Hey, I'm really inspired by your astrophotography work. I just started building my own setup, but I'm feeling overwhelmed and need some advice. I have a Star Adventurer GTI mount and a Skywatcher Evostar 72ED refractor. I want to capture smaller galaxies like M104, M51 and some smaller galaxy clusters. I'm considering getting a ZWO ASI715MC camera, but some people say it's not good for DSO imaging. I don't know what to expect from it, and I don't want to waste money on something that won't work well. Another option is to use a Canon DSLR like the 550D, but I'm worried the field of view will be too wide to get decent quality images of smaller galaxies. Can you give me some advice on what to expect from each camera, or if you have any other recommendations? I plan to get an autoguiding setup and field flattener in the future, but for now, I just want to try some basic imaging with just the scope and camera. Thanks in advance for your help! Hi! I think your main issue is aperture. Most people capturing galaxies are doing so with large SCTs. That scope will be good for andromeda, but other galaxies will be relatively small in the FOV. A good starter camera would be the ASI533. It’s the size of the sensor that makes it good for DSO.

Yeah, I get that my scope has a pretty wide fov, and with a DSLR it'll be also wide, but should i still try it? I think maybe i could get some decent wide-field pics of some smaller galaxies? And in the future, i can get a more expensive camera. Or will the results be pretty bad, should i just save up and get the one you suggested? Sorry if im asking too much but i don't want to end up disappointed and broke😅

@@rd_0939the DSLR will not be wide, since the sensor is cropped. But it might be worth experimenting with since that is the less expensive option. You can use the website astronomy.tools to simulate the view with each camera.

I remember way back 80s, 33 mm camera attached and timer mount. Then 1990 sky wizard .90s digital camera replaced 35mm. 2000 smartphones and laptops wrre used,stacking images too create one image .

I haven’t heard that but I would agree with it. In reality, with multistar guiding, I’ve been about to take the AZ-GTi up to capacity. And, Nico was able to take the EQ6r-pro up to capacity on a pier.

This is why I don't like astrophotography. Too complicated. This is why I have been doing visual. Even though visual is not as detailed. I have 2 telescopes, An old Starblast and a Skywatcher 8" dobsonian.
