They're both sport touring tyres. I know it's not ideal or recommended. The only issue would be if they have very different profiles as that would affect stability and cornering. But I don't think that's an issue with this particular combo. How have you found it? You need to reduce usage on your front. Try doing more wheelies? 🤣🤣 I've usually worn my tyres at a similar rate so change them both. Over the period of distance / time that I use them, it doesn't make too much difference. I'm going to guess that a mismatched set is better than a matched set where one of the tyres is badly worn.
@MRTPR2 ай бұрын
Hello Mate, the tyres are handling extremely well . I am really looking forward to getting the new rear tyre. I am surprised at how nice the front tyre feels. I wish my tyres wore at the same rate, no such luck. 😎

If I was in a pinch out on the road then I would get what I can get. The only rule I really live by is - Never mix radial with bias ply.

Alot of people run different Tyre's cause the back wears faster than front & eventually end up on the same Tyre once worn out tread. It's a money thing good Tyre's ain't cheap & if need 1 new Tyre get a top quality brand & get same brand when other Tyre wears out.Once on same brand you like you're set. I

Interesting topic. I've never worn out a motorcycle tyre - usually they time expire!! Or I change the bike. Our roads here in the UK are generally so worn out it's a real challenge keeping the bike on track no matter what tyres you have. We also get a fair amount of rain here as you may know (your soft accent would indicate you're not a born Australian?). I did once run an Avon roadrunner on the front of my 650 BSA and an Avon SM on the rear and noticed no difference from the original pairing. But this was 40 years ago and tyres are vastly different now. Personally I think you are right not to chuck money away unnecessarily and if it feels right for you it most probably is. Cheers for an interesting video. I like it 👍

Thank you Mate for the comment and kind words. I was born here in Australia, but in South Australia, the other states seem to have more of the true Aussie accent 😎. My tyres only last 10-12 thousands KM'S . It may because of the bike with the high horsepower and torque figures. The roads here are fairly average as well. I have found the current mismatched combination working very well at the moment. I appreciate your input, ride safe and keep well. 😎

Tires don't wear at the same pace, they don't keep making the same tires forever, so sooner or later you will need to have different tires. I've had tires from different manufacturers on too. How many of us ride at the level of grip limit, where the difference of tires would start to matter?
@MRTPR3 ай бұрын
Excellent comment mate, I agree, although I ride well, i certainly am nowhere near the level where I will stretch the tyre to the limits of its grip. 😎

I've run mismatched tyres before and never had a problem. It's often an emergency that prompts the situation. I always wonder if there was an incident or accident, your insurance company would sight mismatched tyres as a contributing factor?? I've certainly got different brands of tyre on my van.

Great point, I have never thought about that, they are both legal with plenty of tread but would an insurance company honour a claim. Not sure 🤔, I hope so.

Hello Mate, i agree. Matching tyres is always best practice, but I couldn't bring myself to throwing away such a good tyre. I was guided by the tyre man who assured me that they would work well together. The bike has handled incredibly well since the new one was fitted. I would also change the rear straight away if there were any issues or it felt unsafe. I've always kept my tyres in pairs, though I will change one at a time. I'd be concerned about them gripping differently or having different tyre profiles. I know that when I switched from Dunlop to Michelin my "chicken strips" were completely different. I put that down to the Michelins being a different shape. Each to their own though. It'll be interesting to hear how you get on over time.
@MRTPR3 ай бұрын
Thank you Mate great points, interesting enough the bike is handling better, I haven't had any slips of any sort to date. I am really looking forward to getting the matching one on the back though, as this is what I am used to, With so much meat on the rear tyre I just couldn't bring myself to throwing away such a good tyre. If it had handled poorly though I would have changed it straight away and will do so if there are any issues. Thank you for your input as always. Stay safe and well. 😎

@@MRTPR I hate throwing away a tyre that has thousands of miles of life in it. I want to switch from the standard tyres on my CB500X but the front has a good 4.5mm left to the rear's 2mm. I've bought a like for like replacement for the back and will swap it soon.
@cloudmaker3 ай бұрын
Hello nice to see you out and about with a new video. My main bike has had several tyre changes and my basic system is replace rear, then next time both front and rear. Most of my riding does not involve hard cornering but longer miles. I have run mis-matched tyres on other bikes and have never had a problem and as long as the specifications are similar on both tyres I can not see how there could be. Of course here in the UK we don't usually have the extreme temperatures that you have in Australia and the only thing that may be a problem is the heating up of the different manufacturers compounds, giving a slightly differing grip, but even that should not be a problem for normal road riding. You are correct in the fact that Michelin seems to give more miles for most of their tyre ranges but the downside, over here at least is the premium cost of them when new. My brand for the last few years has been Bridgestone as they are not too expensive give good mileage and performance in all weathers, which is important for me as I am an all weather rider. All the best and ride safe and happy.

Hello Mate, I always love your comments. I have haven't been out as much of late as I spent 5 week in Europe with my beloved, (she is and Aussie Latvian). Travelling for work, my dad passed unexpectedly 😒 and then ill myself. Hopefully things will return to some sort of normality. Oh yes I have a new computer with a new editing program. Just learning it. You have made so very good points. Over here the Michelin and Bridgestone have become very similarly priced, another contributing factor the change. Stay well Mate.

@@MRTPR Sorry to hear your Dad passed unexpectedly, my Dad also went unexpectedly on the 7th of May. He was a well loved man which was reflected in standing room only in our local church. I still need to produce a video in his honour but so far have not done it justice. The wife and I went away for a mini break a few weeks back to Lancashire and met a lady in the hotel that knew him well. Another of life's coincidences when you talk to total strangers. Oh and also met an old gentleman in the Lake District who had lived up in that area all his life and when I told him I used to go to work on a farm crossing the tightest bend on an English railway line he immediately named the bend (Gotham Curve) and then several of the landmarks along it's route, even though he'd never been there, but his daughter had and she'd given him all the details of her travels. I love these coincidental meetings. All the best.
