@bourbonjunkies, Magnus Master Blender Nancy Fraley here. Yikes. It's interesting, since we've actually gone back to much closer to the original recipe for JMCB, which was low proof and 100% MGP. Batches 15 through 97 were mostly very high proof Barton's stock, which seems like a lot of folks liked but didn't realize what it is, since they thought it was MGP. What batch do you have there? I can give you the specs on your batch if you let me know which one it is.

I don’t think we should be encouraging people to overspend on bourbon, just exacerbates the problem. I walk out of stores that have high markups on bottles, I’m not their customer. Most good stores will put these types of bottles in a raffle at msrp.
@jacksmith23158 ай бұрын
They arent encoutaging people to over spend. We are all adults. We do what we want. They are just telling people how much its worth to them. If anything, its telling people not to over spend because most of these bottles cant be found at retail, so they are telling people they wouldnt spend the 100s of dollars they are on the secondary for, but if they have to pay more for it, where they believe the cut off should be.

It also helps that it was a Batch 23C. I wouldn't completely rule out buying another one at $200 at some point (and no higher than that), but I agree $150 sounds a lot better to me.

If you're thinking about Traveller whiskey, just get a bottle of Jameson Original for close to half the price. If blended whiskey is what you're looking for. Sub-$30 more like $15-20 is what Traveller's should be priced at. Thankfully I was able to get a sample of it at the store. Regarding the Stagg, that's unfortunate that the batches are getting sketchy. I haven't had Stagg yet nor have I seen a bottle of it at a store. So since I never see it and haven't had it, I guess I won't be worrying about it. 🤣🤔

For me, its a skip at 200. Would have to be 150 for me, eventhough i never had it, i just dont value much whiskey as much as 200. Especially since ive got rip 10 and 12 for 160 each. For a cigar blend/batch/series, ill take rye cigar series for 100-110 all day. I dont see JMCB being worth double that. Buzzard roost cigar rye for 70 is pretty good too. First pour was absolutely horrible. I actually gave it to my bro as a joke. Couple weeks later i had it again and it was so much better. Luckily he gave it back to me since it was part of a joke as an xmas present. I felt bad taking it since i did give it to him, but i did give him another bottle. Alberta premium cask strength rye. Im not a fan of it, he said he liked it the couple times i brought it up, when i gave it to him after he gave back the BR CR, he said he didnt care for it, so again i felt bad taking the BR CR and giving him the AP. Now that you guys are blending and finishing your own whiskeys, can you explain to a novice (me and I’m sure a few others) why things like Elija Craig, Larceny and particularly Stagg (jr) put out 3 barrel proof variations in a year? Why don’t the Master distillers blend for continuity of flavor to not have a batch that isn’t great? I know that you may give up a superstar ( EC C923) but you won’t have a mediocre (and still expensive) possibly A or B batch. My local store just had GT Stagg for $1100, Stagg for $300, Rockhill Farms for $400, Taylor single barrel $279, they have pretty much lost my business, they just price gouge way to much! I would walk 20 miles to get a $150 Stagg! 😂

Obviously intentional as they are out of focus and the bottle in question is always in focus. Funny stuff guys.

For 40 bucks you're way better off buying Bardstown origin White label too.
