I breed Leopard geckos, at a small scale, and the amount of cash and learning I did BEFORE my first clutch took around A YEAR, and I'm 40 yrs old. Can people just casually breed? Yes. Should people casually breed? N0! - you got no idea how much I cringed while watching her "roll the eggs on her hand casually". Like, "Girl! Mark those eggs so at very least know what it's the top part!" - but according to her video, my impression was she litery kiIIed the rest of the eggs regardless of being fertile (and she just """incubated""" two).
@RedsReptiles02

100% agree, iv actually got my first clutch ever this year (and small scale as well just as a side hobby, not expecting to profit from this) but all over the internet people are starting to try and breed and just so so much wrong, alot of times i see people breeding leos with unknown genetics and it just makes we tense up cause A. those babies are never gonna find homes, and B. most times they are petstore geckos so those bad genes are gonna get passed down and have even more problems down the line from the inbreeding that happened prior, im all for people exploring breeding and such, just no one can be damned to research into it past maybe a single article which is worrying that people can just read that then pair their animals together ignorant as to what it does to the female and how it most times will shorten their life (even doing it right and not over breeding) and just everything wrong, there are enough leo mills in this world, so i feel that if someone wants to start they should be making a difference in breeder care, not the same or worse most times Edit:to add on no you shouldnt breed pets, BUT that doesnt mean treat your breeders like garbage and keep then in 9qts like alot of breeders (will always irk me, babies in a tub is fine but adults should never live in a tub forever) Like i have 1 who is a pet only then my 2 breeders, i set up my Breeder's enclosures just as well as my pet only in their 3ftx21/2ft enclosures, then of course move the female and male to a 20 long then separate the male and keep female in there till she is done so easier to monitor)

TBF, everyone culls eggs that aren't wanted. Even if they're fertile, there's no animal inside when they're laid, just some cells. Zoos, aquariums, sanctuaries, breeders, wildlife management programs all freeze, destroy, & discard eggs that shouldn't or can't be incubated.

If you’re looking to breed geckos, then do mourning geckos first. They are incredibly easy and will teach you a lot about raising baby geckos.
@TLR1
@TLR1 2 жыл бұрын
The problem with Mourning geckos is that you simply can not stop them from reproducing, once they are mature enough, they will just reproduce like crazy. Unfortunately because of their small size a lot of keepers think you can keep them in small (even tiny) enclosures where they cannot have a humidity or temperature gradient. Before you even consider getting MG's you really do need to have an action plan on what you are going to do with the excess that you will end up having. They are a cool and entertaining gecko to have, but their uncontrollable reproduction can lead to a lot of problems.

I must admit I was incredibly disappointed when I saw Jenny’s video months ago. I remember how she completely withdrew from KZbin or a long time for mental heath reasons and because she felt that the genetic alteration of different types of goldfish had become unethical and unhealthy for the fish and chose to no longer keep them. I agreed with her and completely respected that position. Why then go ahead and do something so careless with reptiles, breeding just for the sake of your own personal desires. The part that upset me the most, was not wanting to spend the money to do things correctly, of course doing this correctly would have meant not breeding her geckos at all.

I can't fully agree with the incubator thing. I breed gargoyle geckos on a small scale and I do always try to get all the eggs in my incubator as I do have a better sense of when they will be hatching, how the eggs are doing, etc. This season I had two surprise babies pop up inside my females enclosure. I have missed two eggs. Eitherway eggs can totally be incubated in an enclosure and a bit of fluctuation in temperature won't immediately hurt the eggs. If that was the case the wild would be overrun by malformed geckos. The real issue with incubating eggs in an enclosure is that a lot of geckos can be cannibalistic. It's risky for the babies and they don't have a lot of space to run away and hide in our terrariums at home. It was lazy of Jess to not buy or build an incubator and in my opinion she just did not think about what she was doing.
@claire8531
@claire8531 2 жыл бұрын
The difference between the wild and the enclosures we build for our reptiles is the wild is vast and has much larger variations in temperature, humidity, and terrain. In the wild, a gecko could seek out the proper place for their eggs. In an enclosure they are limited to what we have provided for them.

“So I’m going to give away both of ‘these’” lol she’s completely disconnected from her animals. Just throw her whole video away.

I'm very confused about her breeding them for the purpose of having a baby from her female for sentimental reasons, then later saying 2 adults is enough and she doesn't even want the babies.

imo it’s one thing if they breed and you keep them for yourself but attempting to sell a gecko that you have no idea about it’s genetics, potential health issues. one of the parents could have ES that hasn’t been noticed or come out. highly dangerous to do this either way

I tried breeding mine tonight, while the male was rattling his tail and getting closer to her. The female pushed him away many many times until they both just sat and did nothing for a good chunk of time. What should I do?

You shouldn't breed them at all.

Can an older male leopard gecko (13 year old) breed with younger females not trying to breed anytime soon or anything.

It's one thing to breed your own geckos, but then to do 0 percent preparation, post a video on it, then essentially abandon those geckos that didn't ask to be born to strangers... And let's not discount that doing a giveaway of live beings surely increased her views, likes, and comments... Just completely reckless and irresponsible. I've watched a few of her videos before, but never again. I really hope the backlash she receives makes her rethink her life choices. I hope the winners did much more research than she did.

This is why I have MOURNING GECKOS. I wouldn't risk breeding my Crested Geckos because my 2 females have never even laid eggs in their life and they are going on 5 years old. I am assuming this is because I had them since babies, and NEVER had them with a male. My male Crested Gecko is also very stunted, he's tiny compared to my females and going on 3 years old, so I keep his tank next to my Gargoyle Gecko so that way my females wont smell him, and he can't smell them. Mourning geckos are all females and just lay fertile eggs on their own without breeding. So that's why I have them. And even with them, it's hard to get babies. They will eat their own eggs or if the humidity is off etc so I have to a) find the eggs right after they are laid and b) keep them in a separate container and focus on keeping enough humidity and such. I have successfully hatched just 1 baby so far >.> I do have 2 eggs that are due to hatch in the next week or two though. And I have to keep the baby in her own tank away from the adults so she isn't eaten, so I do have quite a few tanks xD

As I know, a female leopard gecko can store sperm for up to a year. So what happen if I breed a female (A) with a male (B) and next time with another male (C). How to determine who is the father of the offsprings and their morph. I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you

Sorry, I usually agree with what you say, but you are criticizing someone based on what their audience may think, you have no statistics to backup what you claim, she is sharing her personal experience and said it was her first time doing it with limited research.
