I doubt that "thousands of changes" is an exaggeration, it's probably technically true because a bit like checking changes into a code base the changes to physical designs will be tracked and his claim is probably based on some internal change tracking system. While all of those changes were presumably done for a good reason many of the changes will likely be seen as irrelevant to an outsider e.g. perhaps uprating a signal cable run from AWG24 to AWG22 cabling because the routing changed slightly and the cable run just got 28 cm longer, or the relocation of a couple of mounting points to make the attachment of a sub assembly transmit slightly less vibration to the mounted components.

I don't understand the new water deluge system. How do they expect to shoot water up against the extremely powerful thrust of the booster? If they can produce that much water pressure under the booster then why not use that water pressure to shoot the booster up the first few miles or so? I think if the base was formed as a multi-layered dull dome whereby the water shoots out and downward out from between each layer, then this could make far more sense. The movement of water under the tip of the cone would keep that part cool, also.

Water diluge systems have been used for a while, im not a rocket expert so dont take everything I say without double checking but nasa has been using them for decades if Im right, like @mikepotter4109 said its a fire suppression system and also a force redirector, it cant redirect every bit of force from booster but it helps protect the launch pad a lot more than just letting it hit the pad with that much force, like I said i could be wrong about some of this but im somewhat sure its kinda true

@@izkrucker True but NASA uses a very different kind of water deluge. I lived in Florida for some years and frequently visited Kennedy Space Center. NASA's deluge floods massive amounts of water in from the sides. SpaceX's shoots it up through little holes from the bottom. I am not saying it won't work but, it seems to me like it will require a lot high pressure because it will have to shoot straight up against the pressure of the rocket's force.

I think it's a great idea to make Mars like a planet where people can go like one two months a year holidays and come back, but to actually go live there? I don't think it's good idea. Starship will never land on the moon or Mars. Not on the moon because it is just so inefficient, there are strong reasons for the Apollo moon lander to be 2 stage. Not on Mars because anybody landing directly will be in no condition to walk. A Mars gateway is an absolute requirement for success.
