I bought a triplex (three unit house) at 18 years old because my parents taught me how to use my money wisely. I rent out two units and live in the other one for free. I’m living for free and making a decent profit, which has set up an amazing foundation for my future. I recommend to everyone who has a large chunk of money just sitting, to start investing in real estate. If I can do it while in high school, you can too!

My mom didn’t ever give me a monthly allowance either and I won’t with my kids either when I’m older. Like you said kids shouldn’t get money just for waking up. The one thing I did get though was an allowance for my dads work. He had become the boss at his work and once he did he really wanted to clean a lot. So we cleaned up a lot and I got money. But it was pretty good work and we were working from 1-2 hours so

Are student loans actually that hard to pay off in America? I’m starting University in September, I live in London, and we pay £9,250 for tuition each year. Some people pay more depending on how much their maintenance loan is (usually between £3000 and £5000). From what I’ve heard, we only pay a percentage of our wage after graduating. So if you earn over £28,000 a year, that’s only when you start paying your loan back, and I think it’s only 9% of your salary. It does increase when your wage increases but it’s still manageable. We have 30 years to pay off the loan, and after that, the remainder that hasn’t been paid gets written off…
