Comon... What was banned was not a specific shoe byt the colour combo. Shoes had to be dominantly white, not dark/black. And as Michael was still not a legend and had to obey, he had to wear the lighter version and only did it once again in the dunk contest... That is the story, so they are not lying, they are only creating story/legend around certain facts. The shoe back then, whether the preseason one or the MJ1 they were practically the same, no technological differences... Just design. And the banned thing was as well not the technology but the colour combo....
