Of course the company trying to sell their lenses will say nothing else works but replacement. To be fair, he did not show the proper way to use toothpaste on the glasses. Use regular white toothpaste like Colgate.You should never use cloth to wipe toothpaste off. Use some newspaper and take your time. Works great.

I found a pair of Oakley Holbrooks in the surf. The sand had seriously scratched the outside of the lenses. The reflective coating wasn't recoverable so I used already blunt 800 grit, wet n dry sand paper under running water to remove scratches and unfortunately the reflective coating. Then used autosol metal polish to reduce scratches from sanding, then baking soda/water solution to reduce scratches further. I finished off with a coat of turtle wax and they're now damn near perfect. The tint on the inside of the lense is in tact so they function fine as sunglasses, they're just not reflective on the outside 👍

I had a second attempt at it. This time I polished horizontally rather than swirls. Admittedly if I valued my time as an hourly rate it'd be cheaper to buy new lenses but they are now basically perfect. Took maybe 3-4 hours.

This was just a hack sales pitch. You used mirror-coated lenses so of course polishing is going to damage them. You used a heavy grit sandpaper- of course you can't see through that... use 1000-2000 grit then plastic or metal polish.

We used an extreme example to visibly illustrate the damage sandpaper will cause to lenses. No sandpaper at any level is safe to use on lenses. Even the finest sandpaper will still destroy the optical clarity of the lenses and impair your vision.

NOT Entirely true!!....while you can't "erase" scratches......there ARE chemical compounds to "touch-up" scratches to make them less visible, it depends on the color and style of lens you have. Do some research, there Are products that definitely work.
