I'm sure the lads won't see this, but I just wanted to put forward my thoughts. I am absolutely loving the current gaming content. I have been a loyal Hat Films fan for YEARS now, but cannot find time in my day to watch their streams very often. This has led to me going from a Hatter that has always been completely up to date on inside jokes, moments, and current themes, to someone feeling quite out of the loop. The current gaming videos (not to mention the amazing vlogs on the main channel) have brought back the nostalgic delight of a few years ago. Despite the fact they have never met me, the three lads have been a huge part of my life, and it's lovely to have some 'old' normality back. Of course, things change and progress is essential, but it's nice to feel engaged again.

It's honestly difficult to say what a game is worth. Mario Kart feels like it's worth every penny, to use the example given. Sure, there's only 32 tracks and around 30 characters, with no real meat to get stuck into. But all the tracks feel lovingly crafted, full to the brim with detail, and the mechanics are completely solid even if item balance can be an issue. As such, it feels insanely replayable even solo. Compared to Hot Wheels Unleashed... It has a campaign of sorts with a few branching paths and a few secrets to solve, but once it's done you're left with a completely half-assed rest of the game. You have a brilliant track creator (and livery editor) but no options for discovering that content other than a list that shows what was most recently shared. And that thing was kinda the major selling point of the game. It was within the first trailer released for the game, and then interviews later said the devs used that track creator to create all of their races for the game. I could list a few more grievances with it, but it's still a really fun game to play. I hold hope that Milestone are going to implement such discoverability options to the game, as that would easily make the full £50 (£90 in my case for the Ultimate edition) feel a lot more worth it.

journalism is dead and no amount of "unbiased" AI (which is only as unbiased as the people that wrote the code) will ever fix it i like the funny overpriced toy car game :)
@loganl75473 жыл бұрын
I think in all honesty, you can never create or expect something to be created that is unbiased, because at the opposite end of the "Creation > Consumption" supply chain you have bias people consuming the information, a bias person will disbelieve anything they didn't previously believe to be true, and will believe anything that confirms what they already believed, obviously this isn't 100% of the time, but it's enough of the time that it's virtually impossible to rally people against an idea if they weren't against it before the rally. You will never convince the Saudi's that petroleum is bad for the environment, the same as you will never convince the Chinese, Canadians, or Brazilians that hydro electric dams obliterate water ways and aquatic environments, they've already formed their opinions and any information that contradicts their opinions is flagged as misinformation, bias information, or economic sabotage.
@Apodeipnon3 жыл бұрын
@@loganl7547 it's hard to change people's minds, but people may change their own minds over time I think, provided they get exposed to the right information. That's why it's still quite bad that the media environment is as trash as it is, because it could be different I think. Economic questions are pretty different tho. Generally you can't expect people or countries to go against their own interests. You can only show them better ways to achieve their interests. Btw they did build a fish escalator for a hydro dam in China, as a proof of concept and it seems to work well. There are people who care about these issues and who are working on solutions, in some cases.
@loganl75473 жыл бұрын
@@Apodeipnon Yes, and one primary point in favour of people being able to change their minds is the global reduction in coal as a primary fuel source, but I think with coal at least, people could visibly see the harm all around them, in the form of thick black smoke, a lot of other forms of energy production have harms that are considerably less easy to detect, but the harm is in fact still there. The undersea current turbines are probably one of the best overall in terms of limiting environmental impact, unfortunately they aren't particularly effective at generating the massive power requirements of a country like China. Obviously solar is a great power generator as well, with very little environmental impact, but in terms of Watts per square meter of space used, they really suffer there, again a country like China just has too much power demand for pure solar to be capable of powering the entire country. Hydroelectric is probably the most economically sound (cheapest) way to produce energy while simultaneously balancing environmental friendliness, but it's not perfect, there are lakes and rivers all over the world that simply do not exist anymore because of massive hydroelectric projects... but that's just it isn't it? Balancing economy with the environment is somewhat necessary in the current global climate, if money didn't exist we'd be able to build whatever power systems we wanted to without concern of it's financial ramifications, but that just isn't the world we live in. There is of course a great argument in favour of nuclear energy, and if done right, responsibly that is, and built with quality of design over speed and cost of construction in mind, is a very safe form of energy production, and produces an absolutely massive amount of power per sq meter of space used and per kg of fuel consumed. I think, ultimately, our issue is and has always been, as a species, that we are always looking for the "Best Solution", singular, forgetting that diversity of solutions might actually be our salvation.

The 'extra hour' debate is all about choice or the illusion thereof. If I've just worked a full day and are comfortable with my wages then being asked to work an extra hour, even if for greater reward, is likely to be answered with a no because that extra reward is not viewed as being more valuable than my free time. The same could be said if I did want the extra money but I had plans after work that I didn't want to/couldn't rearrange, again the reward isn't worth the sacrifice. The problem comes when it's not exactly a choice, the problem comes when you are under pressure to do that extra hour not because of desire to earn extra but because you risk losing expected future earnings through losing favour with clients or whoever is paying your wage. It's being forced into doing work you didn't have to do for money you didn't need because someone important wanted you to do it. You're going to have to cancel that hot date you'd been working on for weeks or miss meeting up with that old friend who is only in town for one night because restaurant critic Ross turned up 10 minutes before closing and wants a lobster thermidor and if you say no your boss will blame you for making their restaurant look bad, while this may not result instant dismissal it will almost certainly result in less favourable shifts in future or being passed over when the chance for promotion arrives. It's low key racketeering, they can't fire you today because you've fulfilled your contractual obligations but they might fire you in a month under other pretences because you weren't willing to go above and beyond when they wanted you to. Whether you like it or not, they have power over you and you don't really have a choice

News media in general just needs to be entirely scrapped in the way it's run. Too many rules and regulations in place, different executives and content checking that can easily be used to mask alteration or censorship of certain news pieces, as well as the perspective they are shown from. There is also a lot of "donations" that come up when you look into a lot of news networks finances, some of the most notable being recent presidential administration's (both left and right) as well as foundations and businesses that politicians either own or hold large stakes in. The media should be free to report on whatever it chooses, with complete and unfaltering immunity from the governing bodies that they operate under, both in regard to gifts and donations of any kind as a method of acquiring favour, or through threat of inconvenience or harm. That isn't to say I don't think there should be some form of regulation in regard to the media. Networks should NEVER express ANY interest or investment in either side on any story presented. Journalism should be about informing the public on the fact of any and all situations. Those facts should never be presented in any way that could potentially influence the opinion of the public. If you want to debate policies and wish to spread your influence, then we need to have it on a different network, advertised as what it is, which is discussing the perspectives through debate and conformation. In summary, the news should be the facts, if you want to discuss an opinion, distaste or approval, you should do it elsewhere, in a place where such discussion can be expressed properly with an honest intention.
