How old is my Abu Garcia fishing reel? Who the heck knows!

To be honest, this was difficult. There just isn't much info out there, so I gave it my best shot. Please comment below if you have any information. Here are the two best sites I found:

Here is the response I got from Abu. Looks like I was right about the letters corresponding with the months (except I said F was May lol): SE14J00 - 00 This is referenced on the schematic, October 2014, SE is the Factory SE1600G - 00 This is referenced on the schematic, July 2016, SE is the Factory 00F17SE - 00 This is referenced on the schematic, June 2017, SE is the Factory 01112SE - 01 is the first edition, September 2012, SE factory 01K12SE - 01 first edition, November 2012, SE Factory SE14D00 - 00 This is referenced on the schematic, April 2014, SE factory SE14I00 - 00 is referenced on the schematic, September 2014, SE Factory

I know that has everything to do with the identification also I've personally got a 5000 I bought bran new in 1979 still catching fish it's still hard to find a reel that will out perform it

I would say SE is pretty obvious 🙂 Abu Garcia is a Swedish brand and SE is Sweden (the Swedish top level domain is .se).

I have 2 that my father gave me, he bought them in 1965. on one of them the serial number is 932379, i havnt used them yet there still in pristine condition in there leather cases never been into fishing but im about to give them a crack. i think they still have the original fishing line on them

I've just checked my Abu ambassaduer Tormentors and they're 200020/39, I'm guessing they're born in the year 2000?

I got some 5500 and 6500 c I bought back in the 80s them still in my striper boat the ones back then it tell you the year on the bottom the later 80s ones would tell you the year they made that design to the year you bought it that would be the last 4 number on it

I have a couple of the catfish collectors edition the blue reel they were made for a company in the states called catfish connection per catfish connection specs by abu garcia I was on a quest to collect them all because there cool colors and they were offered in pro rocket series in same colors for the year that ended in 2019 when I got what was supposed to be a 3 bearing reel that only had 2 bearings in it and a bushing they may have been offered by other companies but I know catfish connection carried those as I have a purple pro rocket and a purple c3 along with a maroon c3 that all came from catfish connection when I found the bearing problem they issued me a refund and I got the 6500 black edition to replace it then they marked the price down 20.00 for the remainder of the batch I guess people don't normally tear a brand new reel down and get all the goop grease they put in them from the factory like I do but if you u want performance out of the box it's a nessary evil they are way over greased which inturn causes a reel to cast poorly compared to one properly lubed and bearings properly oiled that's about all I know about them was highly disappointed to get a 3 bearing reel that only had 2 bearings and a bushing one of the bearings I'm referring to is the anti reverse bearing it had 1 spool bearing 1 spool bushing and the anti reverse bearing kinda broke my spirit on trying to collect new ones and the older ones I didn't have

It is a code that need be decoded, it is hard to find the code list, but Most of the time the numbers and year are noy connected. Some are post 2010 like the carpmaster they put the year on the foot. But for the most part no!!! all of the reels you have on tha table are post 2010. And the SE IS NOT SPECIAL EDTION. NO NO NO
