My female REFUSES to use her lay box. She is great at hiding her eggs in her bioactive enclosure and it makes it super difficult for me haha She actively avoids the lay box and has even laid UNDER it twice now. This season she even managed to completely hide 2 eggs from me, I never ever found them despite checking multiple times (like getting the eggs she laid a month later, etc) and they hatched in the enclosure! Boy was I surprised when I went to check on her and there was just a baby chilling on the ground! After a bit of searching I found the sibling and both are doing great now! It was a fun first year of breeding for me, I can't wait to start again next season! Still wishing you good luck on 1k! :D

Entered! I don’t even try with a lay box in bio active! They like to lay near the roots or under wood for protection! Maybe you can train her to just lay under the lay box? Haha!

I'm planning on getting into breeding crested geckos in the future when I have a better place, and this series has been SUPER helpful. I learn so much better from videos than long forum paragraphs, you are very good at explaining these things :). I have a question that I'm not sure you've answered before but I apologize if you have, how do you keep track of your geckos for breeding and otherwise? Do you use codes for babies and how do you decide what they are and mean? What do you use to keep track of their weights, children, parents, etc? (I was thinking a word document or spreadsheet for myself lol) I've seen breeders even use codes for tanks, different morphs, and on lay boxes. I'd love to made my own coding system instead of copying another breeder's and would love feedback on what you do! Stay awesome, man

My female started laying eggs at the age of 8 and every year since then around about June I find her buried under the substrate head first for 2 nights then ass first for 1 day to lay the eggs in her little hole in the ground, she will do this once a month up until October ... she's only one of 2 female cresties I own and both have their own tank and have never met

Another great video ! Some solid information! I have a yellow male created gecko. I saw a black female that I really like. If I breed a yellow male to a black female, what color will be the babies? Or this is a bad idea, I better stick with yellow to yellow, dark to dark ? Thank you Nick.

If you can, Yellow to yellow, dark to dark! They could for sure have beautiful babies! In some of my projects the colors don’t really make sense but I always make sure their morphs line up!

I’d ditch the bark! Reptisoil is great, spagg moss is awesome, bark can’t be passed as easily if ingested! You could also use some leave litter!

Substrate is fine! They typically won’t use a lay box if the tank already has substrate! If you plan on planting she may lay near roots of the plants!

1k! Is it normal that your 40g female is sparatic and never been breed? We adopted her September 2, 2020 from a breeder downsizing. Then Halloween we noticed 2 eggs and nothing since. She did dip in weight when she laid but now she is at her heaviest.

Yes that’s an earlier layer for sure! It still doesn’t mean she’s ready to breed! If you plan on breeding wait till 45! Offer her some dusted crickets!

help, im cleaning my tank today and found 2 eggs, what do i do ? this is horrible . what the hell yu mean they can retain sperm?? who the hell does that. i took them out and put them in a round noose yougart container and put the lid on it. then put it back in the tank.. im buying another tank and seperating every one. i bought her when she was a baby last year, not knowing what i had yet. i already had 2 males every one is getting thier own tank. i already seperated the father to these eggs. im a first time owner. and have to say these guys are the best. . i also checked the eggs i see veins in one, but the other one i already see the silouet of the baby. maybe my mind is pretending . but idk. if they live i need to find good homes,, please let me know if im doing this rite. .thanks

You can always freeze the eggs if you aren’t ready for babies. Finding homes isn’t very easy. Just separate and when the females lay freeze the eggs! Also make sure you are weighing her, laying can be tough on the body!
