Something magical about a 600-4 revving its nuts of with a race can. When I had a ZX-6R my wife could sit in the garden and hear me from when I turned on to the road to our village 6 km away, 3 km of easy curves,2nd & 3rd gear. A big left then straight home 4th & 5th spanking the rev limiter. 150 mph on a country road with overhanging trees felt like being fired down a rabbit hole. Why you may ask ? Well because I could & she would know when to open my beer !.

Most of me apart from my ageing spine miss that bike (it was a divorce present to myself) but alas in my 50th year I had to admit defeat and buy a sensible & comfortable scoot and there was really only one thing out there for me, Triumph Street Triple.

Russ, hell ya man! That is so romantic lol. I just got me 13' street Trip. 675 and that bike is my favorite one to date. Put a Scorpion can on it and it sounds sooo nice. ;). Cheers M8T.

Oh my Lord that was entertaining. I would kill for you guys to do a whole series on sidecar racing - there's so much to it that most people don't realize, the teamwork and just how much the passenger does for the bike. The thought of you two having a go as a team, that would be fucking gold
@vpweber6 жыл бұрын
Jon Sands Totally agree!! Often wondered why the sport is so unappreciated... Insane levels of trust and teamwork, just incredible! The term "passenger" is highly demeaning, those athletes are amazing.
@vpweber6 жыл бұрын
To clarify, the term passenger doesn't do them justice, they should be called acrobats or or magical shifting centres of gravity, lol

In 1986-87 I used to be a passenger in a sidecar racing with a professional driver in races. When I was 14,15 years old. You have to climb around, and anticipate every corner. Don't forget to hold on. Yes is a very adrenaline intensive ride for sure. The driver I was with was awesome. It was an incredible and amazingly scary experience, death defying. I know the sidecar I was in was not like this because of advancements in technology.

Well done and by just sitting in, it was the safest way to go for a first time, but as Tom said when you work the bike, eg. get over the back on right handers you would have found it less tiring because you are not fighting the g forces so much.

Absolutely brilliant job, guys. I took a taxi ride with Ben Holland on his F1 outfit at Brands. He also told me to tuck in and not move. The idea was out lap, hot lap and in lap but I stopped counting after lap 5. That was when Ben thought it would be funnier to keep lifting the third wheel at Graham Hill. By the end of the session, I reckon I could touch the ground without bending. When I applied for my ACU, I included passenger. Now all I need is someone to teach me properly.

I've tried this on a day here in OZ🇦🇺 at the old Oran Park race track. I was only 18 then and had goes on several different bikes. 😁 At some points I was leaning out scraping my hip on the track and even one bloke had it on 2 wheels on left handed and me leaning out as far as I could to bring it back down. I also almost fell off but not the back but the front as I had my arms crossed over each other at the time and my glove half off. My whole body was up in the air as he braked so hard and I thought I was about to go head over heels. But did that scare me? Hell no I loved the whole day. It's one of the best things I've ever done. 😁👍

@sidecarbod14416 жыл бұрын
I started on F2 then moved to F1 sidecars, I was the driver. We were always considered the scumbags of the paddock, in the end I got pushed up to a level that I just could not afford to run at and politics prevented me going back down to National level so I gave it up, I still miss it though. I run a 400 BHP Nitrous Oxide car on the road but it ain't a patch on sidecar racing! I'm glad that this vid has opened your eyes to what its like. :-) When Ben said 30%, that really was true, I could tell that he was just cruising around as far as he was concerned.
@georgebuller19142 жыл бұрын
@@sidecarbod1441 I have marshalled and raced and may I tell you, in my opinion, sidecar racers are NOT the scumbags of the paddock! Its just that 'normal(?!)' people don't understand why you do it - especially the passenger/monkey on the stick! ;-)

Loved every second of this, just wish had more to watch even if it was just looking at the outfit. From being part of the sidecar racing family at club level this was so funny to watch giving the tap after 2 laps.
