How Odin Works! Tips on How to Clear Bonds of Friendship!

Just thought i would release this video as im still hearing a lot of people struggle with Odin when trying to clear bonds of friendship themselves. He can be a big roadblock when you dont know what he does and hes flying all over the screen doing crazy abilities.

I died 5 times i a row on him. The 9 out of 10 fights felt somewhat easy to me after so many tries. So i practiced him solo in his full might form until i could kill him. The key to me was learning what you can block in Prime Mode and what not :).

Exactly, you can block 90% of his moves with prime mode, build crazy ATB and blow him away with magic lol. I've been consistently killing him for people through my patreon for the past week. Haven't lost to him since I started doing it for people. But there's always a chance lol.

@@mikeelliott886 well you can still parry/counter in prime mode. If you time R1 while in prime mode you will be immune and counter attack if you mistime it you will still counter but you will take a bit of damage.

Well once you master it you can kill him in a minute or two with cloud/Zack but yeah Sephiroth just spins around Odin and wrecks him. Wish Sephiroth had something like Seifer from ff8 where he could just 1 tap Odin xD

The Assess data says that landing ATB commands and using Debuffs stalls Zantetsuken which I feel like is true. The problem is if you get hit and have the purple wristbands, you can’t land anything on him so really it’s about avoiding his purple moves and just doing as much offense to him as possible to pressure him. I got him down to 10% this way and he still ended up using finisher but that’s ok after like 5 attempts I expected him to cheat and pull it off anyway that’s why I put Reraise+Magic efficiency on Cloud during Zack battle. Won immediately afterwards 👍

Your teammates will run over to the safe(right) side when he splits the arena. So as long as they don't die before you don't really need to pay attention to that. Time is long enough to run over even from the left side but just stay in the middle

Not always. I've had times where Zack stands on the opposite side and if I switch to him to get him over there it's too late and he's trapped. So it's always best to get them over to the right side as soon as you can.

I made to Odin twice now. It was close the second time, but he became very aggressive when his HP was low and I ended up dying. I think the challenge is not as unsurmountable as people think, and Titan may shock them at first (it sure did shock me - he defeated me several times until I understood the rhythm; you can stop him before he casts a shield, and you can cast aeroga just before he is out of a stagger phase to keep him pressured). Once I figured out how to get past Titan, I made to round 10 without issues. So hopefully just a matter of time now.. 🙏

I’ve never had problems w odin surprisingly. Just remember, always use ur abilities when ur able to, it’ll slow down zanzetsuken. When you see slepnirs furor or whatever it’s called, walk back just enough and then spam focused thrust

whats helped me after ripping my hair out fighting this guy is if u have Aeroga, use it WHILE ODINS doing one of his moves, he cant do that and reprisal at the same time...saved my azz and DONT GIVE UP when u see Gjallahorns warning, I knocked him from that to slepnirs furior, just focus on parrying and get an aeroga spell off

Yeah like I said in the video I've never been knocked out of Aeroga so I must be super lucky lol. I've done this fight like 40-50 times now and still never been knocked out apart from that one. I always power through and get health back lol. I need to properly test out what causing the knock back. You think it's when he's doing a move that stops it?

@@Solestro ya i saw another video about that, if hes doing something like shimmering blade, hes not gonna stop to do reprisal, (gotta kinda time it a little) but if u do aeroga as hes doing his move NOT ONLY will he not do the reprisal, hell also get knocked out of his current move, that LITERALLY saved me on my last win, because I was low on health and desperate

I could be wrong, but I don’t think hits on AI controlled characters build Zanketsuken. So if you have multiple party members, it can help to send one in and then switch away after setting up attacks. Then distance attack with another character until he agros on that character. Rinse and repeat. But on higher levels best to incorporate the strategies in this video as well.

Oh no it 100% builds zant. I've had points where he didn't hurt me but kept hitting Zack and he sounded galahorn like almost instantly. I just hate how not well explained his zant building is lol. Cause like I showed he can not hit you at all and build it too.

This morning I had an early zack death at like 80% and I was majorly struggling with prime mode timing. I said fuck it and went into the strat for the legendary cloud solo mission, evade + Square to get in the air and then dodge in and out as needed. The air dodge is so damn forgiving and ATB builds super fast. He ultimately did Zanzetsuken at 10% but I dragged out 70% of his hp in suboptimal conditions. Honestly he would have probably died if I hadn't eaten some of those last phase abilities I had never seen before. Something for people to consider if they're struggling with prime mode (I still had it on but saved it for conditions where it was clear I could get it off).

Been on this for 5 hours now. I have a really good build and my set ups are on point but I get randomly hit and then lose a massive HP or my character ends up dying. I use Cloud with prime, plasma and Thundaga juggle while Zack on buff mode (haste, faith and stop). I don't have any problem with this trial except when I get to 9 and 10. Personally I find ironclad to be the easiest then Titan, Mindflyer, Kujata, Phoenix and Alexander. I am going crazy, I've already watched all the youtube videos I could find. This is the only trial I have left. Once I finish it I am going for hard mode on story and I have the platinum.

This may be a dumb question, but I'm holding on to what little sanity I have left having actually gotten to him before practicing him solo. If you can comfortably take out Odin with just Cloud in the VR challenge, is it safe to assume you can essentially ignore Zack during the BoF fight with Odin?

Well if you are using the wind build from my previous video then you will be able to blast Odin without Zacks help. Only thing I use Zack for is to buff cloud. Literally don't touch him after that

It’s just so exhausting to have to start over and over again… wanted to finish the game before Dawntrail, but I still have to do hard mode and wanted complete Chadley first. x) I’ll try to be more patient if I overcome Hueyatlcoatl and Bahamut once more. Yup it does. Counter, block or even parry apply it. Just do what I do when I'm running this for people on my patreon. Just tank the hit with counter then blast him with Aeroga

Man. Im not getting this. He seems to pull his finisher from nowhere. I just finished a set of 10 practice rounds on him and cant beat him. No matter how clean I fight or block. I had a round where he did the Gallajhorn warning after blocking the first attack in the round. Then did the finisher on the third. Round was over in 38 seconds lol. Even on my best round I had him to around 10% health, waiting for him go use his freeze and counter with limit. Perfect blocks and or evades the whole round and he did the horn call then the finisher back to back. Am I missing something or is this RNG?

His moves do have a bit of RNG like he can throw out whatever he likes but with how much I've tested him and how many times I've actually finished Bonds of friendship for people he's never done anything like that to me. I can always kill him before he gets galahorn off. He never gets close to it when I do it.

​@@PedroMatos482 this is the difference. If you're close to him when you cast it, he'll use his sword for Reprisal, which will hit you out of absolutely anything. If you're far enough away, he'll use his spear instead, which you can tank with super armor.

Yeah the spells not firing etc can be annoying it gets eaten when you switch characters too fast. Kujata is easy you just need to remove one of the elements from him by hitting him with magic. Yeah the patreon needs you to have PS plus due to the cloud saves as I need access to that. So it wouldn't work without that unfortunately

I got him with Aeroga as he summoned an element, stopped it, didn't get him the second time and he jumped through two immediately and by the time I got the next ATB, he'd already charged through three, triggering Tri Disaster. Dunno what happened there lol. It only happened once but it was enough to severely demotivate me. But thanks so much for the advice, though. :)

Ok, you mention that the right side of the field is the safe half during Spatial Distortion. How do I know if I'm on the right side when it happens? Edit: it looks like if you just follow him when he shifts into Lord of the Blade, you'll already be on the safe side🤔

@@dannyfromtheville3613 you can just keep your eye on it during the battle or just pull him over to that side and keep him there. But if he jumps to start the animation he will be on the opposite side (the unsafe side) when he jumps back that's the safe side but most of the time it will be too late by then. Also there are some occasions where he jumps into the unsafe side. So don't always follow that rule. Just keep your eye on the right side when you start.

Whittled down his health, built up another aeroga and thought it would knock off the sliver of health he had, which it did but he was still alive. Didn't want to give him another chance so I had Zack use his limit break while I built up one ATB and then used ATB boost and fired another aeroga. Dead. Most infuriating challenge by far. I'm gonna go get a celebratory drink.

I don't think I'm joking when I say that Odin isn't just one of the worst fights in the game but in any game I have ever played. There is no clear indication on what you're supposed to do and how to prevent Zantetsuken which is the sole move that kills any enjoyment of Odin for me. I followed another guide a few days back but that seemed to be wrong. Even finding this new guide I'm still confused on what I'm even supposed to do to stop Zantetsuken from even happening.

From how many times I've fought and killed him for my patreon supporters. The basic jist is, don't get hit, use atb commands to pressure him quickly , if he does galahorns warning you need to pressure him to stop it. He also passively builds it without him even hitting you. But if you stagger him it stops it.

lmao I've lost BOF runs simply because Cloud was hit out of Aeroga. I think it had some funkiness to it. I could be wrong but both Cloud and Zack casting at the same time he reprisaled Zack which somehow neg'd Aero 3. The funny thing is I don't struggle with Odin its just silly mistakes. I think of all the summons he has the most reactable attacks. And they aren't generally full screen, cause status effects or greatly alter how you approach him. He just does a lot of damage. Some of which can just...kill you. I could be wrong but I think the premise of Zantetsuken is a counter is it not? And its based on trading attacks. Odin's counter builds regardless. This is why Ghallarhorn's Warning will sound no matter what even if you dodged everything. If you are attacked rather you block or not the counter moves faster. However if you respond with a successful command that counter ticks in reverse and that's the game. I could be wrong

If you want, you can use Cloud's Braver for destroying it. Doing this with Zack is so unreliable

I think you can just switch to Zack and do his synergy skill (hold R1 and spam square/triangle) until you see that Bahamut is pressured or the red particle symbol under your health bar is gone. It doesn't work with Cloud's synergy skill I think because it's a defensive move. Another thing I try to do is make sure that I have two ATB bars ready for when he does "Particle Charge" so I can Aerora both of his wings. Make sure you start casting as soon as he starts charging or you probably won't have time to break both wings. If you're using Solestro's Cloud build Aerora should do enough damage to break both wings and stop him from transforming. If you don't have the Genji gloves definitely pop into Chapter 12/13 on hard mode and get them or you're seriously limiting your damage potential. Hope that helps!

Very important to have the specific Aero build on Cloud with high level or maxed out materia for full effect, as well as Genji gloves Combat Cloud: ATB Boost, Prime mode Zack: Faith on Cloud Once Bahamut starts collecting particles with the Particle Charge move, it's important to destroy his 2 wings for pressure. As Cloud enter Prime mode, hold square to do the prime combo which will make you enter the fury status, you will see a little red icon with fangs under the first ATB bar, make sure you still have Faith buff. The combo also usually fills both ATB bars, if not just get in few hits to make sure you have 2 ATB bars, then cast Level 2 Wind (Aerora) on each wind which should instantly destroy them, then build 2 ATB again the same way with prime combo and cast Level 3 Wind (Aeroga) for high pressure and possibly stagger. It can be tricky but you shouldn't have much issue with this

I said this on Opti's channel with BOF but honestly you either have it or you don't. Zack overall is not that useful to you. But if you're specifically talking about Odin I don't know. He's honestly next to Kujata the fairest summon with only Temporal Imprisonment being the only hax because the devs literally programmed one solution and if you don't have it you just die. That said I'd like to experiment to see if synergy attacks that's not twin helix works. Sephiroth and Cloud can just neg it by having synergy which you will get as long as Sephiroth has used Manawall and/or Firaga at least once. The only theory is that it is literally the only synergy attack that has 3 cinematic point. Its start up, When Sephiroth and Cloud leap at the enemy and towards the end where they cross blades. And rule of thumb is if it gives a cut scene it can't stop you. And I don't think square thought of this so when they clash with Temporal Imprisonment both moves fizzle out . Anyways. If you can make it to Odin that many times you can do it unless you just struggled consistently with BOF and 2BAH. I dunno

@@huey515 yeah after this one i got annoying piano mini game/glide chocobo/gym mini game and finally 3d brawler sephiroth... even using pause buffering trick barely help on brawler because the npcs body motions are still misleading no matter how hard you look.

Lmao I feel like someone is salty cause they have lost so many times. This shows you what Odin does. He doesn't do anything different in the legendary challenge. I've beat it like 200 plus times so I know how he works.
