FINALLY I'VE FOUND SOMEONE WHO I CAN RELATE MY HAIR TEXTURE WITH. Thank you for explaining to me why in the world when I wet my hair to style it.... it comes out dry, crispy, crunchy, hard and "no" sheen. Yes I have 4c hair and I've tried everything to have a two strand twist look, that ends up looking like an Afro that shrunk. Thank you ma'am for letting me know I wasn't going crazy. Water and my hair never got along. Lol

+deabell47 you are welcome!! You weren't going crazy 😜 our hair needs water for cleansing on the outside and it carries oxygen and nutrients in our bodies to our hair and other organs on the inside.

This makes perfect sense. I was just starting this wrong practice of moisturizing my hair by drenching it in water all day. Thanks for the info.

I'm so glad someone finally said this!!! I never understood why I had to use water all day everyday to keep my hair from drying out.

IDK...when you say water doesn't moisturize hair do you mean water alone doesn't moisturize hair? Because all the products you mentioned list water as the first ingredient. Also, when talking about skin the Am. Academy of Dermatology says "When your skin becomes dry, your body makes more oil. The extra oil can clog your pores, which may lead to more breakouts. The right moisturizer can prevent your skin from becoming dry and irritated. Applying a moisturizer after you wash helps to trap much-needed water in your skin." And when I look into this issue with hair, I find preety much the same thing. So A-American hair is prone to dryness, so we add the water to make/keep the hair supple then add the oil on top to slow the evaporation process.

Absolutely, water alone doesn’t moisturize the hair or skin. Also, water and oil mixtures doesn’t moisturize the hair. Oil is definitely not trapping the water in. So True, the skin becomes dry the sebaceous glands produces sebum (oil) for our skin which is the same skin on our scalp. Unfortunately, that oil doesn’t reach the ends of our strands depending on the length. So the scalp doesn’t need any extra help unless there is a disorder like eczema (dryer skin or dermatitis Oiler skin that causes break outs). The reason water is first on any product is because it’s cheaper to purchase than oil. There are products that have oil first and the products will me more expensive to purchase. Also, when you see water present in products you will also see alcohol present to keep down bacteria growth. Water carries bacteria which can also produce mold. The alcohol will act like a preservative and preserve the shelf life of the product. So when you think of hair and skin which are to different things, you need moisturizers with a lot of other additives than water in it to keep the hair soft. Water is needed for cleansing and hydration. Water shouldn’t not be used on African American hair like is has a Jerry Curl in it. That’s the only time the hair should be sprayed everyday. Our hair need Creme Moisturizers not water and oil mixtures. How many times have you taken a bath and when you have finished you sprayed water and oil on your body to lock in the water? It simply doesn’t make sense. The reason why most people on KZbin are doing this is because someone with natural without in background in Dermatology or Cosmetology with long hair said this is what they do. And someone decided to follow and that myth has been growing like a wild fire.
