The video is very good and clears all the things with a very precise animation :-) My kind request is you can try to duck the sound of background when the narrator is speaking because the background music is bit too loud which makes it a little difficult to concentrate on the narrators voice ... but the overall video is excellent ..Kudos (y)

+indraidabagus the engine is on the left if this is inside a Ducati motorcycle. Your question is difficult to answer because there are so many applications and most clutches can be used in either direction. But, to give you an example, look at a Ducati motorcycle. The shaft on the left of the animation would be the shaft inside the engine connected to the piston rods. This means the inner plates are spun by the engine and the clutch transfers the rotation to the plates with the teeth on the outside. Then that can be used to turn a belt that then spins the transmission and finally the tires. So the most simple answer could be to say "engine on left" but because of the endless possibilities he didn't want to say it as a blanket statement.

Thank you for the great explanation. There's one thing about multiple clutches that I don't understand. These clutches sit together with the gears in the gearbox and run in oil. Even though the friction disks and the steel plates are pressed together, why don't they slip (because of the oil) ?

the explanation in the video from time 1:57 sec. is said vice-versa with respect to the animation. Can you correct it? So when the friction plate and steel plates are pressed together power is transmitted And when the plates are not pressed together power is not transmitted. So can i say that the working of multiple clutches is opposite to working of single plate clutch. since in a single plate clutch, when the diaphram spring is pressed the power is not transmitted and when it is released there is power. (NOT THE PRINCIPLE OF WORKING)

You can clutch less shift....if that's what you mean. Pre-loading the shifter, while momentarily letting off the throttle, and ill pop into the next gesr no problem, but to "powershift...AKA quickshift. You need a quickshifter, or a power commander/ Bazazz with quickshifter...If that helps

Does a one plate clutch have to be so heavy to have enough friction that disengaging it would be too hard for a system that wouldn't be bulky and heavy for a motorbike? Is this why single-plate clutches are commonplace on cars but I've never seen one on a motorbike before?
@nagualdesign
@nagualdesign 9 жыл бұрын
+junoguten I assume it's because single-plate clutches require a much larger radius in order to get the same leverage. Even if they were lightweight they'd be far too bulky for a motorbike.

The information in this video, while detailed, is wrong. A clutch is engaged when it acts as a "clutch," allowing slip between a torque point. A clutch is disengaged when it acts as a solid unit. Also, if the springs on his pressure plate acted as they do in the model, the unit would be engaged at all times due to the spring load from the return springs! This clutch would literally require you to operate it backwards leaving you holding the clutch to drive!!
@phillipmcintosh6489
@phillipmcintosh6489 6 жыл бұрын
1) "A clutch is disengaged when it acts as a solid unit" Wrong! The clutch is disengaged when the input and output act as 2 separate units, i.e. not connected to each other. Another matter altogether is when you disengage any outside influence (i.e. release the clutch lever or pedal) and the clutch acts as a solid unit but that is NOT a disengaged clutch but just a play on words. Even the very meaning in the dictionary will tell you that. (to clutch is to grab hold of something) 2) The model above is exactly how many motorcycle clutches work and the clutch is engaged (input and output spinning as a solid unit) at all times unless you pull the clutch lever (or pedal) in in which case the clutch push-rod pushes against the clutch hat (via a bearing) thereby releasing pressure on the clutch and therefore allows the input and output to be independent of each other.

So..what's the benefit of having multiple plates? Are more plates necessarily better? Most racing applications I've heard of use multiple plates..does that mean they're not recommended for daily driving? Are they harder to press down than single plates? Any info is helpful thank you
@retovath
@retovath 8 жыл бұрын
They're not necessarily bad for DD, they're typically just lighter and more compact. This comes at the cost of complexity, which decreases part life and increases maintenance costs. They can also be used to transmit significantly more power than single clutch plate systems.
