And whenever we saw Sephiroth, it was just Jenova disguising itself as him, until Sephiroth was awakened with the Black Materia. In the original, you didn’t need to see Sephiroth to know what a horror he was. When our heroes escape from their holding cells, we see dead Shinra employees and blood trails leading up to President Shinra’s corpse with Sephiroth’s iconic sword impaling him. In the remake, they introduced him way too early. I’m fine with him appearing in flashbacks because of Cloud’s unstable mind, but he showed up way too early in the present time.

I hated that all the deaths in this game were fake outs. The "death" scenes themselves were really impactful, and added emotional weight to Cloud's journey. And I was looking forward to how they were going to nail Aerith's tragic end. But no that's all been tossed into the garbage, thanks to Nomura crapping all over the end. I was really enjoying the game until the last hour or so, before it went full Kingdom Hearts, changing the time line with nonsensical gobbledegook, and stripping Sephiroth of all his foreboding and menace. He's basically just Xehanort again, a black clad silver haired ponce, spouting nonsense about destiny and so forth, but ends up getting beaten anyway. No one dies, even in the back story, everyone will live happily ever after, taking away the high stakes and maturity of the story. Damn it why did Nomura get put in charge of this? This is what happens when Nomura with no writing or storytelling talent gets full control as director. He gets to decide what is in now. Back in the original Nomura was at the bottom. Sakaguchi and Kitase were in charge, and even Nojima had more influence, and they are ALL better storytellers than this hack. But they gave Nomura top directorial spot now, and he added his dumb fuck ideas at the end. No doubt Nojima and Kitase helped keep the rest of the game stable and somewhat true to the original, but Nomura is the one who added that stupid shit at the end.

Expanding on it is ok, but it doesn’t matter if you’re just gonna let characters live when their deaths made complete sense, and made them even more memorable. I feel like the only ones they didn't ruin were Barret and Tifa (since so far we don't know anything about them, they are just there being awesome) Cloud is Cloud, but I don't like that they made Aerith basically say and do stuff that Cloud does instead, at the end of the Midgar part. Aerith saying Sephiroth is the threat and saying that to Cloud, when he is the one who has the connection with him and should know better. I didn't agree with that. Changing Sephi was ok, but changing people in the party, especially Aerith, seemed like a poor attempt to upgrade her, ended badly. I even like some things in the ending (I also like the edge of creation scene, at least it has a connection with OG plotline and I expected them to change the ending of the game, so I wasn't disappointed about that, I'm just afraid about the future parts), but it wasn't memorable or anything (It was too much all at once) and I dislike what they did with the character development of someone. I feel like the most important parts are gonna be untouched in the future, but I don't think it's Nomura's fault. At least now, they are not gonna blame him, because he's not the director anymore. I wanna see how they're gonna go with it. It doesn't matter how much time it takes, as long as it is to think about every detail, It's not gonna matter for me.

I beat FF7 remake twice. Once in normal mode and once in hard mode, and I was on the fence about how I felt about what will probably happen in the next parts. And yes I really liked the gameplay to a point I ignored a lot of the other things lacking in the game, and as a stand alone game I think it's pretty good. Even though I was on the fence, about the changes in the end I did dislike very much the design of the second to final boss, which reminded a lot me of Kingdom Hearts... After thinking about how dumb and convoluded the Kingdom Hearts story is, and also thinking about how dissappointing FFXV is, I have no doubt in my mind that Nomura is going to screw up the FF7 Remake Story. I imagine a lot of DLC's will follow and a lot of sequels, books, and videos to explain his multiverse idea. I even imagine a mobile game will be used to explain his story. I guess this is what you call "Pay to Understand" the new "Pay to Win" business plan. I'll keep playing as long as I like the gameplay... Also: WTF is their obsession with time travel and multiverses? It's like the only thing Nomura knows how to do... but doesn't know how to do at the same time. The moment I saw his name as the director on screen, I knew somewhere down the line that some thing is gonna get ruined. If you never played Kingdom Hearts or watched FF 7 Advent Children, then you probably never realize just how terrible Nomura is at directing. I know he is not the writer and I am aware that this project involved many people, but as the director and concept designer, he has the highest responsibility and full authority on what should and should not be going on in this remake. Simply put, Nomura tarnished Sakaguchi's masterpiece. It will be likely that this new plot addition would create more confusion and holes further down the line in an already somewhat convoluted plot that is the original FF 7.

Square Enix has never been "Squaresoft + Enix" since the merging. It was take over & basically the real genius behind FF games & founder of Squaresoft Sakaguchi was cleary pushed out by the new company "Square Enix." Sakaguchi & Kitase & even Tabata are a much more competent director than Nomura. Tabata with FFXV basically being sabotaged & F by his own colleagues in Square Enix, being the "fixer" director but has no real creative control of his own games.

I'm one of the older players that bought and played the original game back in 1997 when it first came out, I'm also one of the very very few people who felt that the original game is fine as it is and didn't want it remaking. That being said, I could understand why people would want one years later as technology advanced and I was cautiously interested in seeing what Square Enix would do when they officially announced the remake in development. My interest in the remake soon vanished when I found out about two changes that they had made which were red flags, the first one was the removal of the original turn based combat system which is an integral part of the original, the second change is when it was revealed that the game wasn't being released as a whole game but in an episodic format. The first point alone was more than enough for me to steer well clear of this so called "remake". Those two changes were bad enough by themselves but unknown to everybody who was waiting for the remake was another surprise, Square Enix had *changed the story itself* and said nothing about it, to advertise this so called "remake" as a remake when it isn't is straight up *false advertising* and they should be held accountable for that. The fans that have wanted a remake for years wanted one thing: A faithful remake of the whole original game from start to finish, what did they got after years of waiting patiently? A great big slap to the face with this re-imagining bullshit. This kind of stuff really makes me miss gaming in the 90's, back then you could see a game being released by a games developer such as Squaresoft and you just *knew* that you would get a finished quality game from them, back then the games they made were like gold. With Square Enix now, I end up waiting to see what other people have to say about their games before I decide to buy anything from them, that's how low they have fallen in my eyes. Please excuse the wall of text lol, I'm having to vent seeing how badly they fucked up the remake for you guys.

For the life of me, I don't understand how this game is getting such positive reviews. Even if you look at it as a standalone game, it is still just an average (action) game. And if you are looking at it with nostalgia goggles, the sheer amount of filler and fluff bogs it down between plot points so much, no matter how exciting it is to see Aerith and Tifa in HD. People can like whatever they want, but I don't understand how so many people can defend Square. They straight up lied about the game being faithful to the original. And considering how much filler is in the game, it is very clear that they chose to only cover Midgar, then struggled with how to turn a 5-hour segment into 30.

The game graphically is gorgeous and I could even force myself to get into the battle system and overly drug out chapters if truly needed. BUT they completely butchered the story to no return. Not just you. The pacing of the original was far superior. FF7R you can tell when the game is padded to waste your time, which was majority of the game excluding battles. They took a 5 hour section and stretched it to 25-40 game. Yes I went through the beginning to the exit of Midgar and clocked under 5 hours. FF7R’s entire design is to stretch things out as long as possible. Which is why the sewers and train graveyard was so long when sector 7 was in danger...

@@michialphelps2339 You have every right to be mad, They advertise the game as a recreation of a classic we all love which we didn't get, So i totally understand yours and everyone's frustration. but i do want to explain why I love this game and the idea of it. Firstly FF7 Remake does acknowledges the OG FF7 timeline and it's not meant to replace it either, which is awesome b/c it is still canon to the story. The way i see it, FF7 Remake mostly fall in line as a sequel(Continuation of Advent Children, as in Sephiroth (Black Wings) going back in time to "Remake" his Fate ) and a soft-reboot where all or most characters are still alive (even tho I think Zack and Aerith will still die/sacrifice in the end to balance the timeline). Don't get me wrong this still a very ballzy move from Nomura to go this route but I do love this idea tho. I do hope in the future we get a DLC without the whispers/timeline shenanigans tho, but still very happy with this game.

Most of the game was pretty faithful, but the very end destroyed it all. It was like each chapter was a Jenga block carefully being stacked up, and the ending was when someone tried to pull one from the bottom and they all came crashing down.

Not a remake. It’s a spin off. And the fact they are adding new plots and storylines to the original story is just messing with the timelines and lore. Square really lost the plot with this one. Regret purchasing it and I won’t be investing in episode 2 and beyond. Love the original but this is simply a whole game centred around glorifying Tifa. Don’t get me wrong tifa is bad ass but that’s not what I was signing up for. Extremely misleading to call this a remake. It’s a spin off period! Should have seen this coming I had a feeling but got to caught up in the trailers and hype. I was tricked :(

They butchered the story so badly. The remake was supposed to expand on some things and have very little deviations. Instead of getting a remake, we got an Advent Children sequel. This game is gonna get as convoluted as KH became.

I don’t have a problem with creating something new from established lore, but it needs to make sense on a storytelling level. I invested years of my life into GoT thinking that the ending would be worth it, but was brutally disappointed with what we got. Given the KH rep, I’m going to wait until they’re done with the story to decide if I should invest more of my time in this. Their rep has preceded them and I’m not confident they can pull it off.

im fine with the ending, what im not ok with is how they ruined the main plot twist of the game with cloud saying "i remember killing you" to sephiroth and hojo saying "my boy, you aren't a soldier" like, wtf? i just finished the whole og in the span of 4 days after loving the remake and i can see why people are so upset. either way, ff7 is the best game i've ever played

I wasn't happy with Aerith knowing future shit because everyone has always been oblivious to everything except for Cloud, he has always had that kind of connection to Sephiroth and everything about that in the remake sounded forced...that's what I hate. Why would Aerith say "he's the real enemy and he must be stopped"...bish I know that already, as if Cloud didn't know that already when he killed his mother and he apparently knows that he killed Sephi too, as if Barret didn't know that already, when Sephi fucking put a sword in his guts and unleashed a freaking alien. Now you probably know the lifestream sequence and what you said exactly ruins that moment. How are people gonna react with Tifa going through Cloud's mind and seeing those moments? I hope they control the spoiler spam button, in the future parts.

@@laurajanco2i apparently, cloud isn't sure that he killed sephiroth. in japanese, he doesn't actually finish that sentence and cuts himself off. in english, you can kind of hear him gasp before he finishes saying it, which makes it seem like he can't really remember clearly what happened. same thing happened with the hojo line, in japanese he never actually finished saying that line, so i gotta blame the localization team for that one. although, considering you're meant to play remake after ff7, it isn't exactly a spoiler to the player who already knows that cloud wasn't a soldier, and the party didn't seem to realize what hojo meant by that anyways. as for that aerith line, yea that is kind of obvious of her to say lmao. i guess she just wanted them to focus more on sephiroth rather than shinra. personally, i find aerith knowing some stuff about the og ff7 timeline pretty interesting

@@PenguinsAreColdish I heard about that thing...that is why I think the Englsih localization sucks. Even Sephiroth's lines, that in Japanese have so much more weight and impact to them, in the localization are instead weird, overly cryptic to make them sound good and interesting, but get the total opposite effect. Though you're meant to play it after, there are gonna be a lot of people who play it for the first time. And I saw a lot of streamers, who don't actually plan to play ff7 until they finish the remake (it's weird, but maybe it's to compare the games after).

There's a lot of fans both shitting on the ending, and completely 100% embracing it. Some are tentative, some are hopeful. I think I lie somewhere in the middle. I'm glad they're taking the game in new directions, but it would have been nice to not be mislead into thinking this was going to be a replacement for FF7, instead this is a meta-sequel or companion piece. I'm not hopeful Nomura and team will make a story that feels as tight and compact as the original. I don't think it'll pay off well but time will tell of that. What irritates me are the apologetic fans saying how the Remake is better in every conceivable way. The original has it's place too. Simply casting it away for "better" graphics, and louder orchestrations of what we heard before. I like the synths more, so the music underwhelmed me. Alot of the original themes, like Barret's song is completely wiped away from the Sector 7 town in favor of the overworld music! (Which was reserved for when you left Midgar, and felt like this big musical climax opening up.) The paintings and designs have more color and pop in the original. A lot of the designs are muted in the remake with additional Nomura belts all over. Some of the concepts Amano did do have Cloud in pure black, but the game hardcore made me want purple cloud. The fighting scenes and particles are the best Square Enix has ever done. The menus and sounds feel amazing. The nod to the save files with the benches are things that feel high quality to me. Not time padded side missions or the creepy ass uncanny valley kids ahaha. I think if the whole series releases, the big things for me that would help a lot: - Bring in the original OST as an optional alternate music for the game - Alternate costumes for the characters kinda nodding on the older designs - Rename the later titles into something else to imply the series as a new game from FF7 - Cut off the padding or modify it to give it diff rewards It's not much but these details make a big difference for me, personally. Do you agree?

@@Onebie I think as a standalone it's around a 7/10. I think it was not okay if they plan to use this as a replacement piece for FF7. If the padding were cut the overall feeling would be a 9/10. Tight gameplay and Japanese voice acting is... Dare I say, pretty good? It makes the characters feel more concise in tone over the elaborated English stuff. "Ganbare" becomes translated to "Wish you well on the mission!" Instead of like "Good luck!", etc. If this were compared to FF7, or a replacement piece, I'd feel unsatisfied with a 4/10. If they don't release the full game, or if they do a bad job with the sequels, that's what this immense build up will feel like to me. A build up to a flop. Square has to pay off if they're making so much set up. It wouldn't be fair to anyone to prologue the wait for the full series too long, just imho.

@@Onebie Also as a side note, I appreciate you're not rushing to the game's defense saying every decision was intentional / flawless. The original isn't flawless either, but I think the intent of the game was a lot clearer, and I don't think it's nostalgia goggles speaking through that. However, the menus, some of the lighting in Cloud during the day really showcases his deeper colors, and it makes me appreciate how he varies in the shading and tone to feel like a combo of Tetsuya Nomura's Art with Amano's more withdrawn Hair and gestural black tones. I thought the game was disregarding Cloud's design, but I have to retract that and say the modelers did a pretty decent job of him (Would do nice without the double belts though, but alas, modern Nomura and his love for belts.) Sorry for geeking out so hard. I'm a game developer that graduated from CalArts in Character Animation, I think about these elements deeply and what they mean to me :).

Also lets not forget releasing the game in 3 parts so you have to buy the same game 3 times to get the whole story. Part 1 was on Ps4 and ported Ps5, Part to will be PS5 only and part 3 will be PS6. FF7 remake was a fun game but it was not FF7 it was something.
