All these long running mysteries stew in your head for a while, and when they finally get developed, there's nothing else quite like that. Binging the story can be great, but I imagine there's gonna be a huge difference years down the line between people who get to fully binge through the story, and those who've been reading weekly for a while and experiencing all the revelations from the final saga in real time.

Ive been a weekly reader for 18 years now and honestly, you learn to take it all in stride. The best part of being a Manga reader is that you live constantly in the moment and you never know whats going to happen next. For a lot of newer readers there are a lot of inevitabilities that get taken for granted. Sunny being their ship or the death of Ace are well known factors but the latter was a real shock at the time to pretty much everyone
@UltraBlue164 Жыл бұрын
18 years… oh man is that like skypiea? Or even earlier
@unthusiasm4541 Жыл бұрын
@@UltraBlue164 Water 7, but like with this sort of time with the series you definitely develop a different perspective. You have to live with the series week to week to really understand what the audience felt at the time and how attitudes on certain characters and arcs have changed over time. Thriller Bark was hated at the time because it followed up the literal best saga in the series but now isn't hated nearly as much when the reader can experience it at a brisker pace. Dressrosa was a grueling 3 years where we were up the mountain, down the mountain and back up the mountain but now is considered top tier. As an older reader I definitely have differing feelings towards a lot of arcs and characters than newer fans have and expectations are definitely skewed by the popularity the series has on KZbin now. The funny thing is to watch the same the same things happen with the fandom. The mixed feelings and "asspull" talk around Gear 5 happened the exact same way about Gear 2 at the time and newer fans just accept it as something that was always there.

You're right, i only started watching OP in late July 2023, binged the fuck out of it eventho i was hating on it for years, watched the first 500 eps in like 2months/ month and a half and i honestly didn't care that much when merry was replaced, eventho everyone told me that it's like the top 3 saddest moments in OP... (deep down I've always known that their ship is gonna have to be replaced at some point, especially after Skypiea) i just couldn't get attached to the merry in 1 month (while in reality it spent 10 years with the strawhats, so being a weekly since the beginning is way better than just starting near the end) Same goes for Ace's & WB death being spoiled for me, but impel down & marineford were still great arcs and storytelling

Honestly, one of the biggest reasons I feel that one piece is one of, if not the greatest story told is we're all able to come up with our own theories and share them. None of us know if we're right or not till it finally happens. There isn't another series like this as there's still so much that is shrouded in mystery to learn. Sure we're in the final saga, but it feels like we've only caught the wind in our sails. I look forward to the next several years of following along with those who follow the series. Along with the future theories that everyone comes up with.

Great video, I definitely cannot stop thinking about these mysteries either. You did lose me at the end with Dragon though. He is the leader of a very important organization and he has a very specific goal, him personally taking action over something could risk everything he has worked so hard towards.Another thing tho it's Alabasta not Arabasta. Translations have trouble with r/l. Like Eneru/Raftel/Levely all being mistranslations etc

My strategy is the cold-turkey-until-thanksgiving-arrives strategy. I realized One Piece was just taking up too much of my brain... but whenever an arc wraps up in either manga or anime, I get to binge it and catch up on theories. It's a ptolemaic armillary sphere, which is meant to show the movement of celestial bodies across the sky from the perspective of earth. A planetarium for example is one big ptolemaic armillary sphere. Those aren't meant to be moons, they're planets in the One Piece solar system. Still cool! But not what people are assuming.
