We've had a couple of weeks of amazing weather here in western Norway, must be agony not having the bike finished yet. Said that, you have already managed to put in a couple of test rides. Keep on with the good job.

Think those fuel taps are made by OMG Italia. Possible the switchable tap you had already was meant for one side, outputting tte tge intake on you new tap. Otherwise the tap on one side part bypasses reserve.
@kihestad
@kihestad 7 ай бұрын
Exactly, they need to be in series, not parallel. I think the one that was on my bike was a wrong replacement from another model without crossover transfer line. Luckily I have a repair manual and complete parts list with exploded parts illustrated to figure out how it's meant to be 😊

@@kihestad, seems strange to have the screw type fuel tap on one side. Not like they are easy to use while riding! I have bikes with that style of tap, but hidden under the tank, with a pipe leading to a fuel tap mounted on the frame.
@kihestad
@kihestad 7 ай бұрын
@@katywalker8322 The screw type fuel tap on right hand side of the tank is supposed to stay open normally (at least that is what I believe). It just transfers fuel over to the next tap. Only to be closed if doing repairs and you need to take off the lines to remove the tank, or for long time storage.

You can buy Aspen classic vehicle fuel that's etanol free. Atleast it could be good to use when storing it for longer periods.

That's a good tips! I'll definitely find some low or best ethanol free gas to fill up before winter storage!
@juststeve5542
@juststeve5542 7 ай бұрын
You can remove the ethanol simply by mixing your petrol with water and then let it settle out. Ethanol likes water, petrol doesn't, so the ethanol free petrol ends up floating on the top. Mix 200ml of water with 1000ml of petrol, and you'll have much more than 200ml settle out at the bottom. I don't know if this removed anything else from the petrol though, so you might need an additive to sort it out completely.

Hey I think you might have something wrong about how the reserve works on the cagiva, If it's anything like how my 900 works, the hack still gives you the same reserve amount. There isn't a straw that goes up to pickup fuel, it just drains the left side, and then when you switch it to reserve you draw from the right side, and it shuts of the left side. You should try blowing into the output and turning the lever to see where the flow goes. So actually the hack allows it to keep draining the left side while you are using the reserve in case some fuel spills back. I'm actually considering doing the same hack on mine and fitting quick fuel connectors so I can take the tank of easier and avoid fuel spills.
@kihestad

The new main fuel tap I have bough (the one with both input and output, made for this model) works in this way: the input transfer line (from oposite side of the tank) is only open when fuel tap is set to reserve. In other words: When main fuel tap is set to "ON" it's only open using the straw going up on the side of the tank where the main fuel tap is. When main fuel tap is set to "RES" it drains the tank all the way for both sides, so thats when it opens the input transfer channel coming from the other side of the tank. It's very smart to be able to close both sides of the tank, you should be able to find it online - just Google search for ex: "ducati transfer fuel tap". Here is an example: www.corsasbk.com/product/58840051a/?v=c2f3f489a005

@@kihestad That is the same tap i have on mine, it's just that the main tap on mine doesn't have a straw and when it's switched to reserve it only draws from the reserve line. My main (Left) tap is original, and the reserve tap (right) is original to a later version of mine but it would originally have a lever type tap with a fuel level switch build in but it was removed because it break easily. Btw I'm in Denamark and I'm planning to take an adventure ride to Sweden on mine in Juli.

From my experience, there is not many problems with ethanol in gasoline on old carburator bikes if you adjust them, here in Brazil you can't buy any gasoline under 20% of ethanol mixture with the max being 32% now.
@kihestad
@kihestad 6 ай бұрын
I don't really notice any difference when driving it, I am afraid of the ethanol "eating" hoses and gaskets, and it attracts water and can cause condensation over time if the bike is not used for a while

@@kihestad only if you let it parked for more than 2 weeks, also i have a bottle of gasoline here that a bought last year and there is no sign of water inside it. We have a lot of old cars from the age of leaded gasoline (banned in 1989 here) with no damage due to ethanol and we had a lot of these cars converted to run on pure ethanol because it was cheaper and in some states it still is cheaper to run only ethanol. Many old bikes don't have problems beside the need to rejet the carburetor for the proportion, the C Gasoline is now at 32% Max and 20% min ethanol content but good luck finding gasoline with less than 30% ethanol, the premium one in fixed in 25%.

@C0lon0 yes, it is typically winter storage here in the Nordics that cause problems from what I have heard. Because of the cold weather and snow most of the winter we don't use our lawnmowers or motorcycles from October to Mars, and opposite for our snowblower 🥴 I think you might be right though, most of the times it works out ok, it's just some few that has been unlucky
@C0lon0
@C0lon0 6 ай бұрын
@@kihestad for winter storage if you don't find pure gasoline, just put water in the gasoline, mix it and wait a few minutes and the ethanol is mixed with the water. Here we don't have problem with storage because we dont have this need, where i live today is 10°C and is winter Sunday is to be lower to -1°C due to the cold front, luckly the floods ended.

E10 is Good, only an issue if you just use cheap basic rubber Oring/hoses, once you change to a proper fuel-compatible hose you will not have an issue with the ethanol. Going to a higher octane can be bad if the item is not tuned for it, modern EFI is great and can be tuned on the fly, but if I take my carbed bike up a mountain I have to adjust it as I go or it will be bad. There is no difference in the power of the fuel, but octane just changes the ability to pre-ignite. Had one of my bikes parked for 2 years with E10, and started straight away like it was ridden yesterday. Most items you can buy now are ethanol compatible, and if you just replace the few .c of lines you will not have an issue, plus ethanol takes the crap out of the tank more so if you never run them low.

@kihestad
@kihestad 7 ай бұрын
Nah, you got it backwards 😬😊 The screw type fuel tap on right hand side is open all the time, it's there just to be able to close it if you want to remove the tank or for long time storage over the winter. The main fuel tap on the left side is the only one I use, it blocks both sides when set to OFF. It's pretty smart actually, I know a friend with an old Honda CB350, the transfer line is just put on directly on the tank from one side to the other without any tap at at. Quite cumbersome when you need to remove the tank.
