actually incorrect. microsoft owning a mod means they can make a trailer for "modded minecraft" that uses your mod without your permission or knowledge. and its also wrong to say that microsoft (or any company) owns the mods made for the game, in much the same way it would be wrong to say epic owns all games made with unreal. if microsoft owned every mod for minecraft automatically just by it being a mod for minecraft, then the argument could be made that any random tool maker owns everything made with their tool. you hammer a nail in to your new handmade chair, and the maker of that hammer can claim they own the chair. this is something I would recommend watching louis rossmann to learn more about.

Nah, they actually own mods you create for their game, it's written plain as day. Whether or not they act on it is another thing, but they do write in the fine print that your work for things like mods and etc is property of Microsoft. Ok, I did a little research on the controversy, and here is a little more context. Regarding the whole EULA thing, what happened was that when danger was originally going to update orespawn to 1.8, he wanted to monitize the mod and make it so there were multiple "versions" like a regular mod version and a Premium mod version that had features like Mobzilla and other bosses/items behind a PAYWALL. The "problem" that danger was so pissed about was that the Microsoft EULA prevents people from selling/monetizing a mod/mods they make for minecraft. Though if he really needed money, he could have just made merchandise OF the mod like T-shirts, ect., and that would have been perfectly fine. Then he moved orespawn over to his third-party minecraft game danger zone where it would sit for years. When the popularity spike hit minecraft in 2019, with tons of people asking him to update orespawn, he finally caved and said he would work to update the mod to 1.12. The reason danger gave for the go-fund-me was to help pay modders that would assist him with updating the mod as orespawn is a really big mod. Well, it turns out that the money from the go-fund-me was used to try and MAKE a VR PORT OF DANGER ZONE INSTEAD OF PAYING MODDERS to help update ORESPAWN. Because of this and one of the modders leaking a prototype build of the orespawn update, the modders and danger stared to conflicting with each other on discord, and the whole discord fiasco happened. Afterward, all the modders who helped with orespawn left. This is probably what pushed danger over the edge as ANYONE who tried to make a mod that replicated orespawn or a mod that was just INSPIRED BY ORESPAWN was given heavy harassment by danger as he would try to force them to take-down their mods, a prime example being insanity craft. He would send them cease and desists in the mail and threaten legal actions and lawsuits over "stolen" assets that he did not own in the first place. Comment contined in replies 👇

Anyway, what the comment did say was that one of the devs that danger had working on the 1.12 port of orespawn when he left, took all the models and progress he made, and turned it into a orespawn successor called CHAOS AWAKENS. It's mc version is for 1.16, and he is currently remaking all the stuff that was in orespawn with updated textures and models.

I find this all the more ironic because OreSpawn had stolen an asset before. The TLDR about it was that they had taken the Praetorian Model from the Alien vs Predator mod, modified it slightly, and used it as a model for the Nightmare. It wasn't until the modeler of the mod got really pissed off that Danger backed off.

While a much smaller bit of drama, there was a time when Danger (or whoever was working for him) threatened to sue MCArchive for both hosting old builds of the mod and having source code for the private developer build that was leaked on their own server. Nothing ever came of it, but it is something you wouldn't really believe unless you were there. MCArchive still hosts OreSpawn for anyone who wants it. And many other old mods that are awesome!

Thankfully it’s not too hard to get your hands on the most up to date version of the 1.7.10 version of the mod (the last version the mod was in before it was being ported to 1.12.2 which I would not recommend you use) And even though one of the dimensions still runs at like 2.5 frames per second…I still enjoy using this mod to this day and it still hurts seeing how it met its downfall.

Damn this realy shows some of the corruptedness of the older minecraft community, no wonder it declined in popularity (before its 2019-2020 revival) when some of the old modders were doing things like adding girlfriends who could be "shut up" with diamonds to the game💀 2. Just wanted to let everyone know that an updated version of orespawn IS in the works as well as the old version still being playable! They have a server called chaos awakens that aims to recreate the mod as well as their own spin on it. Its currently not finished so some features are missing, but its worth taking a look into as its animations/textures are really refreshing and they are really in touch with their community. You should be able to find the link to it in cursedforge where you can download the newer mod.

3:32 The closest I can think in terms of "Microsoft or Mojang using/stealing modded content" is for when they posted the "Java&Bedrock Edition" trailer (owning Java means you own Bedrock and vice-versa).; In the video, when showcasing Java edition, the first blurb is "Supports user-created skins and mods!" followed by showing the Create mod, a village structure mod (I cannot tell you which, my best guess is Towns&Towers), and then Comforts (the lean-to) in that order. I'm sure now there's more examples of things where Microsoft/Mojang allow in content on the Marketplace made by people be except that one fake Aether on Bedrock Edition that got past people, despite having no actual approval by the Aether Team or KingBDogz, anything else you'd have to comb through current marketplace content to find which I'll save my wallet the torture of.

OreSpawn is one of those mods that I call "made for youtube". They are typically conglomerates of features that are in no way consistent or have anything in common, just a potluck of whatever "fun" ideas dev had in the moment. I put "fun" in quotes because while such nothing-soups are fun to showcase in a 10-15 mins videos, they are extremely boring to actually play with. Like, ok, you have those 20+ "new" armors (that are just palette-swapped vanilla). What do you need them for, exactly? If they are better than diamond \ netherite - they will make you OP and the game boring, if they aren't better - you won't bother crafting\enchanting them. Same goes for mobs - if they don't feel like they belong in the world of minecraft, you'll fight them once to record a cool vid and forget about them, etc. There are reasons people miss Thaumcraft so much. That was one hell of a mod, with it's own story, rich and engaging mechanics, the joy of discovering new things and well, occasionally blowing your base up. OreSpawn won't be missed by anyone because there's literally nothing special about it.

This is the worst activity that people of all politics, cultures, fandoms, ages, etc support. Purposefully taking down meaningful historic software and mods because "its the creators wishes". Even if this the most heinous and disgusting criminal on the planet made a nostalgic mod from our childhood's, it better for the world to have their old mod still accessible to everybody, (as well as get used in the original media and works of other users!!) then for the creator to take down their dying ship with them. This is not a privacy issue, or a "s**** assault-level consent issue". This is an internet archival issue. Nothing should be ever be forgotten or lostmedia; nothing at all.

Honestly, I had the feeling of unease when playing Orespawn, I always found it kinda ugly and I mostly played it as I was a fan of the youtuber duo in AlanticCraft back when it was Joebuz and CodyMaverick, as I honestly was more there awaiting for them to reupdate their Divine RPG mod pack as that mod was one I loved a lot more before it just disappeared. back in the 1.6.4 days, maybe early 1.7.10 but unlike Orespawn I never hear anyone talking about whatever happened to it.

I don't like talking politics, mainly online as most people take it way too far, on every side. Not only is it rarely an actual conversation, but it's also inarguable. It's usually a waste of time talking about it and it just becomes depressing over time.

I personally use the internet as an escape, something away from all my problems, which to my knowledge, is very common. It's that bringing real life problems onto the internet I have a problem with. I understand that sounds selfish, and it is, but I think it's reasonable enough to understand. I'm not here to vent about my problems to attempt to disprove how privileged I am, as I definitely don't have it as bad as some may, and I'm very grateful for it. If I was born at any other time, I'd be dead. I recommend using a different word when talking to a stranger on the internet you know little about. Other than that though, you're not wrong.
