i know that this is a "how NOT to make an animatic" but i think you gave me a tip for something to actually do next time i'm planning one. make the thumbnail sketches so tiny that you physically can't add any detail so you don't take super long only on the thumbnails. it's genius, it's brilliant, i wish i had thought of that before

I originally used to use lined notebook paper and make rectangles before drawing out the idea, but then I'd never finish anything because once in the program I'd try to put so many more details... only this year have I thought to just take a picture of each individual thumbnail and draw over it to keep it simple lmao

Oh boyy, I relate quite a bit to it. Personally, I completely skip the no. 2, "planning" part, I just dissociate while staring blindly onto the wall, replaying and repeating the same song over and over, trying out different outcomes in my head. This part takes me quite a long time, but after few months I have perfect version of the video I want to make. Also - this process can be done with multiple song, so my playlists is basicly movie series for me, at this point XD

From how long to plan for an animatic (that isn't a complete animation yet), to looking references at google and hope that the search engine can find what I'm looking for is just... *y e s* note to self (and probably people who relates to this): Remember to plan and not just think everything in your head because not planning results you to wonder on how to start you animation even though you can see it in your head (if that makes sense in anyway lol).

I felt the planning part so badly 😭 Sometimes your thoughts just get so messy, or you start making plans in 3 different places, because you write things down at the most random times and just use whatever's closeby Luckily the referencing got solved with 3d models now, there was this one time I took a reference pic of myself, holding an open umbrella in a low perspective, full-on loungewear looking like an absolute mess. Then when I was drawing the pic, a friend was watching it while I streamed it in a call, saw the ref pic in the background and was like "uuhhhh was that you?" Most awkward silence ever 😂😂

But because I recognise this so much, except I often get stuck on just listening to the songs and making a storyboard mentally - and then when I wanna write it out I get it all jumbled... But on the off-chance that I actually do manage to make a storyboard, it literally looks like you made it based on the one you showed here lol. I thought that was a sign that I wasn't doing good enough or wasn't motivated enough if I "couldn't even make the storyboard look good" or "professional" but seeing that this is also your starting point, and then how amazing your final product is makes me feel encouraged!
