Im from the Philippines and my folks left overseas for work in the middle east when me n my bro were 3yo n 6months. We communicated with cassette tapes they sent every week and wed reply with our own cassettes tapes that my grandparents would send back. Whole conversations and stories on hundreds of tapes. I miss that effort of love in todays world.

Honestly public pay phones need to make a come back. They still have a niche place in society in my opinion.

Yes, I was very sad when the last one disappeared from my town that I live in now. I used to live in a really small town as a kid and the phonebox disappeared there quite early as it was misused with the callee pay feature. You could call someone and have them pay for the call.. That was even before most people had cellphones.

Tragically Sweet. If I were your dad right now, I would be going around to the backyard for a good happy cry.

Your dad sounds amazing. My dad couldn't be bothered to keep in touch with my brother or me. For my 16th birthday I called him. He took the opportunity to tell me that I wasn't his kid. I told him that the guy he said was my genetic donor, who had been my step-dad for a few years, was way better as a dad for a few years after the divorce than my dad was when I lived 100 ft away from him. I hope you get the chance to tell your dad that he was amazing and that the payphones are reminding you of his love.

Bill and Ted fact: The time machine was supposed to be a van, but was changed due to the Dolerean from Back to the Future. So in honour of Doctor Who, a pay phone was used instead.

I remember letters, when my ex was in one country and me in another. Good on your dad for not giving up, many would have. These days, as you said, keeping you from speaking to him would never fly. Hope you're enjoying the new member of the family. Is Millie Beans taking it well?

speaking of the defibs in the phone boxes, i actualy realy like that as a use for them! here in germany they just tore down the phone boxes after they got disconnected, but using them as a very visible, easy to access easy to find space to store a defibrilator is actualy a realy smart and probably quite helpful use of the phone boxes in my opinion :3

My darling husbands mother did something similar: when dad called she would scream and yell sometimes for hours and when dad had no more time to talk, she would hand the phone over to the kids. Sometimes dad would be crying from all the abuse that was thrown at him shm. He eventually gave up calling. I'm sorry your mom acted that way, glad your dad didn't give up.

I’m so sad for young Clare; she must have been so confused. And felt so guilty for loving her Dad. And so unsure of whose side she should be on. 😢❤

Thank you for sharing. Well that was good of him to do whatever he needed to for keeping in touch

My dad worked 24 hour shifts. They had a pay phone at the fire house he worked at. So when he worked he'd call home let it ring one time then hang up. Then mom would the payphone he was at to talk. God haven't thought about that for years. That's for the memories

I would say this is sad, but I didn't have a good relationship with either of my parents growing up.

That's...pretty scummy of your mom. But I don't know her or her reasons. My divorced parents' arguments were always about money, and my mom used talk SO MUCH shit about my dad, but my dad NEVER spoke badly of her, out of respect that she didn't deserve.

hey! i don't know if you'll see this but i have a question: i was doing some research on celtic languages for fun and i randomly came across your channel which led me to this short where you're wearing a ferris state university sweatshirt. as someone from michigan, my question is, how did you come upon this shirt? i couldn't imagine that anyone from any other country would even know what michigan is but it is even more interesting to me that you would have a sweatshirt from one of our least known universities.
