Copy of Dr Berg notes: If you’re consistently getting less than 6 hours of sleep, you increase your risk of premature death, cancer, diabetes, dementia, and more! Sleep is the best way to clean the brain of damaged proteins, but this only occurs when you get real sleep. Sleep medication can sedate you but will not enhance your sleep quality. Alcohol significantly decreases sleep quality, causing snoring, sleep apnea, and tossing and turning. Sleep is essential for repairing and restoring the entire body, especially the immune system. Without sleep, the immune system shuts down, leaving you vulnerable to infection. REM sleep supports parts of the brain involved in creativity, memory, and problem-solving. It improves social interaction, emotional stability, empathy, and your mood throughout the day. Most repair occurs during non-REM sleep, also known as deep or delta-wave sleep. As you age, non-REM delta wave sleep decreases significantly. Delta wave sleep is vital for fat burning, cell repair, and cell regeneration. It’s also when your body fights infections most effectively. To improve your sleep quality, try the following restful sleep tips: •Avoid alcohol •Drink kombucha tea •Exercise regularly •Avoid eating too late •Avoid eating too much protein •Sleep in a cool, dark room •Avoid too much caffeine •Avoid excessive blue light •Turn lights off a few hours before bed •Get plenty of sun during the day •Go to bed when you’re tired •Avoid stimulating shows/movies before bed Magnesium, vitamin D, and zinc are the most important nutrients for sleep. L. reuteri is a microbe that can help boost oxytocin and serotonin and improve sleep. Sodium is also vital for restful sleep. Thank you Dr Berg! 😺👍

Everyone has different sleeping patterns. Some people are diurnal and others nocturnal. Some sleep 8 hours in a row and others like me wake up between 2-3am, do some chores, then go back to sleep around 5am or whenever I'm tired... truly tired... this makes perfect sense because because we're not designed to sleep 8 hours in a row, work 8 hours, and so on. We're not robots like societal programming dictates. I think as long as you don't feel dead tired during the day or whenever you have the majority of your responsibilities, then it's perfectly natural... also it's healthy to take naps!

Making a meaningful change to my diet two years ago was a god send! Not only did I defeat clinical diabetes, fatty liver and high triglycerides, but I felt renewed almost immediately. I started sleeping well! The chronic congestion in my sinuses was the first inflammation to go away. Curing my sleep apnea! I started taking magnesium glycinate before bedtime and that helped with restless legs and leg cramps. Adding vitamin B1 A few months ago helped me fall back asleep at 2am, but it seemed to stop working when the stress of my mother dying got to me. I have trouble getting to bed at a decent hour, but when I do (like last night at 10:30) my HRV is much higher upon waking in the morning when checking it before getting out of bed. It’s no fluke either as this has been my experience for years. God bless

That's interesting because a lady advertises help for eyesight problems and I used to get her emails to sign up for $ - can't remember cost. I didn't sign up because I understood that her course was based on counselling & psychology of self-love & compassion etc which resulted in general healing & improvement of vision . I think her advert was aimed at anyone who wore glasses as opposed to people with macular degeneration etc

If you love your caffeine like I do, NOT taking any within seven hours of the time you'll be going to bed helps A LOT. For example, I go to bed at 10:15 pm everyday. So my LAST dose of caffeine will be at around 3pm . Then by the time 10:15 rolls around, I'm ready to sleep. It works great! I do two doses of caffeine everyday, 7 am and as I said, 3pm . Having a routine like that helps. Your body likes routines.

I had to do an overnight sleep study. Since I was a child. I was always awake all night. Never got tired. But mornings were a nightmare for me. They diagnosed me with E.D.S. (excessive daytime sleepiness), a form of narcolepsy. Also, I get to REM sleep in less then 3 minutes. I actually enjoy both...

After watching Dr. Berg's videos on the benefits of magnesium I decided I should taking magnesium pills. I noticed that taking magnesium makes me fall asleep fast, I get a deep sleep and I feel well rested when I wake up in the morning. It's amazing how fast it kicks in. I take other supplements that Dr. Berg suggest but magnesium is the one that stands out for sleeping. I do take D3, B12, K2/K3, nattokaneese (spell) and a few other, but magnesium amazingly makes me sleep fast. I also wear blue blocker glasses at night. Thank you Dr. Berg!

I don't adhere to a 'one size fits all' approach to sleep. My Mom is 99yo and never got 8 hrs. of sleep her whole life, she gets maybe 4-6 hrs. She was strong and mentally clear up to about 2 yrs. ago, and really isn't that bad now. How many of us can even dream of living that long? I'm 68 and I don't know how I'm supposed to get quality sleep when I have to get up to pee a few times a night, even if I restrict my water intake which is obviously not good either. I eat well and exercise and don't worry about it.

I struggle really bad with my sleep schedule. I’m a first responder who swaps from days to nights, and when I work nights, I’m lucky if I get 6 hours of sleep. I usually sleep for about 3-4 hours, wake up on my own, and then try to fall back asleep, and hopefully get another hour or two. I’m always tired, but I can’t seem to stay asleep.

I suffered from insomnia and having a terribly inconsistent sleep cycle as well as something called night eating syndrome (basically sleep walking to the fridge) for like 20+ years. My sleep was allover the place and it had a very negative impact on my ability to get things done or be on time, even show up for things at all. Nothing I tried ever helped even a little. Certainly not taking melatonin. Then about 2 months ago, I decided to buy some blue light blocking shades and start using the "night shade" setting on all my devices such as my laptop and tablet. I had heard of the glasses but didn't take it seriously until I read a bit about the effect that blue light has on sleep. I began wearing them right about when the sun went down and leaving my curtains open when I go to bed. I started sleeping 6-8 hours a night, straight through the night ever since. No more sleep walking to the fridge for the most part either, although that still can be somewhat of an issue if I end up taking even a short nap during the day. It's quite a strange eating/sleep disorder considering that I'm someone who actually has very good self control during the day while I'm awake. I've managed to lose about 80 pounds and reverse type 2 diabetes without medication, largely due to Dr. Berg's diet advice despite the fact that I used to eat in my sleep every single night. It's really unbelievable how much this has helped me and it helped immediately. I strongly suggest that anyone with sleep issues like mine give this a try.

I once had a nerv condition that didnt let me sleep for 5 days. After the 5th day awake I had auditory hallucinations. Basically my washing machine was talking to me, or anything that "makes a sound" sounded like it tries to communicate with me. That was weird, but luckily I was aware that it is only a hallucination due to insomnia, still I dont know why that occured and how that phenomenon actually works. I guess my brain heard something and tried to automatically interpret it as words... or something like that.

I work in the fire service and am chronically sleep deprived. I am towards the end of my career and wonder about what is happening to my health as a result of my years of working 24 hour shifts. I have to make a conscious effort to get enough sleep when I’m not working. As mentioned, alcohol, I have avoided drinking on many occasions because I have learned that it completely disrupts my sleep. I definitely can attest that sleep is probably the most important thing for good health.

My brother hardly slept properly. He sometimes slept in the back of his van working as a security guard. Sometimes he would work a twelve hour shift and after that the firm would ask him to work at another site. He used to average around four or six hours sleep. It was not unusual for him to work sixteen or eighteen hours shifts! Around twelve or so years ago he collapsed at work. Now he can't move because he's in the advanced stage of multiple sclerosis. I visit him with his medication and we watch movies or listen to music. He's fed by a tube that pumps liquid food directly into his stomach. But I believe that because he always worked and didn't sleep properly it brought on the Multiple sclerosis. All night workers or shift workers must have better hours and rest periods because that type of work is life limiting. But there's a contract called a'waver' which is an opt out clause and security pays very low wages ( especially for night workers)
