I've lived in three campers and never used the tanks. I had a 5 gallon bucket with a lid. If I were you I would capture that cold water in the shower in something like a tea kettle or pitcher and use that for the pets or teeth brushing and then reuse that water for flushing the toilet.😎

Eleven days is pretty amazing, especially with taking a bunch of showers in among it all. Is this something you've learned to do over time to naturally conserve water since you've been living in that van for almost 2 years, or did you have the presence off mind to be this economic with your water consumption from the beginning? BTW, I think this is a great video, because it gets at the important bits of info, in water use, while still making it entertaining and unique and distinct from other RVers and vanlifers who've made vids where they just talk about their water consumption. Lastly, I would like to see a vid about the day to day pet maintenance. How often Rocky needs to go out, how much water and food you give him, what he does while you're out working, and those sorts of things. Likewise, what Archer does when you're out, how often you clean his box or he goes out, how much water and food he takes, too.
@dogcatmanvan4 жыл бұрын
Water consumption is something I'm slowly getting better at and wasn't too aware of until I started living in a van where it wasn't abundant. I could probably document everything that goes into having a dog and a cat in a van one of these days!

Now bcoz of the COVID lockdown you probably can’t travel or do things with your friends much but maybe you can film something while being lockdown with your kids instead. Such as cooking day with Rocky. Filming your kids while they’re waiting for you in the van. I want to know what they’re talking about. Interview your kids how it is like to be living in a van. Filming day to day life routines kind of vlog. Anything you film I enjoy watching coz it looks real to me n you make it different than other Chanels. I like how you’re being yourself n you seem to be a funny guy. Also sometimes your kids comments are hilarious. Thank you for making me laugh n sharing your life with us audience! Looking forward to see the next adventure of yours!! P.s. Have you considered about putting Rocky n Archer’s comments on the stickers that you made? Sorry for my weird n long comment but you don’t have to be bother or even read it. 😅😅

Cook once, eat many times. Shower once, that's good enough. I'm dreaming of my next camper van. It will have an Air-2-Water generator, a recirculating shower, insta-hot water heater, plus a composting toilet and methane generator for cooking and heating. Maybe one day all housing will be designed like that ... mobile, self-contained, self-powered, with onboard recycling built-in.

PLEASE NOTE that you should look for a drinking water grade hose such as the Teknor Apex Zero-G from West Marine if it's also filling your drinking water. BPA free is always best.

Always run the hot water in our house into an empty gallon milk bottle until it gets hot. Then use the shower. Then use the bottled water for all potted plants and even some in ground yard plants. Living in S CA for years with its water woes, has initiated this method. Conserve, conserve, conserve.

I commented that but really I don’t think the video is about trying to conserve his water, it’s more about how much he uses on a normal basis.

Future video? After living in the van for so long, could you do a video on what it would take to keep the van cool in the summer and warm in the winter with insulation? what would be the ultimate R for the floor, the walls and the ceilings? you mentioned in a previous video that a fan just recycled hot air. But AC can drain your battery pretty fast if the van is not properly insulated. i would love to hear your thoughts on the topic. Thanks!

Thanks man, I have been trying to figure out the rough usage vs size for my build. Got 6 months to complete it and I am just now finishing the design phase and getting ready to start building. Given your video I now have a pretty good idea that 30gal is more than enough for 2 people (no shower) I had been running off the game plan / idea of 1 gal a day per person as that's how we planned water when I was in the military, so at least I was not too far off lol I don't suppose you can do a video similar to this for your solar / battery life? Still not sure how much power I should go for, and I am too lazy to run around grabbing all the electrical measure info and doing the math, so one of these but for power would be great and hey free video idea lol

Would it not be easier, considering everything, to plan on filling your water tank once a week whether you needed to or not? Why be concerned about running out of water each week????? Have a great day!
