I have a friend who is currently being scammed by multiple “women” across the country, and for the past 4 years. I even gave him direct evidence it was a scam and they were lying to him, he took it but just kept believing them. Now he is telling me he has no money. Really really sad. This needs more attention.

Everyone is out to scam people these days. Even companies are figuring out ways to rip off their customers in every category from buying a car to buying a house or even groceries. I don't even go into local shops anymore. I wouldn't give my money online to anyone, but I'm just as cautious with people in real life.

Two things: 1) Once you've been married, you're addicted to having a mate. Lose that mate and you immediately seek another. You NEED one like heroin. You cannot function alone. 2) You brain gets soft and easily manipulated when you get old. Scammers home in on older men and women who are alone and seeking companionship on dating sites AND in real life encounters. They're relatively easy pickin's for slick operators. Children need to stay in touch with lonely, aging parents and make sure they don't get sucker-punched.

I used to go on dating sites but stopped after noticing that there were more scammers than actual people. I have had them try to scam me but I got good at spotting them. I finally decided to give up dating online. It's too big of a risk. Watch for if they ask for money or tell you they love you within a week or tell you they are trapped overseas or are injured. They pray on vulnerability.

My uncle was ripped off 800k buy a guy who lived in western Florida. Said my uncle was his only friend and the guy needed money to keep his poor mother alive. Turns out the guy worked for an investment firm and was convicted of ripping off a dozen seniors for about 8 to 10 million. Of course he got busted, did 2 years in a country club. And none of the victims got even a penny retuned. You gotta wonder how much cash law enforcement pocketed.

Sure you get wiser as you get older, but at some point once your mental faculties start declining things can start happen like this. I wouldn't blame the daughter- she was living on opposite sides of the country and it sounded like she tried to warn her dad but he wouldn't listen.
