I think it depends on how you choose to look at it. I think that "i love you no matter what" can be very positive. They probably know you are worried they won't love you or they will reject you. I think it can be said in a purely loving way. Everyone is different. Just my opinion though. Peace to you

When my son came out at 16, it took us way back and that’s normal. He was fine and felt good coming out and that’s the best outcome for the child. As a father I took it harder than I’d ever imagined. It’s easier when it’s someone else’s kid and I never understand why it’s so difficult to deal. It’s been a year and still getting used to it and how to communicate. He’s very PC about everything and that’s added another layer all the way around.

The whole "where do we go from here?" question is premise on the assumption that we have to do some sort of damage control or make a 'plan' or figure this 'problem' out, when in reality there is no problem, no 'damage' to be controlled and no one needs a 'plan' because nothing is different.
@LiveOnPurposeTV4 жыл бұрын
You are correct that nothing is different. Parents need to love their children no matter what, and even if, as I said before. Yet some parents are stumped; this information was not expected and they need to think about how to move forward with this new revelation. That is all I meant, not that there is a problem or any damage.

IMO, 'Destructive Pride' (I love that phrase!) is most destructive when the prideful person is aware that more likely than not, the person being told is working with much, much more information on the topic than the prideful person is. One needs to bear in mind the (presumed) intended audience for this vid. This vid is for a parents who live in a very homogenous environment in which (as far as they're aware) everybody is straight and probably looks like them as well. They've never had any reason to learn how to interact with people who are from walks of life that have little overlap with theirs. Any kind of difference is a shock. They probably have little factual information about anything 'gay' and think that because THEY have acquired new information about their kid, that means the kid has changed, when in reality there has been no change in the kid. Many otherwise rational adults react very negatively at even the idea of change. This video seems to me to be designed to keep parents from freaking out, assuring them the world is not ending, and keeping their mind open to accept new information.
