Kraft is my favorite. Loved the way you did this video.

Thanks WD, I'm surprised at how long it's lasted and I think it's just fine. I still have several boxes, I'll set some aside for year 20 post expiration date.

They never go off as they are not really food nor are something I'd recommend people eat now or in a shtf. I have a few I got in race kits years ago in a box somewhere. Vegan options of this product are awful. Kitty makes lovely ones

Feb 2010 I was freezing my buns off in Afghanistan. Nice little deja vu there. I thought my brain went screwy for a second. This is a prime example of the power of preservatives

I know it's not really food but I suspect most parents have a box or two somewhere in their houses.

@OldSchoolPrepper we have a few boxes. Kids will make sure you get stuff they like even if it's horrible. I try to sneak in Annie's but even they've gone nuts to 70% organic

I have some that is four years past the "best use by" date. The 'cheese' powder smelled off to me when I added it to the mix but the grandsons devoured it and asked for more.

I am worried about the chemicals in it. Do you think it's worth buying pasta to use or is all that screwed up too?
@HuplesCatАй бұрын
Buy pasta but look at the ingredients list. Pasta like rice is an additive to nutrition. A filler. If you don't have a look at sprouting seeds and get a decent vegan cook book. In grid down meat is not going to be available for long
@OldSchoolPrepperАй бұрын
hi Robert, I don't really recommend storing a bunch of Kraft Mac & Cheese it really isn't very good nutritionally BUT if you have kids or just need a good comfort food (and if you are stuck without power or grid down)you may want some comfort food. I also buy pasta and rice and like Huples says (below) it's a carb filler. I think of it as a food stretcher. I grow and can my own tomatoes so pasta with home made tomato sauce is good nutritionally. I also think these fillers allow us to financially get some food on the shelves which is why I have it too. I hope I answered some of your questions. I have a lot of food storage so hit me up with any questions you have. Personally I like eating meat and think it's important in our diets, though I was vegetarian for a few years and vegan for about one year....Huples (below) is a long term vegan, he is super lucky in that his long term partner, Kitty, is a cook and I believe she does almost all of the food prep and cooking, at least that is how it appears in the cooking video's. They are also both very well versed in nutrition (both being long term RN's) so they know their stuff.
@OldSchoolPrepperАй бұрын
meat will be available if one grows it which really doesn't take much (for Rabbits or Chickens) certainly hunting is off the table for long term (unless one lives in Alaska or far Northern America's.). However because meat is a project we should all look at protein and how we can get enough without meats e.g. how many lbs of beans (or other high protein veggie/legumes/nuts) need to be grown to satisfy nutritional needs.
@HuplesCatАй бұрын
@@OldSchoolPrepper I disagree. Feed for the critters needs to be grown and harvested. Much easier to just eat it directly. Protein is not at all an issue on a plant based diet and there is zero need to count grams. Fat is an issue in shtf, here I'm looking at the rabbits and chickens which won't help that item long term

@@OldSchoolPrepper not as old I don't think but it was years ago. they prob used less chemicals back when. I would guess almost 30 years ago. I think they got toxic if they don't change color now.

huge lifelong fan òf kraft mac n cheese. With the background style music I was expecting to see samual jackson or travolta from pulp fiction. I guess that the "hard noodles" help keeping weevils at bay ? Not so certain the veggies in it are for me. Lol.
@OldSchoolPrepperАй бұрын
I keep most of my noodles in a large plastic tote. Now I freeze everything before storing long term, but back then I didn't so I can only assume the tote helped keep them out.

So.... How did you store it? Did you freeze it first or have it in mylar or just in a sealed plastic tote? Please do tell. Thanks for the info
@OldSchoolPrepperАй бұрын
hi Holly, I now freeze before I store BUT i have about 8 more boxes of this Kraft Mac * Cheese (must have been a sale back then) I took them and put them into a large tote with a tight fitting lid. I also have other mixed noodle dishes, spaghetti, fettuccine, RiceaRoni and other pastas/rices. I packed it when we moved from the old house to my current house in 2011...and I only open it up to get out pasta or whatever then it goes right back into storage. The whole tote is bug free, so far at least :)
