I’m 53 and weighed 185 lbs, all of it around my abdomen. I was having hot flashes, night sweats, dizziness, mood swings, sleep issues, irritability, and bouts with anxiety. Last May I was fed up with those symptoms and decided to try keto and intermittent fasting. It has certainly been a journey with a lot of course corrections, but I am now 150 lbs and feel so good! I have eliminated all the symptoms and am determined this is the lifestyle for me. I’m in maintenance for a bit right now, but am now starting to add exercise to get stronger. The main thing is not the weight loss for me … I never want to feel the way I did before.

@@samsamthecat492 During the day, I like to eat the same thing every day, then eat a healthy low carb dinner. This allows me to have a general idea of my caloric intake every day. When I was loosing weight 5 years ago I didn’t know about Intermittent Fasting. Ate breakfast at 10:30, 2 eggs and half whole wheat English muffin with little butter; at around 3pm had a yogurt and green apple. For dinner have some sort of meat, 2 vegetables and a salad. My husband is Italian so we do have a whole wheat pasta dish about once a week. During Covid got a pasta maker, make my own pasta now. Now I do intermittent Fasting, varying the time from 16 to 22 hours. Since my first meal is now in the afternoon, I don’t feel like eating fried eggs, so I have a couple hard boiled instead, then some cottage cheese and indulge with a small measured amount of popcorn, then normal dinner. I also exercise every day, currently do an hour on an elliptical occasionally swapping with walking , also do weights 3 times a week for bone health.

Not anymore. I've even gained more weight! This video makes sense and I dont understand why more doctors dont tell you the truth! They want to push HRT. I started estradiol 2 months ago and Im sleeping better but the weight is not coming off. I've wanted to pull my hair out and never felt so awful and less sexy in my life. If you are past menopause… high intensity for short periods of time only! When you are older cortisol will Jack you up if you do cardio for more than 10 minutes. Cortisol (from stress) causes the insulin response and insulin stores fat. Most people don’t understand that fat loss happens with metabolic hormone control… not with long exercises.

@@FoodiesFoodLifeI do cardio for 15-30. I'm 54, had years of menopause hell, and despite working as an athletic trainer for 30 years I was a train wreck. Once I focused on water, fiber, getting all three macros in fresh, home cooked meals, ample sleep and rest, and took workouts down to 30 minutes or less, I lost the weight that ballooned up on me and reversed the problems. I'd been working out like an athlete since. High school, so 30 minutes is very short and easy to me.

My obgyn and hemotologist both said no hormone therapy. Since March of 2023 I've gained a lot of weight and that was due to a fracture in my back, so I couldn't even get out of bed. And so I couldn't walk or do my Yoga the pain was excruciating!! It seems like I gained it all in my belly. I'm now healed up and can now start Yoga and I'm doing Semaglutide to loose at least the 40 lbs I put on from March 2023 to now. I’m in menopause, 7years in, and on HRT. Evorel Conti 100mg. Started on 50mg, then 75mg, now 100mg. I find low carb eating and doing HIIT (high intensity interval training 1min on, 1min off, or 2min on, 2min off etc for a 20min workout ) and weight bearing exercise is beneficial more than cardio. You get a bit of cardio from weight training anyway. Also do stretching Yoga and Pilates moves too, and I dance to disco music on my rebounder! Eating protein and healthy fats and concentrating on toning muscle as muscle is metabolic, is beneficial as it burns calories. I was never overweight in my life until menopause.

This is valuable particularly for women like me who have worked out for years. In the last 6 months I’ve gained 15 lbs all from stress. I worked out like a beast and for years my body looked great. Out of nowhere the weight gain started. Took a month off and weight kept coming…I decided to switch up my workouts. note: I am a powerlifter. I now go no higher than 20lbs on free weights and 45 lbs on the machine. I do 10 mins of brisk cardio per workout at 4 times a week. I always did intermittent fasting so that wasn’t a problem. I have lost 4 lbs in the last week. I shortened my workout to no more than 45 mins. I do some sort of ab exercise in my workout. My stomach and waist have come down. I am not heavy or fat, I’m very muscular but that 15lbs was a huge red flag. I also realize that it doesn’t take much to tone up. You don’t need heavy weights. Low weight high reps work perfectly. My one takeaway was to rest more between sets which I rarely do. We have been taught to keep that heart rate up which is still true but it’s the length of time that makes the difference. Thank you so much Dr. Berg!

Hi, I noticed recently that low weight, high reps for just 20 min 6 times a week plus sometimes with additional 20 min rebounding (not every day) really stresses me much less than 3 workouts with heavy weight, the result is that I am losing my belly, I use kettlebells at home, I have the 10kg, I wanted to buy the 16kg because I can but I decided I could still use the 10kg and do much more reps, I will keep using it for now. My point is less stress before exercising because I know I don't have to do heavy weights, less stress while I exercises because I know it's not going to be long workouts so maybe that is the way... I don't know but good luck to everyone here and thanks for sharing your experiences 😊🙏

At 72, and long past menopause I weigh 112lbs. at 5’2”. No health problems or prescription meds. Take vitamins and supplements . Once a year visit to doctor. Eat clean and two meals daily. No alcohol. Strength and cardio classes 6 days weekly. Very fit, very strong. All bodily systems work great, including sexual functioning. Heart age is 39 after cardiac scan to check for any arterial plaque buildup. Zero plaque. Want to live long? Takes discipline and daily attention. I have bragging rights because I am in a very small minority of women my age who are in the physical condition and health status that I enjoy.

I can by experience, tell you that this advice is so accurate. I was diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer and given 8 weeks to live, I actually beat it and I wont go into the details of that, but in the aftermath my body was just so broken. I was a runner and weightlifter prior to this so I knew it was all about the load that my central nervous system could handle each day. So I started with a 5 min walk and had 2 days recovery (thats how bad it was). Over 4 years I built up to being able to train in zone 2/3 for 2 hours (I love trail running) 3 days a week. I also, via some intermittent fasting and zone 2 training adapted my body to metabolise fat during these low heart rate zone workouts (very handy! lol) I can also weight train again, and I am building this up slowly, and once I hit the target for that specific workout, the workout is over. I figure, my CNS got the trigger for the adaption, so I go right into recovery mode. As part of the medical side of things I has a full hystorectomy and overnight the shock of having no ovaries (on top of everything else) really hit my system. However by doing little bits of training and then recovering properly made me feel so much better. I think that prioritising peace, good eating habits and prioritizing recovery in order for the adaptions to take place is a great investment in our health. It took 4 years to get to this point via consistent work and consistent rest, and I have learnt this: Slower is Faster. In terms of fat loss, this is a stress on the human body, so be gentle. Dont look at all the lies on social media of people saying "I lost 2 kg per week blah blah blah". Its not sustainable, messes with metabolism, increases cortisol etc. Walking and making a nutrition plan and throwing in some more challenging workouts here and there in a sustainable way is a much healthier long term strategy. If you have to start with a 5 min walk like i did, there is nothing wrong with that. It only gets better!

@@simonaca468 Hi! I am for around 70-100 grams of protein per day. The foods I eat are from the following: Nuts, beans, legumes, seeds, a lot of veggies - esp the green ones like spinach, broccoli, kale etc.I use potato and sweet potato lots. I really like fruit especially berries and watermelon. I use olive oil and coconut oil in cooking/baking. I dont have any processed foods. Im actually plant based so I supplement with Vit12, Calcium, Iron and Iodine. To meet the protein needs I have tofu/Tempeh and I have a protein powder in shakes with berries and banana. I really love kimchi! I think that prioritising protein and then having lots of vegetables etc is a great general direction to go in. I do have to plan ahead but I like cooking so its fun. For snacks I like oat bars- they r really simple to bake. I made a soup yesterday that has: sweet potato, brocolli, green peas, chic peas leek and garlic. So yum! For fat loss I eat the same things but make a calorie deficit. But not a large one. Just a gentle 300-400 one. I think if i do more than that I feel stressed. So, slower is faster. When its a weight lifting day or big running day I try to get the 100g protein and add in more fats like walnuts or peanut butter. But Thursday is Apple Pie day! The farm I get all the veggies from has a cafe and make this epic apple pie and a great latte. So I smash that happily! YumYum Yum!

There's a continual creep up the scales . Also, an immediate loss of strength and stamina. That was so horrible as I had a job and family , house and garden to manage . I'm going to look into adrenal support now . Hope you're feeling more in control after watching Dr. Berg ? I know I am

I feel doctors put us all under one big menopause umbrella, and that's just not how it is in real life, especially those with endo and adhesion pain. We're all different. But anyway, I've watched so many Dr Berg videos, he explains everything so well.

I was going to the gym 3 days a week doing all the machines. I have dysautonmia and the machine workouts really help my PVCs and BP stability. My cortisol levels are sky high now. I'm sure it's because of the weights and hour long workouts. I'm trying hard to get myself calmed but my muscles particularly in the LE need the weight bearing excersises. This is a challenge getting this cortisol down. I'm sensitive to nightshades so ashwaganda is not for me. Rest meditation and timing the excersise helps. I've never felt this way ever and I've had adrenal fatigue for most of my middle years.

Anxiety, which I have NEVER had before. I eat about 2 pm and then am full and have no appetite until the next day. My specialist tried me on metformin to lose the fat. Made me sick. Speaking as a real woman who is over 55, there are several ways you can lose weight, from head to toes. My experience. Eat enough to fuel your body. So that may differ because we are all unique. Walk every day. Stop adding tons of sugar to your coffee/teas. I stopped adding sugar to my coffee, years ago. Stop eating at night. Drink less alcohol. Don't be a couch potato. Stop watching so much tv. Be more active!!! Do lower pelvic exercises ON THE FLOOR! The floor is my best friend. I no longer have high blood pressure as a by-product of the changes i have made. I didnt get fat around the middle until I lost the progesterone & the estrogen. The day the egg basket shuts off you lose 100% of your progesterone and 80% of your estrogen. If your adrenal glands are still working you still have testosterone, that's why you grow facial hair, hairy arms, shriveled stuff, dry stuff. The Progesterone comes from the release of the egg. No eggs, no release. It happened in One Day! I had no sleep. Night Lakes soaking 2 King Size Pillows. My body went into fast motion and started killing me! Truth! Good Lord. I weighed 112 when it happened one day. I had tons of testosterone. People go to work. People just try to live, get sleep go back to work. Sleep all day? Ha. I froze 5 One Gallon Freezer Bags with half water & half ice and packed myself in them in bed each night...after 5 years of this. HRT I got figured out. My Mom took Estradiol shots every month from age 38 to her late 60s and only switched to Premarin because the doctors said the other was dangerous which is what the pharmeceutical companies want. In her 80's her testosterone had dropped so they put her on Estrotest. She lived to 96 on HRT. 38-96 on HRT. I couldnt keep up with her. This is Awful.

Up until menopause low fat diet is what we have been told for decades, and it works for many people, younger people, and younger women, but for us menopausal women, it’s the opposite now - keto or the easier version - low carb - is what shifts the weight. We often become insulin resistant at menopause, and muscles deplete and waste away if we don’t do weight training to keep them. Muscle is metabolic, that means it burns calories. When you eat keto/low carb, your body shifts over to burn fat for energy, as there are less carbs for it to burn through. Once your body gets through the carb energy first, it goes to its second energy source, fat. Then you lose fat weight, hurrah, that’s what we want 🎉

@@ninawildr4207 as an edit an update: carnivore is only good short term. Most people who benefit from carnivore (getting rid of the aches and pains) are really just detoxing their systems from oxalate overload. Ive started my journey realizing oxalates were causing my pains and issues. Started detoxing with carnivore but realized that in menopause I needed more vitamin C and B and potassium...I've settled into a routine and even have begun to lose some of the menopause weight as well as clearing the pain and dizziness...which mimics MS. Menopause is a hard road. Estrogen affects the elasticity of your entire circulatory muscle and tendon systems...

Are you using supplements for the vitamin deficiency or eating certain foods? I went carnivore and it hasn’t really helped - 90 days in. I’m 52 not sure if I’m peri or post (I have gone to a hormone dr who had me on estrodial, progesterone, DHEA, testosterone…the estrodial was the worst experience ever.). I’m at the point of what the heck do I do? Can’t sleep, body aches, zero emotional ability to connect. I feel blah all the time. I really want carnivore to work….i has great success on a Whole Foods plant based way of eating. I miss fruits & veggies, and was never really a meat eater. Any thoughts/suggestions are greatly appreciated 😊

@bloochoob Жыл бұрын
@@nickiemartin5614 Carnivore is very extreme and keto is still quite hard to sustain for a long time, especially if you want to eat out or on the go. They’re both ok for a jump start but I do low carb which is much more manageable and sustainable for long term, and I stick to 90-100g carb a day. I never go over 100g. I still have a bit of bread and eat daily veg and fruit, berries like raspberries and blueberries are lowest carb, potatoes are quite high carb but as long as you count carbs you could have a small scoop of buttery mash or half a baked potato with cheese and chilli etc. I eat more greens. Carrots are high carb, so just a small portion. I count the carbs! So just count the carbs, having some is fine. Low carb doesn’t mean no carb. Getting your macros inline is a good idea. Your macros are made up of three food things, protein, carbs and fat. We want to eat low carb, as low fat doesn’t work for us menopausal women. It did when we were younger, but now our hormones are the opposite, so our diet has to change too! Look up free macro calculator online, that will help get your percentage right. Go to docs and get your HbA1c blood test done, the all rounder blood test for many things. Ask to print it out. You could be prediabetic or type 2 diabetic which comes along with menopause (it did for me) you could also have under-active thyroid. I take a multi vitamin and multi mineral and a few other supplements for joints like glucosamine, cherry, rosehip, curcumin, and I notice if I don’t get enough water, my joints ache more, so I try to drink more, I like mint tea hot or cold, a bit better than plain water. I also use Apple cider vinegar, that has many benefits, look it up, see if you want to try it.

I have ALWAYS had a flat stomach up until 2 years ago when stress levels skyrocketed whilst going through perimenopause (4 years and still counting 😠). Every day I wake up bloated, sometimes painful. And when my stress levels increase, so does my stomach. I could fast for days and it wouldn’t flatten out! It’s creating a lot of self conscious anxiety too which only makes it worse! I’m convinced my nervous system is disregulated and I need to start looking into where to start to get it back to “rest and digest”. This video is right on time!

HIIT is really good, true. Just one thing concerning “jogging“ => most people exercise on a pulse that is too high because their oxygen-threshold is so low. My pulse threshold for 5 min sustained running is at 170-175. If I exercise at around 125-135 pulse that feels relaxing to me. If I go for a 10 km run and aim at 150-160 continuous pulse that wrecks my sleep because my heart feels jumpy. So, the distance to the sustained pulse rate is important in strengthening the parasympathetic nervous system. Feeling relaxed while exercising moderately over an hour or two can be beneficial, too!

This sounds similar to zone 2 workouts. I need to get a watch that measures my heart rate when I do this exercise. I really enjoy it but it’s hard to go so slow and it will be easier to stay in the right range if I’m actually measuring the heart rate! I strictly breath through my nose which helps to keep me slower!

I've been "sick" for over a decade. I'm 39 years old. I lost no weight on keto after 5 months other than the initial water weight. I have lived on omad or 2 meals a day most of my life. I had a job walking 30,000 steps a day. I was still unable to lose weight without killing myself working out at home. I usually take long breaks between rounds and sets because I have always needed to, and notice absolutely no difference (other than wanting to die from exhaustion) when I don't take long rests. 3 years ago I started jogging with my kids because I was homeschooling because of covid. My activity went up, and my diet didn't change. I gained 20lbs in a month. It was NOT muscle.... very clearly it was FAT. I was so stumped by this for 2 years. Recently my research brought me to cushings. I think it's extremely underdiagnosed based on the Facebook groups and research I've seen. Getting doctors that actually know how to test for it and will is so much work.

We did a study in the late 1990s on fat distribution in peri and post menopausal women. We found one group of women, relatively well-off, who exercised at least once every day, dieted rigidly (also ran food diaries) whose greatest accumulation of fat was on the belly and just could not get rid of it. The one thing these women had in common, and which distinguished them from others in the study, was that they had been children in the UK and Europe towards the end of WWII and the early post-war years of food rationing - so, chronically stressed and probably underfed

This lasted for 4 months, and I lost nothing despite dripping sweat at the gym and working out at home. Then, I started keto and intermittent fasting but haven't done any exercise and the weight is dropping from the belly. I am on week 3 and will start incorporating walking and light weights this week. I'm going to try the supplements. I think this will finally be successful. I am 43.
