Ironically, the Velma show feels way less mature that the show that couldn’t use bad language because airing in a kids network.
@rushalias8511
@rushalias8511 Жыл бұрын
Thays because Velma's idea of maturity is gore, sex, drugs, and cussing. Which is honestly just terrible adult comedy in my opinion. Like I would call that the equivalent of kid fart jokes for adults. Meanwhile you had the actual adult themes in mystery Inc like greed and abuse, psychological manipulation. Heck for a comparison you have fred in both shows suffer with some kind of parental abuse....but while Velma makes it a joke and punch line, mystery Inc actually treats it seriously...which is what an adult should do.
@malcerne7496
@malcerne7496 Жыл бұрын
Honestly… a lot of good “kid shows” are indeed more mature than most generic “adult shows”… that because, as explained by the other user here, many producers think that being an adult show only means a bunch of pointless swearing, sex jokes and violence, without any reason or consequences whatsoever. …like… pretty much everything became bad Family Guy clones…

This show makes me think that Velma x Shaggy could work if Velma wasn’t getting advice from Daphne (in any version of Scooby-Doo that’s a bad idea unless you’re asking for fashion advice) and if she was willing to let go of some of her control. I will also admit that I could see Velma being Bi but only with the right girl, aka NOT Daphne (her liking Fred is so ingrained in Scooby lore, it’s kinda surprising they haven’t had any kids yet)!

I think another thing worth mentioning that makes Mystery Inc better than the first Velma episode - though let's be real, there wasn't any real competition because the Velma show is hot hot trash - is how Mystery Inc shows feminism - or rather, it's female characters. I like how in Mystery Inc, you would think the girls would dress up and act as bait, but instead Scoob and Shaggy crossdress. But in the Velma show, we see the blatant disrespect to Daphne who is NUDE in the first scene and gets beaten up. Wow, I'm sure that's very empowering(!). Followed up by how massively unlikable Velma is. (But then again, everyone in the Velma Show is written like a caricature). I also think it's worth mentioning the creepiness with the pregnant lady and the mutant fetus. Feels like some weird writer fetish at sexualisation of the pregnant woman.

Good video. Though, do not forget about the key shaped locket being found. It is hard to talk about Mystery Inc without spoiling a really well written series story arc. But, the series is well done in almost in every way. Except two. The animation is simple, but the artists for the series did a lot with that animation. A simple format with very detailed artists. Not much musical difference, but when there is a musical difference, it is good. For those that do not know, Mystery Inc was made a decade ago. It flew under the radar. That is probably for the best, because it gives people a chance to watch the series as a way to clean their minds of that mess.
@theoutsiderjess1869

To me, it's what they did to Fred. Okay, sure he had always been a bit bland but he was still a good person who loved his friends and treated Daphne with respect in every incarnation even if he was a little dense on the uptake and he definitely was never n@zi misogynist who can't do anything for himself. Heck in Mystery Inc, he was usually the one making all their traps.

I never watched Scooby Doo as a child or at all. I watched Velma, to give it a shot - one episode was enough torture. I then decided to watch Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated - I almost busted a gut laughing so hard. It truly was a lot of fun and just a real joy - from characters, to writing, to set ups and pay offs. Wonderful stuff -- I will be watching more of that show and never touch Velma again.

Speaking of Mystery Inc. - I remember that show had some... Subtextual jokes, so to say. I remember how in Season 2, the gang was on the outskirts, and in there, they met Sheriff Stone and Mayor Janet. They were coming out from the bushes, and their clothes were seriously unkempt, Janet even had hat on her that Sheriff wore. And to top it all off, they had ridiculous excuse as to what they were doing. The joke was obvious - they were having sex. There was no need to show them having it, audience could easily infer it from what they were presented. Plus it followed consistency, as in that episode, Bronson and Janet went on a date prior. Not to mention it's not like they were exactly subtle about it. But it worked. Now, even though this issue is applicable to Velma, it is present pretty much everywhere in modern storytelling - everything needs to be overt and explicit. Everything needs to be said outright. The concept of subtelty and subtext is just gone. Case and point - everybody in the show makes fun of Fred for having a small penis, by saying that's the case. No subtextual teasing, just overt acknowledgment. As much as I hate to mock others intelligence, I believe it has to do with modern creatives simply lacking said intelligence or perception to create or see anything even remotely subtle. It is best evidenced by the fact that once they try to create something subtle, they're still overt about it.

doing an origin story for a series like Scooby Doo shouldn't be all that difficult, and yet against all the odds the Velma show continues to lower the bar. create a mystery-solving club in school, solve mysteries, as a reward get a van which will later become the first mystery machine, Fred fixes it up with the help of Daphne and her family's wealth, continue to solve mysteries, then nearing the end of the story, they buy a pup named Scooby Doo. Then they graduate and start travelling to solve mysteries throughout America, and boom origin story is done, easy as you like it. You don't need to change much, bring in some of the campy humor that was well-known from the original, they don't need to write the characters in a way that makes them different to what they were from the original.

Part of why the new Velma show bothered me is because the writers took old characters that they didn't initially create and tried to "fix" them. These characters were created something like twenty years ago. They have history and stories that go along through and with all the other shows. Velma is like a edgy cringey fanfic compared to everything else.

Which is a better low quality Scooby Doo show? Be cool Scooby Doo or Velma?

Velma is just absolutely terrible. Be Cool Scooby-Doo is actually good it's just that the art style is so different compared to Mystery Incorporated which made a lot of people dislike Be cool.

I wish they went past high school and did college, because I wanted to see their futures as adults. I just hate how Velma got off scot free after being an abusive and shitty girlfriend to Shaggy. Like, everyone blames ONLY Shaggy. As a woman, it doesn’t make any sense to me. Have her go with Marcy in the beginning. Don’t even do this. I hated that relationship between her and Shaggy. Hateddd it. They both were so awful to each other.
