What is LINE BREEDING | Leopard Geckos (Pt.1)
Hello Ladies and Gents! In today's video, we are going to discuss LINE BREEDING in leopard geckos! Line breeding, also known as "polygenic" breeding is when you take animals that have similar characteristics and pair them together in hopes to reproduce deeper levels of that desired trait. Examples of this include, Tangerines, Bold Stripes, and Black Nights.
We will discuss what aspects separate line breeding from mendelian genetics (the typical genetic breeding) and how to better understand what is going on to best produce the desired look you are going for.
Part 1 of this video covers examples of Mendelian genetics vs Polygenetic traits and helps you understand the differences using human genes that we are all familiar with such as eye color, hair color, skin color, and height.
Part 2 will show actual examples in our collection of line bred leopard geckos to show you varying levels of inheritance so you can better understand what to expect when line breeding your animals.
Feel free to check out some of our other videos and social media below, and of course, until next time, HAVE A GEEKY GECKO GREAT DAY!! =D =D

This is an awesome video. I use to breed fishes with e full dna testing to select for specific traits and line breed them. Project lasted 10yrs...which 2 main lines were developed. Love this video....quick question, Is dna testing available for leo gecko?

What happens when you pair a gecko who has polygenic trait and a gecko that has mendelian genetics EX: Bold stripe and snow. Would it be possible to produce a white gecko that has a bold stripes?
@GeekyGeckoCreations
@GeekyGeckoCreations 3 жыл бұрын
yes so there are SNOW Bold stripes, but there are not super snow bold stripes, u know why? because some mendelian traits dominate over the polygenetic ones, you can have snow and bold stripe, but 2 snow genes dominates all pattern in the gecko, does that make sense? :)

So dominate means that it is expressed over something. In all genetics both copies are usually expressed. So in dominate what that means is that it goes over the recessive even though both are expressed. So even though one trait is different it goes to the surface of the skin and expresses over the other gene even though both will be there. This is called a phenotype. Phenotypes is what is physically shown.

I really appreciate your very well explained videos, but here is a scientific mistake in it. The two strands of the double helix are not from father and mother. It is much more complicated: there is one chromosome ftom the father and onevfrom the mother, the homologous chromosomes, and each of these chromosomes consists of two single steands of DNA. Even more, each has another copy, which makes 4 strands. Still the video helps very well to understand polygenic genetics.
