I'm 87 now and have been riding all makes and types of motorcycles for the past 70+ years! I feel comfortable on my present 1996 Honda Rebel 250 twin due to its lightweight, and low seat height, feet firmly planted! I would love a new Street Glide Special, but my little Honda Rebel makes much more sense for my 140 LBS weight, 5' 6 " height, and failing strength! You are only safe on what you can manage comfortably! I still ride and enjoy my bikes every day! Take care, all!.....😎...😎...!

Good subject and presentation. I’m about to leave on the first of my fall rides of ~1500 miles. I’ll go again late October for about a 2000 mile ride. I started riding at age 14 and I’ll turn 69 in January. I ride a standard GoldWing and a KLR. I think I have to ride at least every couple of days to keep my skills up. I can see the end of the runway and I know I’ll have to quit riding in about 10 more years.

Hey mate ! I am a new subscriber and this particular video topic caught my attention. I started riding when i was 12 years old and I am currently 55 so you can do the math 😂 (Yes, I've been riding longer than Aladdin flew his carpet) Great conversation and observations so considering that I ride a large sport touring bike ( *Triumph Trophy SE* ) is something that I always ask myself. I guess as long my knees and cognitive functions are fine, I expect to keep riding until my 70th. Having said that and despite my experience, I am often practicing low speed manouvers, tight u-turns and emergency braking in empty parking lots to keep my road strategy and skills up to date. Most recently I've been practicing the same exercices with my *motorcycle pop up camper* as it really changes the riding dynamics. Great video and keep on riding ! Cheers.

I love seeing old guys out riding. About 15 years ago, I was riding with a group of guys on sport bikes, and sport tourers. A big BMW K bike came by and passed all of us on the outside of corners, or anywhere he could. We get to the stop at the end of the corners, and the BMW is waiting there for us. The guy pops open his module helmet, and he must have been in his 80's, with a big grin and his dentures showing. He wanted to know where we were riding to next, because he had such a fun time riding with us. We all laugh, and said, you weren't riding WITH us, you rode PAST us. I just hope when I'm 80, I can get on like that.

When I was working in the trade selling bikes many many moons ago one of our oldest (and richest) customers was a bloke called David (forgot his last name) but he was in his nineties easily and walked with a hunch very slowly. However, when he threw his leg over his VFR750R - RC30 it fit him perfectly and his physique disappeared! He rode exactly like you say about your guy, like he was born in the saddle. Legend, no doubt no longer with us sadly. Unless he’s in the Guinness Book of Records 😄👍🏼

You know I've just read Paul Fosbery's comment and he seems to have cracked it, as you get older don't give up riding just ride more suitable machines. I already have a nice light 250 in the shed that I'm hoping I will be able to manage when the time comes or the body gives out! I started riding over 42 years ago and I've never been without a bike. As you mentioned most riders unfortunately have the decision about riding made for them in one way or another. I have often told folks that my bikes so far have got bigger as I get older so that if needed I could speed head first into a rockface to end it all quickly if that were needed. Grim I know but don't they say many a true word said in jest, or something like that. To be honest I don't think I'd have the bottle and also I'd hate to damage one of my bikes. All the best and ride as long as you can.

This reminded me of a story, some old car collector, I knew, told me. He bought a Vaz 2101 from someone, who voluntarily gave up his license and then sold his car. That guy had never had any accidents or anything, but when he was well over 90, can't remember the exact age. One day he decided, that he is just too old to drive and went to the Transport administration and handed them his license. Considering, that people that age, need to renew their medical certificate every couple of years, he was doing really well. I doubt I'll even see numbers like that on my birthday cake, unless I turn them upside down :P

I have a few mates that have been riding 50+ years and still ride well but for most of them i think the time will come when they physically cant get on a bike. i think i will be the same when i reach that point luckily i still have alot of ride years left well i hope. the feeling you get when you're riding is like nothing else, and because you are forced to focus on what you're doing because none of us want to end up dead all our problems, thoughts just fade away with every kilometer of road.
