Great video and great home. I wonder why your doorbell was integrated to homekit via Homebridge instead of via Home Assistant (which I use for my doorbell). I’m curious if it is a bit faster to show live view in the pop up window than via Home Assistant.

For the NFC switchplate tags, you could set the screws vertical for switches with a tag, and tighten them to horizontal for switch plates without an NFC tag. Doesn’t help you remember what each NFC tag does, but it’s a very unobtrusive way to identify where they are.

I had the same cold water issue in my home. Game changer was having a recirculation pump installed which keeps warm water flowing through the pipes. I connected the pump to a smart plug and have automated it with Home Assistant to only run when we're home and during times we are likely to use the shower or faucets. Highly recommend for water savings 👌 Love the vids. Keep it up!!! ❤️

@MikeHarris1984

I did this too... I then put automations that my motion sensors in areas where I need hot water kick on the pump. and another automation where during times when we are doing dinner and need hot water at the kitchen, or normal shower times and morning times, I have it kick the pump on during those normal times we use hot water. Then all other times its off, and diffrent for mon-fri and sat-sun. I did this in smart things many years ago at my old house and then my new house is 4x the size and has 4 trunks going to set of branches, so I had to get a mix valve for each trunk, so that branch of outlets gets near instant hot water. . I wish I could just set which trunk to turn on, i.e. pump under the sink. But those systems are PRICEY and needing 4 of them vs the single pump on the water heater. But this automation works and its awesome!!!! Granted here in AZ, summer time, cold water is a minimun of 98° water anyways, its not too bad. But winter time, its amazing...
@jmurray0220
@jmurray0220 Жыл бұрын
@@MikeHarris1984 I have the Bosch Hot Water Heater 9000 series that doesn't allow for adding an external recirculation pump. However, I do use their app to initiate the recirculation prior to demanding hot water. Your method would be so much easier.

Get so many ideas from the tours people record. The Everything Presence One sensor kit seems perfect for multiple projects I have in mind. The foot level lighting in the bathroom and under the bed is perfect for my father when he needs to get up in the middle of the night. He forgets to turn on the light and stumbles into the bathroom. A lot of the things I'm contemplating are focused on making things easier for my dad, who suffers from dementia. So far just using some aqara buttons to let him announce where he needs assistance.

Thanks! The 3 Powerwalls and the solar allow me to run completely off the grid if I had to. I can run both AC units and everything in my house on just those 3 powerwalls. I do it everyday when we are on peak pricing. The power from the grid did go down a month ago and the kitchen lights flickered for a split second but nothing else in the house changed. I have 2 different video recommendations for you: 1-Integrating a security alarm system with smart home devices can enhance your home's safety and convenience. Example: Ring sensors on, outside cameras on (other than ring cameras). 2- In case of an emergency, such as a power outage or attempted intrusion, it's crucial to safeguard your home effectively. In certain regions like California, where fuse boxes are outside houses, there is a risk of someone disabling your security system by tampering with the fuses. Are you using backup power? if yes, with Tesla Powerball?, if yes, how:)?

I just replugged in my old alexa from 2016 just so I can ask what the weather will be in the morning. This opened up a whole can of worms to connecting the roomba, garage, buying two color changing bulbs, and another trip to home depot for more strip lights. I thought about doing more smart home things but after watching this I'm overwhelmed. I don't think I need this much automation and button cell replacing in my life.

hey, I just saw that you need to run the shower for long to get hot water. It was the same for me, because the water heater boiler was far away, so I installed a circulating pump for hot water which I trigger just 3 min or so before getting a shower and it is hot right away. Saves a lot of water in a family home:)

So I really liked your you vibration sensor trigger in your theater. I thought I would share a similar trigger I made a year or two ago. I wanted to create a trigger utilizing the classic 90’s clapper. I do not code, so rather than writing a program I bought the actual clapper. I plugged it into my SmartThings plug switch. I then plugged a nightlight into the clapper. The logic for the trigger was the SmartThings plug switch supplies power to the clapper. The clapper is by default in the off position. When I clap the night light will turn on. The SmartThings plug detects the voltage of the night light and runs the automation. The SmartThings plug with then toggle the power to the clapper resetting it to the off position. The clapper has two plugs that can be controlled independently using either two claps or three. Theoretically you could have a different voltage devices that could trigger separate automation.

I used to have a smart house like yours and now I am kind of wondering if I should keep investing on it anymore. I had smart lights and nest thermostat. I had a server running HA to organize all those. But honestly, I have not touched my thermostat since I changed my insulations in the walls. I barely used my AC since my insulation is just that good. As for lights, I find that I still prefer wall switches in the living room and kitchen. I prefer motion sensitive lights instead of having to get my phone to open it for the light at porch. Bedroom lights are still dimmable smart lights though. My vacuum robot is old and probably needs to be replaced but that does not connect into my HA system. So right now my HA only has my bedroom lights and a door bell.

@@SmartHomeSolver Thank you! This is exactly what my wife and I have been wanting.... We wanted the tracks that are on the sides so its perfect length and locked in from the windows just blowing around. Since it is RF, I am hoping I can use my CC1101 Tranciever on one of my custom ESP32-S3 Platforms I designed for my sensors/3D box, and place them around for various functions, like a BME680 in each to get air quality, humidity, gasses, and temps. I then built a heatmap over my floorplan (I built my house in 2019, so saved the floorplan and my options picked off the builders site so I can build off that scale in picture elements), aslo I include a BH1750 to detect light iside on/off, shades open/close. messing with adding a MMwave sensors to it, but need to design the anteana perfect to operate at that frequency needed on the PCB... I designed a main board and then I can build up modules that are tiny and stack to build the perfect sensor for what room I need, add to ESPHome in HomeAssistant, and have my 3D print file for 1,2,3,4,5,6x modules and so the box is as small as it needs to be to house the sensor. Just have to power with either a battery pack of 4 18650 to get a lot of power banked and a small solar panel in the window to help keep them topped/at level so I dont have to change much. Building this same sensor pack for a friends house where he had pre-wired alarm system, but doesnt use it, so each window and door has a contact sensor going back to the panel board to nothing... so put a custom PCB with all the sensors there. I can then run 5V over the wire to certain ones, put my sensor pack there wired, so not on batteries, and then hook the contact sensor to a pinout and program in HA, so still has alarm contact sensor to get window open/closed, and can power all the sensors in every room in any window.

Interesting to see you're still using the P2 sensor. Mine is still quite buggy - to the point where I consider going back to the P1.

Put your bed motion sensor under the nightstand, on the wall, facing outwards. It works for me.

Have you tried powering any sensors around the house via POE? Seems like a simple clean solution for mounting an Aquara sensor on the ceiling with hidden wires???

how did you automate your eco dot to alert you if the baby is crying? I have an echo dot in my daughters room and Id love to figure out how to automate it like that.

Hey Reed! I revisited this vid because I want to integrate an FP2 in conjunction with a Hue motion sensor and I see that you have (or had) that in your living room. I have Hue Labs set up to where if I push a Hue button it bypasses the motion sensor so say, I am going to be in a room for a while and then fall asleep, the motion sensor will not trigger. Can this be coordinated with the FP2? Maybe "disarm" with an Aqara button or someting? If I want to turn off the lights even when I plan on being in a room, I don't want the FP2 to trigger them on.

Hello. Do you know an alexa skill or routine that can turn off all alarms with 1 command? I set my echo to alarm every day for 1 hr with 10 min interval 7 alarms in total). When I wake up ahead of the set time, I want to tell echo to not alarm anymore for that day.

Awesome Video! Excited to get a home to try for myself! I had one idea, you should create an "Owners Manual" lets say for your home and all the tech in it. This way you have great documentation if you ever need to come back to an item that you haven't looked at in awhile. This will also help remind you where you NFC tags are hidden in the light switch panels and their functionality. This may also help you identify if there are any tech areas which could share resources for a more efficient setup, although it looks like your setup is pretty efficient already. Love the videos, been subd for awhile now! Keep it up!

It's an older one from SmartThings amzn.to/47hm5kp but there are other really good ones. Like this one from Kasa amzn.to/44U7Lwx and Sengled amzn.to/45hZ2UG if you want Zigbee.

What were the “these little devices for room presence detection”? I don’t see them listed in description and you didn’t name them, are they part of the ecobee range, or something else? Seem fun to play around with in my home automations.

Sorry if I missed that in the description. They are ESP32 devices running ESPresense. I made a video on the second channel about it kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWjOqqSmppl4rJY and yes they are so fun and so inexpensive!
