I've been listening to Sabrina's music since I was 12 and she was 15, which is around the time this song came out. It's easy to dismiss the messages in her older music as "basic" or "nonsensical" and compare them to musicians who are her age now (so in their 20s), but when I was a kid, this was GROUNDBREAKING to me. It's kinda the same issue with the Barbie movie speech and message. FOR YOU, who are in your 20s or 30s, it's not new information, but the 12 year olds who never questioned anything and their moms who are not on the internet 24/7 participating in sociopolitical discourse are starting to question things because of it. This song, along with all of her Eyes Wide Open (her first album) songs were the philosophy I lived by, back then. So of course, now that I'm 20 it's just a fun little song, but it's not bad or stupid and I'm glad you recognized that ❤

Thumbs is a party anthem in my opinion. You can sing along without knowing the lyrics. I personally think the lyrics are accurate, some people (not all) do live like that. Big corporations, working 9 to 5

So for Sabrina she was really young and it was kind of her departure from the girl meets world persona and all as I’m pretty sure the subway is the same as the one in the show Ppl find the lyrics stupid because of the family tree moment but yak it is what it is Also just wanted to point out at the end of the song when she’s sitting down and not singing you can see her twiddling her thumbs which is amazing in my opinion (I saw a comment say the eye symbol is probably for ‘eyes wide open’ which was her previous album to this)

I was at her opening concert on her second tour, The De-Tour, in Vancouver, and got to meet her, talk to her for a few minutes, take a picture and get a little video with the two of us. It was amazing and she was super sweet. Right away I could tell that she wasn't only talented, but that she deserved to be a big star. She is quite short, but her personality and kindness were humongous. I actually took some extremely amazing videos of nearly the entire concert, as I was right at the foot of center stage, (and it was a much smaller, more intimate theater, so I was able to capture her amazingly.) If you ever want to check her out live, (outside of an awards performance or TV taping,) I have all those videos uploaded on my channel. If you want to do a reaction to any of them, just let me know. (I don't get paid for anything on my channel, I just put the videos I've recorded and KZbin allows me to put up, for fans to enjoy.)

I personally love this song! It's one of my favorites! So musically interesting, and the lyrics are awesome too! I'm 32, so with that being said I grew up in more of the Hilary Duff era of Disney, but I have a Zoomer niece who loved and still loves Sabrina and watched her on Girl Meets World, and what not. She liked to play Sabrina's music when she started putting out her music. I loved it! Even at the time I was in my 20s I still like her music now It's amazing.

How I’ve always understood the “twirling them thumbs” lyric and which it could help others that don’t understand or even hate it cause they see it as a random lyric song is like you said it’s about a corrupted system and the situations she is describing in the lyrics are fucked up situations that happen everyday, so the “twirling them thumbs” meaning is about a higher up position/person or like cops or government sees all these fucked up situations but instead of getting up and doing something about it they sit back in their chair, cross their hands and twirl their thumbs and watch it all happen and basically watching everyone suffer, i think the ones that are haters aren’t fully understanding the lyrics of the song. The band system of the down had a song that said in the lyrics to not get distracted by the upbeat of the song but focus on the meaning of the lyrics, Sabrina was awake for sure

This is definitely an older song. I first heard it when she performed it on a Disney telenovela called Soy Luna, which aired on Disney Channel Latin America. I believe the episode she was in aired in 2018 and so I'm assuming it's a 2017 song as that's when they probably filmed the episode that she was in.

I was last year at her concert in cologne for just 40€ . She was absolutely stunning.

I love how excited you get because it mimics how I feel listening to certain songs/artists and I assume a lot of your other subscribers. I'm waiting to see if my surgeon will say yes to surgery to remove a nearly blocked part of the 1 metre of my intestine I have left after many surgeries over the years since I was a child. To put it in perspective most of us have around 5 to 7 metres of intestine. I have many other illnesses that are in play and there is an 85% chance I will die on the operating table but if I can't get the surgery I will have a slow, painful death with no quality of life. We have euthanasia laws in place in my country which I'm not sure about because I've always been determined to fight for my life. Even if the surgery is completed, I may only get one more year. I was a primary school teacher and foster mum at 32 when my team of specialists gave me two years at the most to live but I've had 12 years longer making me 46 now. I lost my beautiful mum to stage 4 cancer on the day after Christmas coming up to 4 years ago. Then 13 months to the day I found my Dad after he passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep. I never thought I'd be the last one left and it's been incredibly hard to keep fighting for my life without them. Time will tell what happens but we all have to die at some point I just really want to know the decision.
