Successful attempt here: • HOW TO Change Spark Pl...
So this one didn't work out the way I hoped, I followed the Suzuki manual step by step for this one and it didn't say anything about how hard it is to remove the spark plug caps and plugs themselves.
Tools Needed;
10mm Socket
4mm allen/hex key
rags
small flat head screwdriver

Hey mate let me help you with this one! I did my spark plugs just the other day. For the outside spark plugs (1 & 4), you need to remove the outer frame bit (it is bolted on with two screws), when you take that off you can easily take the igniton coils out. Now to remove the actual spark plugs in the bike, you are going to need a few ratchet socket extenders to reach inside. If you need further help, just message me and I'll show you what you need. It is a royaly f***ed job to do without the right info or tools. Cheers, Josh

+JubaJosh See this is why I love KZbin :) I assumed that had to be the case but I thought the official Suzuki manual would say that lol. Thanks so much for commenting, I'm gonna try to pin this at the top of the comments for everyone to see

Hello guys, I have tried to remove my spark plugs yesterday. I confirm what JubaJosh said, if you don't remove the outer frame bit, it is impossible to remove the ignition coils. For the two center spark plugs, How did you do ? there are a lot of hose with the water pump and I don't know how I can remove the middles ignition coils then the spark plug :(

Hi mate, to be honest I haven't had a chance to try it again im afraid. I'm hoping to give it another go sometime over the next few months. A couple of people have confirmed what JubaJosh said though so I'm sure that's correct

There's a special tool included in the bike's tool bag from the manufacture. It's basically an extended socket on a swivel that has a rubber "gasket" inside that grabs the spark plug making the job a snap. Mine is a 2008... there's cutouts in the frame that allow the exterior coils packs pass with ease. 20min job tops!

Hi CJ. My 2009 GSX650F needs a service so, although I've got the Haynes manual for it, I had this gut feeling it wasn't going to be straight forward - particularly after recently trying to help a friend remove the plugs from his late '90's CBR600 and finding they were buried deep somewhere in the engine. Indeed we could have done with a treasure map rather than a Haynes manual! That having been said, I came onto KZbin only to find my worst fears being confirmed by your video. So . . thanks for putting this up - it has saved me a lot of time and wasted energy - and probably stopped me from kicking the s##t out of it (the bike) in frustration! Oh!, and a big thanks to Juba Josh for the extra help he provided. Haven't done the job yet, but I'm sure his advice will make access to the plugs a lot easier! All the best mate!

Thanks mate, definitely not a job for everyone. I nearly didn’t bother trying it again but decided to just give it another try... fortunately after about a day of it, I finally managed to change them and get everything back to normal. I have made another video on it if you did want to give it a try? kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXzQeWp3ibGle8k Thanks for commenting and good luck if you do :)

i just completed this task on the same bike. You have to unscrew the mount for the radiator cap assembly from the frame. Then you can remove the ignition coil by taking advantage of that intentional bend in the frame. Good luck, it was certainly an annoying job. I've just decided to convert my bike to a naked... EDIT: The bolt you need to unscrew is clearly seen as the only bolt in the frame at 5:37

My son in law just bought one that has the 2 spark plug hole buggered, and the fairing busted by a deer. He wants to do the UK naked bike theme . Any suggestions on where to go for that kinda of info will be appreciated. Cheers.

I changed mine on 1250 fa bit of work remove both side fairing s and left side bracket and right side bracket and loosen water pump bracket then your good to Go Long rachet bar and swivel on end rubber boot in plug remover so it doesn't drop back down use iridium they last longer so longer plug intervel inline 4s always a bit more work

thank for this ............shows me I am not the only one to struggle with something that should be very dimple ............... just trying to remove the spark plug out of my 1989 Suzuki GSX 750 just can not find a socket that will fit the spark or the space between the spark seat and the motor cover....... I am told to use a 16 mm socket , does not work , tried 15 mm, 16 mm , 17 mm , equivalent in Imperial nothing works just unbelievable .............does anyone knows what to use

you were so close... I watched this before. I started on mine... 2 minutes later I had the one -right side outer- plug you were stuck on out. the key to it is to firstly notice the purposely curved section in the frame directly above the plug cap... here is the secret ... you need to turn the plug cap 180 degrees for the proper alignment to the curve in the frame. left side out was the same but required the fairing mount piece to be removed. the 2 inner ones were even easier.
@CJMPH
@CJMPH 7 жыл бұрын
+Illy Mahn Thanks mate, I think I just got so annoyed after the first one that logic went out the window lol. Someone else said about that mount piece over the top..... it's so obvious it needed to be removed but I was fixed on following the Suzuki manual which seems to ignore that step that I just didn't do it lol... that will teach me :) thanks for commenting

Was there a resistance by pulling them out? Or what was the problem?
@CJMPH
@CJMPH 7 жыл бұрын
So the one on the left just didn't have enough space to lift out. It didn't help that I wasn't sure how big the caps covering the spark plugs were because I had this rubber cover around the top and sides (perhaps that was the cap??) that went right into the spark plug hole and there wasn't enough room above to pull it all the way out because the black frame was in the way. Then I tried to remove the 3rd one (from the left) and I couldn't even get my fingers around it enough to grip it to remove the cap or unscrew it. I think I will ask a Suzuki mechanic when I go to the shop next and see what they say :)

+DLzG yeah that's what I tried first but i don't know if there are 2 parts to the rubber seal but what I was pulling out was too big to get past the frame so it only got half way. I must have done something wrong and I'm sure I'll find out soon.... when I do, I'll post a complete video :)

Hey CJ :) I am about to change my backlight from my 2009 650F(A) i already got a LED but some LEDs are "broken" (or whatever :D they stay dark :D ) so i have to change it because of (in germany we call it *TÜV* :D) vehicle-test-certificate. i've never done that by myself. Not sure if this is easy or not... could you show me ?
@CJMPH

Hi iPhil, I bet the LED back light looks loads better too. I'll have to add that one to the list as well for the future. I'm guessing there is a bit more to it that just removing the back light cover as I know the front light isnt that easy to change :)
