@@sitdownwithdakotah Respectfully Friend I hope you and ya moms relationship gets better, your story is common place in my family so no judgement their. but the only thing I would encourage is to unharden your heart and try an forgive your mother deep down inside their was no instruction manual to parenting and it wasn’t her fault you grew up in a single parent household, and last but not least I’m sorry that happened to you in college 🙏🏾 and Congrats on all your accomplishments 💪🏾 You transcended all obstacles and stigmas.

@@sitdownwithdakotah You ACCUSED your mother of being selfish, but your DISPLAY on that stage was the EPITOME of SELFISHNESS. Your mother was doing the best she could to APOLOGIZE to you, and you BASICALLY spit in her face for it. What you are ESSENTIALLY saying to her is, "IT'S MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY". Something to the AFFECT of, "YEAH, YOU CAN APOLOGIZE ALL YOU WANT, BUT YOU HAVEN'T KISSED MY A$$ YET". I don't care anything about you being gay. BE GAY, if that's what you want, but you didn't have to treat your mother that way, ESPECIALLY when she was TRYING to APOLOGIZE. You could have taken that APOLOGY and ASKED her if she could move toward understanding, while you would ALSO move toward understanding her position. You're like a PORCUPINE, you've got lots of good points, but your always sticking other people with them. YOU NEED TO GIVE YOUR MOTHER AS MUCH COMPASSION AS YOU WANT!!! I've got about three minutes left in this video. I SHUDDER to think what else I'll see.

@@christopherbarge414 The Bible is not God’s word. It is a perception made by man on God’s word. You can yell and ramble all you want, but that doesn’t validate your words. A god wouldn’t write a book of “their word” because it is beyond them. You can believe in God, but not everyone does. And the Bible is also corrupt and our time is already beyond it

Its one thing to mourn the life you could have but what i want people to understand is your child does not exist to be what you want them to be. Lets say he wasn't gay - he still may never bring a daughter in law for her, he may never have had children, he could've never got his education. Instead of dwelling on "what could have been" focus more on "what we can create." She can create a beautiful relationship with her son and vise versa. He can bring home a son in law. She can dote on cute little grandchildren. We only have one life, neither one of them is going to want to go through life without the other.

@@junesimba When Jesus was on the Earth, he taught his disciples in Matthew 16:24, "Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." This scripture speaks to the fact that we ALL have some things within us that are CONTRARY to Christ, and we MUST deny ourselves those things to follow Christ. If we DENY ourselves and follow him, he will lead us to life. The very next verses, Matthew 16:25-27 say, "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. 26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works." You say that most just mask it. You have NO way to validate that. You say, he helped the family EVOLVE. Jesus said that a man CANNOT even follow him if he won't deny HIMSELF. Are you saying that the person who will not deny HIMSELF, but give himself over to his basest desires is more EVOLVED than the person who will obey what Jesus said and DENY HIMSELF? Is that what you are trying to get me to believe? Humanity got to this BASE place because we started BELIEVING we were smarter than GOD. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." If we can do that, we CAN be delivered from WHATEVER.

They both need to validate each others feelings. He has the right to feel how he feels but so does she. I love how he communicated his feelings but what our generation need to understand is, we can be understood + heard without the generations before us agreeing with us and our choices. She has her own beliefs + morals, and he has his, clearly she understands and loves Him but I think trying to make her agree with something she doesn’t is not healthy, because then that invalidates her feelings-just like if he was to just agree with how she felt, it would diminish his feelings. So, it’s okay to be heard and understood without someone agreeing with you.

I remember my uncle moving to Dallas to get away from the family because he felt my grandparents would not accept him. Much like this man my my uncle was educated, handsome, and successful. The fact that he is not willing to accept her apology and have some understanding about what she is feeling show a level of immaturity. My grandmother had a hard time understanding my uncles sexuality because she was born in 1921 and saved but she loved her child. My uncle much like this gentlemen had little concern for how she felt about what she thought my have been losing a son. All of my uncle views about how my grandmother felt went out the window when he had to come home with AIDS and she was the one who poured all the love she had into caring for him until his last breath. I still remember her coming home from work to find the coroner taking his body away and lying on top him moaning like I have never heard. My point is you are free to live your life any way you please but you mothers feeling are just important as yours, so try and have so compassion for what she is feeling.

I was about to go in on Karamo but i waited until the end.... You said what i was thinking .... He has got to give his momma some grace. This ish aint easy.... Even when being gay doesn't involve your child.... There are other things a parent goes through and there is a disparage in generations.... Regardless.... So Dakota while i applaude your accolades... you want your mother to understand you... But be sure to understand her .... You rock Momma !!!! Thats it thats all... Peace and Blessings

Just except the fact, you raised and amazing intelligent person. I would be happy for my children because, they’re healthy and happy in their own skin, not what and who I think they should be. Love your kids as much as you should, they grow up to let you know what a good or banged up job you did.

He’s not a black man! Gay males aren’t men! How are you going to call someone that is feminine and likes other males a man! That title is for strong masculine males that like women. She raised a fairy

He said what is the point of apologizing and doesn't seem to want to move forward, well what is the point of bringing her on the show if you dont accept when she tries to..just wanted to hear himself talk..validate her feelings too they have it all wrong these days

The mom seems like she’s trying. He claims that she always makes things about her but everytime she says something, he brings it back to him. I’m transgender, so I know first hand what it’s like dealing with previous generations and even people of my own generation not agreeing with who I chose to be but this is very clearly a parent who is trying.

It must be hard for her. She wanted him to be a strong powerful black man who could dominate the world with his intelligence and beautiful values. He's still a wonderful man but being gay closes way too many doors. She's not homophobic, she's simply crying FOR him and mourning the idea of what her son could've been. I understand the mom's viewpoint but at the end of the day, he can't change who he is. I wish them nothing but the best ❤❤❤❤

Yeah, this is an example of someone who doesn’t know him, because his sexuality hasn’t kept him from moving on and advancing his career far more than his already successful peers on Wall Street. Being gay hasn’t hindered him from accessing anything.
