Sam wasn’t a man yet when Kent left and Vincent can remember his father enough to know he’s changed. Kent was a soldier not like a commanding officer so he’d have to be young and healthy enough to be fit to fight. He seems like 19 years old to me. Sebastian has a younger sister with a different father who’s old enough to go have gone to school to be a nurse. I’d guess 30 years old for Sebastian. Abigail is still in school and talks about homework but never talks about anything substantial like going for her masters degree or writing a dissertation. I’m guessing early 20s

Sebastian’s dialogue in the saloon on fridays makes me feel like he’s an older mentor-ish for the two. He says “should I let sam win for once? nah” It gives your cool older next-door neighbor who takes you and you friends out on weekends vibes.

Ye, Shane also got this "I'm doomed anyway" attitude, so he doesn't really care for his looks, while Elliot on other hand seems like a person who didn't really do much hard work in his life so it's logical he would look younger.

There’s gotta be a bigger age gap between Maru and Sebastian. Sebastian’s relationship with Demetrius doesn’t feel like Demetrius has been in Sebastian’s life since he was two years old. I’d put them 6 years apart at minimum.

@@sodorart I think it's also important to take in robin and demetrius's age when considering how old their kids may be. I think bringing up that sebastian and demetrius seem to have a strained relationship is a valid point and speaks to sebastian's age. Robin herself does not appear to be very old. She's very lively and obviously is still capable of handling a physically demanding career like carpentry. If I had to guess, robin had sebastian at a pretty young age and possibly never married the baby daddy. Demetrius is very protective of Maru, almost like he hasn't yet come to terms with the fact that Maru is an adult, similar to Caroline with Abigail.

While Sam is definitely a baby I think Alex is potentially the youngest bachelor. In his 8 heart even he says it’s the 12 year anniversary of his mother’s death. He also says he was too young to thank her, they just played sports and he remembers her cooking. To me that says he was like 10 at the oldest Also I’m not sure if this is right but isn’t he out of high school hoping to get drafted to a college team? I know his father an alcoholic but he likes alcohol just fine as a gift but never goes to the bar, even in the first green rain even. Maybe he’s too young to drink 😅 Maybe that’s why he grows so much as a person 😂

My take on Alex's view on alcohol is that he generally doesn't care about it and normally doesn't feel the need to drink it, but he can still enjoy a glass or two if it's offered by someone else.

Personally I think it’s a good thing that the ages are generally up to interpretation. I feel like with a game like this with marriage candidates for the player, it’s better to keep ages ambiguous so people don’t feel weird about a character being too old/young. I say this because a game I’m currently playing has a marriage candidate who is confirmed to be *18 years old*, which drives me nuts every time I think about it. 18 is not old enough to be getting married no matter how you look at it 💀

i personally think sebastian is younger than 29, mostly because he's friends with sam and abigail. his smoking problem could have started when he was a teenager and hid it from his mom. i can't explain his job lol, but i feel like seb would be 26, and maru would be maybe 25-24

Even if his smoking problem didn't start as a teenager, nicotine addiction is super difficult to kick. Within a month of my friend giving me her vape during a hard time for my mental health, I was severely addicted to nicotine. I've been vaping for over two and a half years now and every day I wish I could quit. I tried to cut it out completely once, but the withdrawals drove me crazy and I ultimately fell back into the habit. Since then I've lowered the amount of nicotine from 20mg to 6mg, and I don't vape quite as much as I used to because of work, but I am in no way close to quitting- as much as I want to.

I have always felt there was a bit more of an age gap between Sebastian and Maru simply because they are half siblings. Robin doesn't seem the kind to cheat so one can assume that she had been separated or widowed or whatever for a while before she started dating Demetrius. that and the relationship between Sebastian and Demetrius makes me think he knew his real father. As for Maru's education ... She is clearly a genius, she probably skipped a few grades and got into college early.

Its just not possible to leave your parents house at the ripe age of 18 anymore its too expensive. It bothers me when people still have this mindset that people need to be moved out immediately when todays economy just cant support it. i wouldn't say it's THAT impossible to move out at 18. i live in a third world country with a huge, and i really mean /huge/, economic crisis (Argentina) and most, if not all, the young adults i know (myself included) have already moved out by 18/19 to go to college. i'll admit that education and healthcare are completely free over here, but still, living in the situation we are forced to face every day, i wouldn't say it's completely impossible. i understand that other countries may have their own economic struggles, and i'm really sorry about that because i know it's not exactly a pretty situation to be put in, but it kinda makes me giggle when people that live in first world countries say that they are facing a rough time when most third world countries have been at it for over 50+ yrs. i don't exactly know if you're from a first world country, but my point still stands lol.

@@valegaleano3026 this is a pretty odd thing to say. just because people live in a first world country doesn't mean everything is automatically easier for them (especially when it comes to financial costs/economic issues). like you said, countries have their economic struggles, especially in canada where i live. the cost of living by yourself is genuinely not possible if you don't have a high paying job (i'm talking 75k yearly at the LEAST). good for you for being in the position to be able to move out by 18/19, but that is definitely not the case for MOST people around that age in a first world country. also, college is a different story. lot's of people move out for college, but they usually come back home when they graduate. i'm pretty sure the original comment is talking about moving out completely,

I do think this may not be applicable for Emily and Shane, who were added as bachelors later. Especially if you look at Shanes original concept art. Speaking of which, Maru looks SO young in that art, it would explain Demetrius's overprotective attitude. I'd say Sam and Abigal would both be 23 or less. Sam also has a kid brother, which might contribute to his youthful attitude.

I think around 22-23 is a good number for Abby and Sam considering they're close with Seb and it seems like they've been friends for a long time. Imo I personally see Maru as youngest probably around 20-21 or so. I think Demetrius is just being a typical dad but he just comes off too strong lol.

I’ve always pictured Leah between 26-28. She said her and her ex were just scraping by so there def wasn’t a long term investment in the cabin, and it is quite small so probs wouldn’t need that much. Plus she’s still young enough to still want to make an effort to become an artist but also old enough to have been in a long term relationship of sharing an apartment. I also imagined Sebastian to be the oldest in his friend group of Sam and Abigail, though by about 2-3 years, and Sam and Seb always felt closer with Abigail being more on the outer, implying she may be younger. Apart from that I think this is very accurate!

I find the age gap between Sebastian and Maru much larger. The relationship between Sebastian and Demetrius is strained in a way where i think seb spent enough time with his own dad to be bitter. He would have had to spend enough time with his own dad to now resent Demetrius, which would lead to Maru needing to be significantly younger.

I always figured Maru was considerably younger than Sebastian. Sebastian sometimes mentions remembering little details about his dad, plus, as a younger sibling with an older sibling that's several years older than me, the two of them act exactly like me and my sister. Sebastian seemingly hates Maru and thinks she's spoiled rotten, despite no clear indication of that, and Maru loves Sebastian, even though he's mean to her. I'd sat he's got to be at least 5 years older than her. likely more.

I’ve always thought of Maru to be 20, and Sebastian to about 26 because I feel like robin wouldn’t get divorced so early into seb’s childhood. I also think that Sam is about 24 just because of the fact that I feel like he should be close to age with Seb but not over 25 cause his brain is definitely not fully developed (if you don’t know your brain is fully developed at 25) Also thankyou for making this channel and these videos! I don't remember seeing Maru actually taking care of a patient, so she doesn't need any licence or degree. Troubleshooting medical equipment should come naturally since she grew up with a scientist dad, a carpenter mom and a hacker brother. As for Sebastian, the hacker community has a lot of self-taught kids. I don't think he's been smoking THAT long. Like five years can feel like a long time if you are young and don't really have much happening in your life. If he started at 18 I can imagine him starting to say those things after 5 years at 23.

I would say Penny is 22 at oldest. She is someone with a lot of spirit backed up. Being the way that she is, I’m sure she would have found some way to move out by 26 (Zuzu City, college in-person, etc.). 22, I think, is an age that makes sense for her to still be living with her mother and speak the way that she does in her free time. Her dialogue where she mentions reading so much because she longs for a different world doesn’t give me the signal of someone over the age of 25. As for her being a teacher, I don’t believe that she’s already obtained a bachelor’s. An associate’s, maybe, but I’ve always imagined that she’s spending her money towards online classes, books, or books about how to improve as an educator. As well, she initially has a crush on Sam. Sam is quite immature at times, like when he tries to sneak you into his bed so that his mother doesn’t know. This is not the behavior of someone used to being an adult. For Penny to have a crush on him, I would argue that she would have to be only slightly older than him, within one or two years. That said, she only really has a crush on Sam because he has a childish personality, one that Penny never got to have because of her upbringing. That isn’t the behavior of someone who has had ample time to adjust to adulthood, especially in a small town.

This is definitely an interesting breakdown! I agree with the older candidates for sure, and I'd say my only major disagreement is Sebastian and Maru. While I agree there's way too much stigma on adults living with their parents (as someone who only just bought a house at 29, and only could afford to because I moved back in with my mom for a year) the way Sebastian and Maru interact definitely feel like siblings with a large age gap. I'd be inclined to go so far as to say 6 or 8 years even - enough time for Sebastian to feel the brunt of his parent's divorce and his mom getting remarried, and to not feel like he can relate as easily with his younger sister.

I always thought they would be between 18 and 27 with Harvey being the oldest. With 8 years of medical school (which he states in a cutscene ) and him being new to stardew, he could be even younger... Depends on when he started school. I don't think there is anyone beyond 30.

12:05 as someone who literally has this job I had 0 schooling on it and the clinicians don’t even know how the equipment works. I mean they know how to use it on a patient but putting it together or fixing it when it breaks?? Nah they got nothing. The reason I know how to do all of that is because I read all of the information for each machine and I’ve got a knack for fiddling with tech. So as someone with basically the same job I’d say it’s very likely she has no formal medical training and just knows basic stuff from being on the job. You don’t need to go to medical school to handle medical paperwork and it’s more just along the lines of understanding HIPPA.

AS someone in my early 30s - the description of "Early 30s describing themselves as old" is so valid. I have a bunch of friends under 36 and they're all like "ugh I'm sooo old" - had a friend who is 34 saying if their partner broke it off, that'd be it for them since they'd be too old to date. Like ...bro what? I do think the Shane as a godfather thing also has nothing to do with his age. My parents had my brother and I in their 30s and we had godparents all lined up, but those godparents became bio parents in their 40s. I think if they were THAT good of friends with Shane, they probably did it as soon as they knew they were having a kid more out of trust and closeness and ASSUMING he wouldn't need to take her any time soon. It seems like his friends died young [and with the skid marks outside of the bus area I wonder if that's a hint as to /how/ even if they were elsewhere]. So I think he was /maybe/ in his late 20s when they died but he's in his 30s now that we meet him/now that he's come to live with Marnie. And there is a secret note of Marnie with a MUCH younger Jas - and Penny's "How to teach the second grade" books imply that the kids are in 2nd grade - so about 7-8 years old. And Marnie mentions that Shane's only been there a few months - so if that picture is accurate - Jas has been with Marnie longer than Shane has, and Marnie says he was in a bad place before -- leading me to believe he asked his aunt for help, she took Jas in, and then eventually took Shane in because he was getting even worse since he was in a bad place BEFORE his friends passed away.

The idea that "life just ends when you're old" is so sad too. "I'm too old to do XYZ" is just gonna hold people back, truly.

I personally don't think Sebastian would be older than 27. For a lot of online jobs involving programming, it doesn't need a whole lot of credentials like Harvey's medical degree. Sure you'd need some level of coding knowledge so you could keep your job, but you could take online courses that just span months. Plus, Sebastian's job strikes me as entry-level, given that he hasn't been able to move out yet. High-level programming jobs net you a significant salary. And with the smoking habit, I'd have to agree with the others that he picked it up young (sadly). In one of Robin's dialogues, she mentions finding a tray in his room that "smells funny", and asking the farmer if she should be concerned about it, which gives me the impression that he's been trying to hide it from his mom. If Sebastian were as old as you mention, and with his personality, I'd assume he wouldn't care hiding his habit from his mom. I'd think he picked it up maybe because Maru outshines him since they were kids, plus living in a basement would be a little depressing lmao.

I always thought of Maru as the youngest. Maybe it's controversial, but I headcanon Sebastian being about 23-26 (mostly held up by the fact he implies that if he went to college, he would be a relatively recent graduate. something along the lines of "If I had went to college, I could've graduated a couple years ago and be making 6 figures by now", as someone who works in tech, people often start work very young. Certifications are waaay more valued than degrees, I've never seen a tech job ask for anything higher than an AS as far as college goes, and mostly ask for certs. I got lucky and had dual enrollment with a votech school for a year and a half in high school, and I'm working a tech job at 18 because of how quick a lot of certification programs are. At maximum, assuming he wasn't training in high school, he would be no older than 21 if he went to college for computer science) and from what other people said about Seb remembering his father and resenting Demetrius and Maru. Im not 100% sure if it's vanilla, but I often get a dialog from Maru that says something along the lines of "I'm still not sure what kind of science I want as a career. I love robotics, but I also love working at Harvey's clinic" the jobs Maru does are jobs often given to interns (I have family in medical, med interns are required to sign contracts that say they will obey HIPPA) combined with her curiosity, never showing up in the saloon, and overall vibe, I'd pin Maru as young as 19 years old, or even 18

Something I was thinking about during Sebastian's section was that his programming i nsing a job it's a hobby, and while I'm sure he's had a few small jobs from it, it's not a complete job. During diolouge from just talking to Sebastian, you can getthe words "You must make a lot of money working on your farm," the talk to him directly after he'll finish with " Maybe I should get a job soon" so I feel as though Sebastian should be a little younger, comparing with the fact he doesn't seem to find of Demetrius . I think Sebastian and Maru are younger. Sebastian most likely started smoking as a teenager and hid it. Maru doesn’t seem too much younger 3-4 younger max. I think Seb would be around 24 and Maru 21. Another thing that I think makes it hard to tell the age gap with Shane and Elliot to me is they seem to be interested in things outside of their physical age. Young vs Old soul kinda vibes. Shane is still interested in video games, eating junk food, and bar culture. Makes me think of someone just finishing undergrad who was forced to grow up too soon because of Jas’ situation. But the idea of him being around 25 feels way too young to me. Meanwhile Elliot is the “I like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain” type. As someone who personally has experience with alcoholics in the family that has impacted me severely, while I enjoy the occasional alcoholic beverage (particularly I like how the components of the alcohol contribute to the drink, in a culinary sense), I don't like being in places where I'm exposed to drunken behavior like bars or large parties. Of course, that's a personal anecdote at the end of the day, but I'd say both possibilities are equally viable, and maybe both technically apply (where he is too young, but will still refrain once he's of age).

This was a really cool video idea and I like the reasoning behind most picks. Even though I personally disagree with a few of them, I can understand the logic used for these guesses. There’s a few interesting ones to me, but I think one of the biggest ones I haven’t really seen anyone else mention yet is Alex. Based of his personality, his life, who he associates with, etc. I do feel like right around 25 is the most logical age for him, he feels like he’s around 25. However the biggest issue with this is the fact that he’s still somewhat holding on to his pipe dream of making it big and becoming a professional athlete. I think the game somewhat implies he is a tiny bit too old, and wasn’t quite good enough to achieve that dream, but being 25 and still holding out hope for that is completely unrealistic. I think at the absolute oldest end he’d have to be around 22-23 to believably have that as a character trait. Maybe even a little younger. If you are going to be a pro athlete, you’ll likely know for sure by around 18-20, and arguably could still have a tiny shot around 20-23, which is the age group I feel like suits Alex’s sports dreams. He does ‘feel’ like he’s around 25 in many ways, but I just don’t think that’s very believable with his goals. If I had to guess I’d say he’s 22 (maybe 23), which would also place Haley at about 23 for me, and therefore Emily around 26.

I don't really have many concrete age headcanons for most of the bachelors and bachelorettes, but i like thinking that there is also three older bachelorettes, those being Emily, Leah and i used to think Penny, but I'm not super sure on this. If she is, she would be the youngest between them For specific ages, I only really thought about the ones that i married so far. I think Emily is the oldest based on Pierre’s community center completion cutscene dialogue. He said that the community center was bustling when he moved to Pelican Town and that Emily spent years weaving the Stardew Fair banner. Abigail was conceived in Pelican Town, so if we reasonably estimate Emily was 18 when she started working on the banner and Abigail is exactly 18 considering Emily brings up Abi’s graduation party, that makes Emily at least 36. Also Emily and Shane were never meant to be datable, so it would make sense that they’re older than the other 10 marriage candidates.

Living at home and being “young” should be considered outdated now, nearly everyone I know was or has adult kids living at home. I made being a working adult living at home part of my farmers backstory, that’s why she’s so depressed and broke at the start of the game. Age wise it’s based on my own moving out experience and my fantasy path not taken. She’s 29 about to turn 30, burnt out and sinks all of her working through her 20’s savings that was suppose to be a home deposit into fixing the farm. This is the part where I imagine I defied my parent’s plan for me and my money. I wish I turned 30 in Pelican town!

I want to add to living with parents situation. The town is small, even is you could move out, you'll probably be just renting a room in a house next to you. That's not a city, there are no apartment buildings. And when the house is big enough, you and your family do get enough privacy, so people who would want to move out, are gonna have a stronger reasoning then just being an adult. Like, marrying a farmer, who has a big house and there is more than enough room to start a family Also I feel like Alex and Haley are a bit younger. On the above 30 side I totally agree, regarding Sebastian I think he's early to mid 20s he strikes me as the type to smoke underage as he a rebellious streak while I think Maru is deciding on a degree which is why she's doing odd jobs and tinkering in her room which in my mind puts her at 20 ish and in competion with Sam and Alex as the younger bachor/ette. I also think Abi is a similar age to each other, I picture them as being in school together and bonding in their teen years over their family issues, Caroline viewing Abi as being younger is more to do with their family dynamic, also being frustrated at your daughter for being in uni and still reliant on you reads as very postgrad/masters experience to me. Alex also seems slightly younger to me because of the death of his mam and not really remembering her as well as the amount of growth he goes through reads as just entering the real world.

That's an interesting dialogue! I'd say there's an age gap for sure. I think in a small town, kids that are 10 years old are definitely playing with kids that are 7 years old, and that's normal. And then eventually, the older kid gets too mature for the younger kid so they start going their own separate ways.

I really like the thought and evidence put into this list! It's really compelling, but my personal headcanon (mostly based on in-game dialogue and the 'feel' I get from them) is as follows: Harvey: 40 Pretty much exactly for the reasons you described, and his love of aircraft, specifically models and radio speech, really evokes the image of an older man that's passionate about his hobbies to me. Elliot: 37 He feels like he has already gone through the 'passionate young writer' phase, got burned out, and now is trying hard lifestyle changes to try to rekindle that spark. That bespeaks of an older writer to me. Penny: 35 She strikes me as someone that has been through the whole arc of trying to free her life from her mother, but also can't bring herself to abandon her, so she feels that she missed out on young womanhood, now feeling that settling down is her best bet since she missed her chance to use her education beyond a few local kids (though she would always have taught them, I feel). Shane: 35 Similar arc with Shane, but with him wasting his youth and now finding himself with way more responsibility than he was ready for. Maru: 32 She feels the oldest of the younger group to me, as she feels like she wants to create gadgets to improve life in general for everyone, and she wants her friends to be able to play more, so she wants something that can do the chores for them. She also just strikes me as the most mature of the younger group, and while it doesn't necessarily translate into age, she just strikes me as someone just coming into that early 30's responsibility feel. Sebastian: 30 He had enough training to learn coding at a company level, yet can still do work from home but not enough free time to go out as often as others, telling me it's a decent paying but low level job, exactlyvthe kind you would take if you dream of rising in the ranks early enough for freedom later in life. Leah: 27 She feels like she worked hard for a few years then leapt at the opportunity to completely change her life after turmoil struck in her relationship, which feels like something you can really only do after a few years of good work but young enough to not have too many ties or responsibilities to hold you down. Emily: 25 A little mature for her age from dealing with a younger sister, she grew up happy and able to chase her dreams. Haley: 24 Much like her sister, but has that 'younger sister' energy to me. Alex, Sam, Abigail: 22 They all feel like they are starting to reach adulthood, but are still struggling in their own ways to find out what that really means. That's just how they came across to me, but I love how different people can see things wildly differently. It honestly is part of what makes each candidate so interesting.

I would have put Emily and Hailey together in 26 - 29 with 2-3 years between them. or in brackets next to eachotther at least with a 4-5 year gap. Hailey would be the miracle baby of the family and treated as such, making her never have to take responsibility while Emily were taught to help out around the house and with her sister. I would also have put Maru as significantly younger than Sebastian as they are half siblings and i expect there would be time needed for divorce, healing, finding a new man and then finally trust for a future and babymaking. I also dont feel like she does any medical work at Harveys, just the machines and assistant/secretary work so that he can focus on the actual doctoring. I feel like Alex would go in the 26-29 bracket and that all his trauma and hardship has made him toughen up and get a bit stagnant. Well… 10:04 If Sebastian is nearly 30 and he already have a job and a motorcycle… then why does he even stay in pelican town with his family? I think Maru is a lot younger than you put. She participates in the Egg Hunt with Sam and Abigail so she has to be around the same age as them. If anything the three of them in my eyes are no more than 21 especially since Abigail asks the player if they think she’s too old for the egg hunt. Maru being Abigail and Sam’s age would make more sense with her family’s dynamic too. Demetrius shows absolutely no interest in Sebastian and Seb also shows no interest in Maru their age gap has to be way bigger

I used to think he was the same age as Sam and Abigail since they’re besties but what you said in the video convinced me he’s older, I’d put him in the range of 27-29. It’s not odd for older people to have friendships with younger people especially in a small town

I definitely agree that the egg hunt participants and comments need to be taken into consideration. That being said, an egg hunt with only 2 hunters is kind of sad, so I wouldn't be surprised if pelican town was letting them keep hunting despite being older than the traditional age bracket. I know I viewed Abigail as being 18 due to this dialogue, though thinking now, it would make more sense that she would be the oldest of the three of them.
