@@stpidstuff Sorry - I didn't hear Jonathan say they were safer. When did he say that? He would know better than I would. The reason I mentioned apples and oranges is that there are differences in the way that cluster balloons, hot air balloons and gas balloons are flown - They all have their own idiosyncrasies. I'm basing that partly on things that I learned from a talk he gave on the history of lighter-than-air flight about 15 years ago, so I'm surprised to hear he made that kind of absolute statement.

Sent here by Imgur today. Understand that on *Earth* helium is a limited resource and our yearly refresh from the Sun is net negative. Once released into the atmosphere it literally floats away into space. We really need the stuff for MRI machines and similar science and using what little we have for personal entertainment needs some ethical introspection.

Man...you are so great. My mind was just blown away. Loved this video. And it's really horrifying to imagine controlling all the things by yourself but it's also beautiful from up there.♥

He is nothing compared to the man that did it with a lawn chair and used a shotgun to controll his ascent and decent. That man was a true hero not this rambling rich guy that had to pay someone else to make 100 percent of it for him.

His name was Larry Walters. The flight was in 1982. He used a pellet pistol, which he dropped mid-flight. HE is the pioneer. A simple truck driver, Larry lived his dream. He asked for permission or help from no one..,.he just did it. All who have followed are imitators. Hero is right!

@@Robnord1 oh yeah a bb or pellet gun thats right i was thinking a shotgun would've been a little chancy. I heard of him doing it in the 90's i dont remember if i heard anything else after that. It's always been in my mind through the years.

@@Freeknickers24 Wiki has a good article about the numerous cluster balloon flights on it's page about Larry. Many of these guys thought about it for years first. Who knows? You could be the next.🎈
