I loved Netflix back before they switched to streaming. And nowadays I am horrified by just how little films there are available on Netflix today, shocked at what movies they DON'T carry. But when I was a Netflix regular, I watched many lesser known films that I had wanted to see for years -- a variety of indie films and quite a number of foreign films. I really don't care for much blockbuster films, so I guess that makes me demographically negligible. I don't know what happened, but I really have very little to love about Netflix. I watched so many Kurosawa films over 15 years ago. Now they only carry, what? -- maybe only three? Last I checked, they no longer even carry a much more mainstream film like Raising Arizona. I hate being force-fed lowest-common denominator rubbish -- it only seems to be getting worse with every passing year, drowning out the more interesting films that DO get made today. There really isn't much off-the-beaten-stuff available on Netflix anymore, new or classic.

I use the word "cult" for Netflix and the streaming services. Due to the binge watching of content in excess or the fear of missing out. I did not watch Game of Thrones, 13 Reasons Why, You, OITNB, Stranger Things, etc., because I just was not interested. Not my type of show. Last time I binged watched something was Breaking Bad and Homeland between 2012-2013 on pirated streaming services. And before Streaming I could rent most DVDs of The X-Files and watch them until I ended the show. It was a weekend plan.

I wonder how home entertainment will evolve passed streaming, say 50 years from now. 50 years ago we weren’t watching anything at home other than what was playing on the tv

It's an interesting question. 50 years ago people probably never imagined having in demand content in the way we have it now. I recently got a VR headset and it shows some promise for being able to replace traditional media.

@@FilmStack I am old enough to remember 2-3 VR hypes already. Basically every 10 years or so VR is "THE thing to kill of everything" before fizzling out, mostly due to issues like profound headaches from prolonged exposure. But who knows. This time it maybe true- or in 10 years when the next wave of VR happenes. In 50 years we could look at full scale holograms as entertainment though.

This channel is such high quality. I can't believe you have so few subscribers! I'd consider joining a patreon if you had one.

I don't want to focus too much on monetizing the channel just yet. Right now I still want to grow and learn. If I ever get to 1k subs I will consider enabling monetization then but at the end of the day, I just really enjoy making videos. If I earn money from it in the future then great!

I liked Netflix before it started to become ever more expensive and before the splintering of the market into like 15 different streaming services. In the end, I don't intend to subscribe to more than 2; those being Netflix and Amazon Prime atm. At this point, I am drifting more towards piracy again, I have to say. Disney+ has like one show active at any time I might care to watch; and I'm not paying the introductionary hooking costs for that. We all know Disney+ will get more expensive over time, and I don't intend to pay as much as cable ever again.

Yeh, in the future we might even see services that provide subscription bundles to a few different streaming services and then we go back to what we had with satellite and cable. But it might not be too bad. If I could pay $50 a month to get all the streaming services knowing I'm only using 1 or 2 a month vs paying $14.99 for all of them (let's say 10), it makes it more affordable. But either way, the way it is now, it's getting a bit much.

Boy I picked the worst day imaginable to watch this, as I just saw a report that said they’re shipping out the last of their dvds right now. Goddamn.
