Dakotah says his mother won't accept him because he's gay. TJ admits that her son has robbed her of the traditional family, a daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Dakotah says that his relationship with his mother is already non-traditional because they've had to be more partners than mom and son. TJ says she's making an effort but she's old school. Can Karamo help this mother and child find a better way to communicate?

@@sitdownwithdakotah You ACCUSED your mother of being selfish, but your DISPLAY on that stage was the EPITOME of SELFISHNESS. Your mother was doing the best she could to APOLOGIZE to you, and you BASICALLY spit in her face for it. What you are ESSENTIALLY saying to her is, "IT'S MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY". Something to the AFFECT of, "YEAH, YOU CAN APOLOGIZE ALL YOU WANT, BUT YOU HAVEN'T KISSED MY A$$ YET". I don't care anything about you being gay. BE GAY, if that's what you want, but you didn't have to treat your mother that way, ESPECIALLY when she was TRYING to APOLOGIZE. You could have taken that APOLOGY and ASKED her if she could move toward understanding, while you would ALSO move toward understanding her position. You're like a PORCUPINE, you've got lots of good points, but your always sticking other people with them. YOU NEED TO GIVE YOUR MOTHER AS MUCH COMPASSION AS YOU WANT!!! Its one thing to mourn the life you could have but what i want people to understand is your child does not exist to be what you want them to be. Lets say he wasn't gay - he still may never bring a daughter in law for her, he may never have had children, he could've never got his education. Instead of dwelling on "what could have been" focus more on "what we can create." She can create a beautiful relationship with her son and vise versa. He can bring home a son in law. She can dote on cute little grandchildren. We only have one life, neither one of them is going to want to go through life without the other.

She needs to grow up and understand her son has his own life. He’s taking care of her and she still whining about a daughter in law? She has to grow up or she’s gonna lose him. I will always understand a parent having a hard time understanding that their child is gay because that is 100% valid and it doesn’t automatically make you terrible or homophobic because you cannot wrap your hand around it, but what is unacceptable is when you are degrading and insulting or unable to ATTEMPT to get out of your programmed ways to get your child. That’s the difference. How hurtful is it for the mother to say she feels robbed. Her feelings are valid, but my goodness to put it like that will scar that child for life. It scarred me just hearing hearing it. Wow.

@@junesimba When Jesus was on the Earth, he taught his disciples in Matthew 16:24, "Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." This scripture speaks to the fact that we ALL have some things within us that are CONTRARY to Christ, and we MUST deny ourselves those things to follow Christ. If we DENY ourselves and follow him, he will lead us to life. The very next verses, Matthew 16:25-27 say, "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. 26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works." You say that most just mask it. You have NO way to validate that. You say, he helped the family EVOLVE. Jesus said that a man CANNOT even follow him if he won't deny HIMSELF. Are you saying that the person who will not deny HIMSELF, but give himself over to his basest desires is more EVOLVED than the person who will obey what Jesus said and DENY HIMSELF? Is that what you are trying to get me to believe? Humanity got to this BASE place because we started BELIEVING we were smarter than GOD. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." If we can do that, we CAN be delivered from WHATEVER.

I believe his mom loves him down to her core and is still learning to accept him for who he is. She’s on her own journey of grieving what she’d hoped for in a son and that’s ok, even parents of heterosexual children go through that process. It’s growing pains. They both need to validate each others feelings. He has the right to feel how he feels but so does she. I love how he communicated his feelings but what our generation need to understand is, we can be understood + heard without the generations before us agreeing with us and our choices. She has her own beliefs + morals, and he has his, clearly she understands and loves Him but I think trying to make her agree with something she doesn’t is not healthy, because then that invalidates her feelings-just like if he was to just agree with how she felt, it would diminish his feelings. So, it’s okay to be heard and understood without someone agreeing with you.

@@elleurfavoritestvegan1550 bro she sat up there and invalidated his lifestyle, and basically said him being gay disappointed her… she’s not doing as good as yall think she is.

@altariendecloet3303 invalidated or didn't accept? She basically didn't say anything like that. She had a normal expectation and like any normal person when their expectations aren't met they are disappointed. It's the same thing but it's not the same thing. She didn't stop loving him she didn't stop caring she said she doesn't approve of his lifestyle there is not a thing wrong with that.

The mother has explained and acknowledged her past situations. He has to understand (like she said), that she was brought up in a different era of thinking and hopes of dreams of having grandkids, etc.. overall, she wants to recitify what was wrong. At the same time, her realization is fresh and new to digest on his side. He needs to forgive and want to rebuild a chance of having a great relationship

I appreciate Karamo extending the mother grace because she has to grow at her own pace because you cant force someone's else's growth. The fact that she wants to grow is commendable.

i think what he s trying to say to his mom..is to stop making him feel like a deception to her. Even though he is a succesful man and is worthy of happiness and good values, that she should be happy and proud of him. He wants to feel more accepted as her son, not just as a man. i can imagine his pain to this day. i hope you heal and grow forward as a family from montreal, canada

She is right about something. She is a BabyBoomer, they are Narsisist, unapologetic, selfish and when they apologize is only to end a conversation and NOT because they regret anything. Who the heck sais, robbed me of a daughter in law that "I can literature " lady get mental health

I remember my uncle moving to Dallas to get away from the family because he felt my grandparents would not accept him. Much like this man my my uncle was educated, handsome, and successful. The fact that he is not willing to accept her apology and have some understanding about what she is feeling show a level of immaturity. My grandmother had a hard time understanding my uncles sexuality because she was born in 1921 and saved but she loved her child. My uncle much like this gentlemen had little concern for how she felt about what she thought my have been losing a son. All of my uncle views about how my grandmother felt went out the window when he had to come home with AIDS and she was the one who poured all the love she had into caring for him until his last breath. I still remember her coming home from work to find the coroner taking his body away and lying on top him moaning like I have never heard. My point is you are free to live your life any way you please but you mothers feeling are just important as yours, so try and have so compassion for what she is feeling.
