@@private6549 Highly disagree. Most people buying a car NEED the car for medical purposes, work or family. You 100% DO NOT need to have 7k in the bank and straight up buy a car for 7k. This part "And NEVER buy a car if you can't pay for the whole thing in cash and still have plenty of money left over" is just straight up unrealistic. Most normal people cant just straight up buy a car and have money left over, because not everyone has parental support. Did I love the cars? Yup. (I've had 2 now). This gave me the predictability that allowed me to fix my trainwreck of a life. He bought a used car for 8k at 33% interest. He put $500 down and had a $7,500 loan. The car was worth around 5-6k. 33% interest is the maximum interest a licensed lender can charge in that state. When he got back from the dealer with his "new" car everyone looked at his paper work that showed he paid 8k at 33% interest and laughed at him. The ridicule was merciless. They called him stupid and everything else. But not one of them went to the dealer with him when he asked for help. It was sad.

1st time buyer mistake. I did the same as well coincidentally going on 5 years ago in summer 2016. I Lost my interest in cars as I was in school and jumping into my career. Went to my first car show with friends, found out that Skyline GTRs are legal and literally bought the first one i can find ( I didn't even know how to drive a manual , my friend had to drive it home). A clapped out overpriced white one for 18k ( In retrospect for 18k back then, Skyline GTRs should be in better condition) . It was in bad condition despite having some fun road trips in it. I sunk in 3k on buying replacement parts to get it back on the road. Luckily i only had to spend 600$ at my friends shop. Starting in 2017, Now doing actual research on the vehicle, finding out all of this was a money pit. I put it up for sale. Me loving Gran Turismo and since this is my dream car I will get another one but this time do it right and not buy a stateside Skyline. I discovered an exporter in Nagoya Japan who does special orders , have minor work done to it , parts i had them order/ parts I had shipped to them and have it painted before being shipped to the states. I sold the white 32 GTR for way less then i paid for and sunk in at 12k, 6k less than I paid for :( . But months later in August 2017 when the new refreshed one arrived at the ports, I been stress free since. I put in some money in modifications but overall Ive literally spent nothing since it landed besides regular maintenance. Some times you gotta take a L to learn and get better in life. Especially when it comes to cars and purchasing them.

I did something similar with my first car but not nearly to the degree $$ wise in which you did, however my second car was also a basket case too. So much money and time, tons of set backs that I didn't need that prevented me from jumpstarting my life in a correct way. I know its hard for young guys to face the reality of buying a 'boring' car, but its worth it. If you're living independently and need reliable transportation, buy cheap and reliable, it will allow you to get to a point of buying a good, fun car, later on. Also, A friend of mine went out and bought a newer car when he couldn't really afford it, insane interest rate + ins, and I watched it bite him for the entire 5-6 year loan until he totaled it, and before he totaled it, the transmission was on its way out. I think people get this confused sometimes too. Cheap + Reliable isn't always boring. I always tout old Nissan and old Infiniti (Pre 2003-2006ish) because they're tons of fun and pretty reliable, they'll outrun most of anything in the price range, and they come without the added rice potential of getting a terrible car from say, a Honda, where some high-school kids DIY'd everything.

I come back to this video every month to stop myself from buying my dream car too early in life. Car debt is no joke, and the unfortunate truth is that being young with few responsibilities is the best time to build wealth. Thank you for sharing!
@CookinBeatloafАй бұрын
I did it quicker than expected. Drive a low cost efficient vehicle. Pay off your high interest debt. Then start putting aside the amount of monthly payment you think would be a good idea. Adjust as needed. Then, calculate how many months you would need to save the money, and figure out what the current total cost of interest would be. Readjust either the car expectation, the duration, or find a way to save more money if needed to keep the cost of impatience where you find it acceptable. Do not go to drive the car where there are salespeople, don't look at FOMO promos, etc until you know what you can actually afford and how much extra you're willing to pay to drive it today instead of waiting to buy it outright. I chose to invest the money according to my risk tolerance, which ended up making me a lot of money. I was able to save for my affordable dream car ($50k several years ago ) much quicker this way. I almost got a nice commuter, a miata, and a few others. I was tempted to get a Cayman, but the numbers were gross to me. Maybe an M3... Nope. M2... Nope. M255 (whatever the number was), still nope. Then when I found the one, I had around 50k in the bank set aside for it. Negotiated to the out the door price to hit where I wanted to be then shopped the finance to below inflation. I ended up only taking maybe 1/5 of the money out for down and to make the monthly be what I wanted. At any time, I could own the car outright if I wanted. Meanwhile, that 40k has grown to 75k while I enjoy the car, luckily no significant expenses, just routine maintenance and my choose to add a winter wheel and tire set.

Ramsey is great for the everyday working blue collar person. However, if you want to achieve real success, Ramsey will not guide you correctly. You shouldn't fear debt. Billionaires have billions in debt. You don't grow wealth by being afraid to take risk. Smart risk is one of the best ways to advance in life. You have to get comfortable with debt to succeed in most area's. It is what it is. Debt is a tool to gain wealth, when used improperly however, as a tool to NOT gain wealth, its useless, and that applies for most regular people.

@Beau 300 miles in a Model X from Tesla’s fastest charger costs $25 as opposed to about $60 for the same range for a luxury SUV in California. I believe the battery replacement is covered for 8 years. If you buy a very early production model, then costs will be high as it was for the Model S guy. But the Model 3 and Y are much simpler cars with lass costs spent for repairs. Features like regenerative breaking make it so you rarely have to change your brakes and the lack of maintenance outside of the AC also reduce repair costs
@mikeyle1193 жыл бұрын
@Beau most people dont use fast charge tesla stations, its easier and much more cost effective to charge at home overnight for about 9 cent a kw, which translates to about 3 cents a mile, or about a dollar for 30 miles of range, as opposed to current gas prices which give you about 30 miles of range for one gallon, $3.50 a gallon on average, my tesla saves me about 2000 a year on gas.
@Sticknmove_b583 жыл бұрын
@Beau I have, electric cars aren’t what they used to be. The next coming years the technology of electric cars will surpass the efficiency and practicality of conventional fuel vehicles.
