I worked aboard the Sedco "H" off the coast of Suriname in '74. She was a 3 caisson semi-submersible which I later accompanied to service off the coast of Nova Scotia, in the turbulent North Atlantic. Semi-submersible platforms are surprisingly stable in harsh seas when lowered to heavy ballast, but are still extremely dangerous, as demonstrated in the Ocean Ranger tragedy. Excellent video!
