Good info. In my case, I did what I thought was good research and due diligence. Took the truck to mechanic who did a very thorough inspection. Made the purchase largely based on his report. 6 months later, blown head gasket. It sure is best practice to invest in professional help before purchasing a truck and at the same time, luck is a huuuge factor as well.

Great advice, the main issue I have seen is many new owner-operators don't inform themselves about what to look for when buying a truck or trailer, as far as that goes. These guys and gals should have some idea of what to look for or be willing to have someone that is qualified and familiar with the equipment they're looking at.

I know one thing don't buy DEF trucks unless you want to waste tons of money. Those things also depreciate in value by the thousands in just a few years. Just saying what I learned working for a company that had them.

I learned a long time ago: A good truck inspection requires you taking things apart and looking deep. If your not a mech, you need to hire a good one and they are not cheap. last but not least, you cant be inexperienced for free.

Excellent information. A lot of hot shot drivers moving to big rigs should watch this video. South Georgia Hot Shot should have seen this video before he keep complaining about the problems in his Mack. On later model trucks check it out with a mechanic instead of DIY.

probably has all original parts at 600,000..at 400,000 if truck was well maintained prior and you buy it you can drive and fix as you go if there's no major issues...with volvo +mack its injectors ,egr,cooler and sensors thats the biggest deal..all volvo motors are notorious for #1 injector and cups to fail (hard start)....low turbo pressure as well ..what the driver needs to do is park truck work for someone else and save for repairs..it would get repaired quicker if he or she did the work there self..injectors cost 6-$7000 $3,500 for all 6 injectors plus labor...all the sensors and dpf cleaning is basic you just need tools WATCH alot of utube video and do research....if the volvo was badly neglected tires,shocks is the very least of your worries especially if its a northern truck. that ran salty snow its whole life....

Seems like this owner operator couldn't even do a pre- trip inspection, but wanted to become the boss. Attention drivers if you're currently working for someone or a company and the "boss" is not able to do a pre-trip by himself you need to get the fck out and get another job.

If you don't have enough sense to take the truck in for a REAL DOT inspection, before purchase, then you shouldn't be buying a truck.
