That is shocking. I'll bet almost nobody knows about this type of thing. Good job at protecting your family.

Very interesting story! Glad you were able to address it. I have the amazon air quality monitor and there have been a few surprising discoveries. The main one was just how many VOCs were detected in the apartment when applying spray-on sunscreen indoors. We even applied it just outside the door and then came back inside, and STILL the VOCs skyrocketed. Also noticed that if we don't clean the air fryer regularly, it starts to impact the air quality when we run it. Same with the toaster. It's also really important to run the vent fan above the stove when frying foods. All things I never once thought about before getting the monitor. Kind of cool!

Glad to hear everyone is safe and able to catch it early. I have the same thermostat and model and I from time to time remote start my SUV in the garage open. This morning because it’s unusually cold due to cold front here in Texas and I did the remote start thing but I usually back my car in and I am closest to the door that leads into the house and the thermostat is in line of sight as well. Just for a brief time no more than a couple minutes. I saw immediately the air quality went to poor on my thermostat. I didn’t think CO2 could fill the area that quickly. Now I will be more cautious.

Glad you're aware now too! And know exhaust fumes have a lot more than CO2 in them but we can use that as an indicator.

Since you run Home assistant I have a great project for you. This might be overkill but it would be a cool addition to further curbing your air pollution in the house. You could install an exhaust fan inside the garage. You could set up an automation in HA that kicks the fan on for five minutes or so when you drive your car in. You would need a fresh air intake as well. I also use HA so I'm always trying to come up with new things to add.
@NaterTater7 ай бұрын
Yes great idea. I've been considering many options like that to improve it. One easy solution is another fresh air intake which brings in fresh air but also reduces or eliminates the negative pressure.

Could you set up your smart thermostat to turn off the AC during the time you leave for work or for 5 minutes when the garage door opens etc? Might not be a bad idea to have an HVAC guy come out and see what changes would be needed to your HVAC system to get positive pressure. You might have other issues exacerbated by negative pressure (allergies and pollen, smoke from wold fires etc). Good video!
@NaterTater7 ай бұрын
Yes I could. I am looking into additional fresh air intake. I have a radon mitigation system which basically is just always sucking air out of the house. That is likely contributing to the neg pressure.

minor correction, it’s “Carbon Monoxide”, but we get the jist.. furnace develop a leak?
@NaterTater7 ай бұрын
This is carbon dioxide which is typically considered non toxic since we all breathe it out ( atleast in comparison to carbon monoxide) as mentioned in the video. Also the ecobee doesnt measure CO so I dont know those levels in this eval but my CO alarms were not going off.
@Leonardokite7 ай бұрын
CO at those levels would be DEADLY!

Thank you for all you do to educate us....I have 1 question I live in a remote area and my tmobile whole home service is not that good ,I currently have the sagecom 5688 W fast and just purchased the KVD 21 off of eBay .Can I use my sim card in either one of the gateways or do I have to contact Tmobile and get a new sim for the KVD21? Thanks Mitch
@NaterTater7 ай бұрын
You should be able to swap the sim between them so long as the kvd21 you purchased isnt "black listed" by tmo. For example if they know someone stole it.

Please help me I bought a router to be precise the TP-Link archer AX4400 I paid 130$ and I got it hooked up to my T-mobile gateway the NEW white one which is in my window facing towards the tower and I also use a Ethernet from my Xbox to the new router and my speeds are the same just as if I was using the T-mobile gateway I have it in my room idk if it’s because I need it in a central location in the House which I wouldn’t know how to do that because then I would have to move my gateway and where my gateway is now is the best place in the house

A new wifi router cant improve the ISP speed of the gateway.

@@NaterTaterwait then what’s the purpose of getting a new router because I’m lost I thought it would improve my download speed and help with them going down during the day due to congestion
