I disagree with that point. very elitist thingng. ppl who just started out playing can't just come up with their own stuff. you have to start by learning a few songs. later on when you get better you mostly play originals.

yeah that one is crap Ive had dudes at guitar center walk up suprised that I was playing Morbid Angel and happy that it wasnt A7X for the 12th time that day. lol I played a 7 string version God of Emptiness, thats what got his attention. tried immortal rites but I suck at that one to this day. Nobody was like "you suck" or "write your own shit" ... when dude came up to me it was "Morbid Angel? Hell yeah!!!" I think sometimes its what you play, kind of like stairway when it came out, nobody wants to hear bad covers of Beast and the Harlot 20 times a day, smoke on the water, stranglehold, etc.

I had a funny moment at a guitar store a year ago. Went in to try a few guitars out, really just shopping for my soul. Found this really nice strat with a good paint job, but made fingerprints and grease show up SO much. Played on it for about 15 minutes, trying an amp or two in between before going to put the guitar back. It had a few gross looking marks where my arm rested, so I took it up to the counter and said "Do you guys have any polish and a microfiber cloth I could use to wipe this off? I can't come in and play this thing and leave it looking weird." The guy's reply was so choice. *Cashier* Uhhhh, yeah, here.... (grabs some Formula 65 and a rag) We've /never/ had anyone clean off a guitar after using it, hahaha, thanks for that Knocked off the tax from my strings and picks I bought, good guy TL;DR Respect the guitars, regardless of the store, we're musicians, not animals :P

This reminds me of the first time i ever entered a guitar shop. I was maybe 19 years old. Nobody ever told me how to behave at that place. I was with my friend, and we went totally crazy when we saw all those guitars. We picked and tried out several guitars, took pictures with them, and then went from one, just picking guitar strings without context, to another, i think we tried almost all of them. We were in a totally unconscious state of mind for half an hour, unaware of anything that happened around us. Like kids, first time visiting candy shop. When we were about to leave, guy who works there, and who was watching us all the time, totally pissed off and deadly serious, just told us : Guys, this is your first and the last time you behaved like that around here.

Actually this is what I've always done since the beginning of my musical journey... I never steal picks. If I ask the shop assistant for a pick then I always bring the pick in his own hands. If I wear something that has a zip on it, like a sweatshirt, I take it off to avoid scratching the guitar. I never play a guitar that's on sale with the same energy I'd put playing one of my own guitars just because you can ruin the pickguard or scratch the body. When I finish playing a guitar I always give it in the hands of the shop assistant to put it back on the wall. At least if the guitar falls for any reason no one can blame me...

remember to always tune floating trem guitar with the standard hardware on the headstock. if the pitch doesnt change, just turn a bit more. eventually you are going to hear a ping. then its just right.
