they insisted on short block replacement and having some random guy at the dealer rebuild it, reusing potentially contaminated components along the way. Pressure was likely on Toyota considering GM announced earlier this year they were going to replace multiple years of 6.2 V8's due to oversized lifter bore problems.

Yeah thats what we get for watching fear mongering YT channels that make money per view. Having stuff that stirs controversy makes them money. I knew Toyota would make it right. Though not perfect, they seem to have the best track record for customer satisfaction. Not only because they make the best vehicles but also because they dont do half assed recalls

@@hochhaul I didn't say that the issues were directly comparable, but merely an example of major issues with each and how they choose to address it. And no, they didn't "insist on a short block." That was the rumored fix when they said that a fix would come by Q4. The actual fix is engine replacement which is the best option. For the record, you not having any issues (depending on your definition) doesn't mean they aren't still common issues. Even manufacturers like GM get it right every now and again.

That has been how Tundras with fixed main bearings have been fixed for three model years now. That has been the warranty process. They did the whole this without issues, I now own a 2023 (supposedly not within the recall) I have faith that Toyota shall back and resolve it as needed. I have seen too many other manufacturers ignore or walk away from these matters. Toyota has gone head on to a solution. Why would we this be a bad thing? Tim, I did quite a bit of research before buying my 2022 Tundra 1794 in July 2022. First off so far so good. No engine issues. Just some QC interior issues and all but one has been fixed. I knew going into this purchase that a new generation vehicle was likely to have issues but based on my past 4 Toyota purchases over the years that Toyota would make it right. While no one expects to potentially have such a disastrous engine issue but as I said I believed Toyota would not just fix it but make it “right”. Now I am not naïve. I realize that the right thing may just happen to align with a legal CYA. There are numerous serious issues with Ford, GM, and Dodge/Ram/Jeep, that were never properly dealt with and certainly did not have customer satisfaction in mind. My personal experience with these three was with Jeep and GM. If I had a complaint of Toyota it’s that they should have done the 3rd gen sooner and kept the 5.7L along side the TTv6 similar to what Ford did. This would have given them time to improve the TTv6 while giving the NA v8 diehards something to help them sleep at night, then eventually drop the v8 when the TTv6 had matured. Much like the Ford EcoBoost v6s.

It's not really a bold move. Other auto manufacturers do this kind of thing when major defects are found, in this case the main bearings Toyota used are failing due to the load (the debris narrative was debunked by the Car Care Nut). For instance, GM is replacing all 2024 Duramax 6.6L engines under warranty because a component in the piston oil squirters was defective and could reduce engine longevity. Those engines are extremely expensive to replace and it didn't take nearly 3 years to announce it. Except Toyota was often denying replacement frames. Dealers were told that if the frame had holes 10mm or larger, replace the frame. But if the rot holes were smaller than 10mm, Toyota stated that the dealer was to hide the rust rot with a cheap undercoating and give the truck back to the customer, who was then required to take the truck in annually in order to maintain warranty coverage for the frame. They were also denying replacement frames for years for owners that didn't live in "cold weather states". There was a reason why Toyota lost a $3.6 billion dollar class action lawsuit. One of the owners represented bought a certified pre-owned Tacoma down south. The truck was less than 5 years old when the engines mounts broke off the frame due to severe rust rot. Toyota denied him a replacement frame because the truck wasn't in a cold weather state. Many such stories came out of that lawsuit.

@@hochhaulI don't think it was really debunked by the car care nut. He basically questioned whether or not the debris caused it. He raised a question, there was no debunking. He also said the debris getting into a tight tolerance area could cause oil flow restriction and the bearings 1 and 4 were the weakest links. Hence the change to part numbers and manufacturing process.

Toyota is a publicly traded company so asking them what this will cost is a perfectly acceptable question. I have listened to dozens of quarterly earnings calls and companies regularly will report on these types of costs. They usually report an estimated range. I have never listened to a Toyota call, but I will try to catch the next one. Hopefully one of the big shareholder representatives asks the question on what this recall remedy is expected to cost.

You’ve seen nightmare stories from ALL OF THEM whether it’s transmission, engine issues so many quality control issues, that the big3 just ignore and pretend nothing is happening and they turn a blind eye to, look at the cam phasers issue for example on the eco boost, they’re on their 4th fucking iteration! The GM dealer here is a pain in my ass to work with and screwed up multiple repairs and services that they then denied. Both trucks on top of the original price cost me around 25k in repairs around 100k miles. I was a die hard GM fan for 20 years but after 06 they went to absolute shit. You couldnt pay me to drive a chevy at this point. I cant speak to the longevity of the tundra personally but my dad put 225 on one before trading it in on another that now has 160k.
